Can't Stop Losing Weight :( Please Help

I started a gluten free diet in January and am now finally at the point where I don't keep accidentally eating gluten. I haven't had an accidental glutening in almost 2 months now which is the longest time span without an accidental glutening since January. I cut out all processed food and try to eat a lot of healthy fats and proteins to keep the weight on but it's not working. I was already under weight before the gluten free diet and now I keep losing more weight. I'm starting to look sickly/skeletal and anorexic looking, and I don't know what to do to keep the weight on :(

When I eat too much fat it's almost as if my body is like "well I'm just not going to digest all this fat, sorry" and it doesn't do anything except potentially give me upset stomach. I recently found out I can't eat potatoes or brown rice either because it aggravates my leaky gut and makes me sick.
Am I doing something wrong? I can't keep losing weight like this. I look horrible.

Please help.

I'm so sorry to hear about your struggle. I would consult a doctor about this issue. I know that people with celiac disease/gluten sensitivity have a tendency to be malnourished and therefore lose weight very quickly. However, after being on a strict gluten free diet it should be less of an issue for you. I would recommend starting to take a multi-vitamin because it could just be you're not getting enough nutrients from the food you're eating. Also, keeping a food journal tracking everything I ate really helped me. Keep count of the calories you're taking in and maybe even get an app on your smartphone. I know I have one on mine called MyPlate and it is keeping track of my food and helping me maintain my weight, but there is also a setting where it tells you how much you need to eat to gain weight! That might help you out a lot. I hope you reach the weight you want and start feeling better!

I felt like this too a couple of years ago.  I was worried that I would keep losing weight.  What happened was that I got to the low limit of what was considered normal BMI and then I stopped losing.  I even put on a little a year or so later.  Have you looked at your BMI?  It may be that your perception of what you should look like is unrealistic for a processed food free diet.  The low end of the BMI scale is much smaller than your average American.  Open Original Shared Link  Maybe you could stop worrying?

Thanks for the helpful reply :) I'm going to see a doctor soon at a free clinic (since I have no health insurance). I got the app and am going to try using that to track calories. That's a really good idea!  I don't take a multi vitamin, but I take several supplements of stuff that I know I'm deficient in. I'll try taking a multi, maybe I'm deficient in something I don't know about.

That's a very helpful website. It says I'm right on the low cusp of the healthy weight range for my height, so if I lose any more weight I will be considered underweight. I really hope I stop losing. Thank you for the help :) I feel a bit better now.

I wonder how many doctors are aware of this site and would or should recommend it to their patients?

I just got my test results after a less than 2-week gluten challenge consuming about 5 g of gluten per day on average.  Anti tTG-IgA: <0.2 AU/ml (<8 is negative) IgA: 180 mg/dl (Reference range is 70-400) I previously had been on a gluten-free diet for around 3 years or so, with occasional cheating and not being strict about cross-contamination. I am however still suffering from the effects of the gluten challenge (food sensitivities, slight brain fog, weird stool, fatigue, swollen thyroid, bodyaches). Is this likely to be NCGS rather than celiac disease given the test results and my history? Note: I have one copy of HLA-DQ8.

How long have you been strictly gluten free? Certainly, it would be good to look into vitamin and mineral deficiencies and supplementation. The B vitamins, magnesium and D3 are all very important to neurological health. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to reverse gluten-induced neurological damage damage if it has gone on for a long time.

Thanks Trents I'm strict with my gluten-free diet now. I just don't feel any better. I'm going to get tested for vitamins and minerals to see if I need some supplements. For sure I got some damage that doctors call Menier's and the only way they treat it is with medicine that does damage my body more than it helps.

Thank you Scott for your helpful response! Based on this, would you say someone who is on a gluten-free diet - but not strict about cross-contamination and occasional cheating - and tests negative for tTg-IgA while having normal total IgA is not likely to have celiac, even if they have been 'gluten-free' for years?
