Almost died from my appendix bursting and being diagnosed with flu for five days, is there anyone out there that has had Celiacs with the same problem ? This (appendix burst ) happened in 08 just diagnosed with celiac three weeks ago. Also, is anyone with celiac experiencing a lot of joint pain. I have been in a lot of pain lately and seems to be getting worse .

Hi Kathy and Welcome to the Forum.

I had the same with my appendix many many years ago but I have not seen definitive information about the two being connected.  Joint pain is common with un-diagnosed Celiac.  Read the Newbie 101 thread on the Coping Section.  If will provide needed information to start your new Life being Gluten Free and ask any question you need to.

Be Well,

I also had my appendix out a few years ago. After being told there was nothing wrong with me. And I am just a newbie Dx'd Celiac , My joints are killin me! I always thought because I have had so many broken bones but seems it isn't just that.  And Love the Newbie Thread! Good luck!

My appendix ruptured when I was 14 after just a few days of excruciating pain, it was a miracle it was diagnosed correctly because I did not have a high white blood cell count among other things.  A friend of my Dad's was passing by the ER and referred me to a Dr at the hospital in town.  Otherwise they were going to send me home with meds for gas pain...   I had not heard of this connection before.  I found out about being Celiac 5 1/2 years ago.  My major symptom was and still is joint pain.  I can tell within 20 to 30 minutes of eating gluten because of pain in elbows, knees, fingers, etc in the soft tissue and joint, feels like my tendons tighten up... hard to describe.  Other symptoms follow hours later, can last a day or two.  I am pretty careful but have ended up really ill a handful of times since diagnosis.

I've never had appendix problems (thank goodness - ouch!) but I have had joint pain since my 20's. Arthralgias are a fairly common symptom of celiac disease. They can take months to a few years to improve. It took a good 6 month gluten-free for mine to start to improve.

Best wishes.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
