Making Bread Without A Bread Machine

Has anyone made a loaf of gluten-free bread using one of the mixes available the "old fashioned" way with out using a bread machine? I would like to try this but don't know about any adaptations I would need to make of if it is even possible.

Thanks. Sue

Page 68 of The Gluten Free Gourmet by Bette Hagman explains how to modify recipes to work with out a bread machine, but if your gonna be making bread a machine is much less work, and you can do a delay start so that you dump all teh indgredients in to the machine in the AM and have fresh hot bread when you get home from work. :D I can look it up when I get home if you dont have the book.

PLus there are alot of recipies on this section of the board that dont use a breadmachine. LIke:

Just and an FYI this is the breadmachine I have and it works great, fiarly cheap as these machines go too..

I make gluten-free bread without a breadmaker. I have used mixes and also some of Bette Hagman's recipes. The dough is more like quick bread dough rather than traditional wheat bread dough. I find it quite easy to bake from scratch.

I don't have a bread machine so I make my bread in the oven. The mix I like best is Breads From Anna: Open Original Shared Link. Simply amazing. Texture just like gluten wholewheat bread! :)

Oh boy, cornbread, how do you make the Manna from Anna w/o a bread machine?? I tried just using a heavy-duty electric mixer, and it was still such a mess! Now I have a bread machine, and it's a much neater process. Of course, I'm no expert in the kitchen... :P

I'm right with you on Anna's being the BEST bread ever! Just made myself a cheese sandwich with some for lunch!

Thanks all. I'm going to brave the Manna from Anna w/o bread machine and see what happens.

Oh the pre-made mixes are easy. You'll be fine as long as you can follow simple directions :D

Thanks for posting this bread machine link. Just last night I decided that I'd get one for Christmas but hadn't researched prices so I thought I'd have to lay out $200 for a decent one. Now it looks like Santa can bring me more than an appliance. Hooray!!

To be fair, I dunno what makes the $200 ones worth $200, but all I know is mine works very well, no complaints. :)

I have not tired the "express bake -58min" mode yet, and probably wont since it says "makes the curst hard and dark" and I do not think I like that. The "basic" mode is all I use. Works with all the gluten-free recipes so far.

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
