Scared Of A Colonoscopy

Hello.

 

My health team has still not diagnosed me after being sick for over 4 months.  It has been recommended that I get a colonoscopy.  I am really nervous.  Will it tell me for sure if I have Crohn's disease or diverticulitis?  How painful is it?  What are the risks?  How bad is it really?  I am not looking forward to this.

Maybe ask the doctor these questions? I know it won't diagnose Celiac Disease.

I have had three colonoscopies. As Karen said, they can not diagnose (or rule out) celiac disease. The worst part is the preparation. The procedure itself is painless, and while nothing is completely risk free (including crossing the street), the risk associated with a colonoscopy or endoscopy is very low.

If you are having a colonoscopy, having an endoscopy with biopsies at the same time is a good idea. The prep for the endoscopy is a subset of that for the colonoscopy, so you are already there. An endoscopic examination of the upper intestine may detect celiac disease, or may reveal other causes for your symptoms.

      Thank you.. Christina My anxiety is through the roof. I think it was from eggs. I really don't know because my eyes feel sore. Like I'm allergic to them. I was defient in B12. My heart is pounding and it won't stop. Not sure what to do. I don't have much support other than this forum. Colleen

      Thanks rmj when I first rang up it was we can't do it without , but I talked to a lovely lady and she sorted it all out for me, so it pays to be persistent , I would have had to decline if I hadn't been given the water option too , so yes I'm glad too 😌

      Had my MRI today I didn't have to have the manitol with my allergy's , I just had a litre of water , they were great with my concerns , so let's see if anything comes of if will keep posted once I have results 👍

      Coeliac and Thyroid?

      Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.
