Green Drink Free Of Wheat Or Barley

I would love to purchase a "green drink" powdered drink mix. I have some health issues where I can't eat a large volume of foods at once, so it is difficult to fit in enough fruits and veggies.

 

I see they ALL have at either wheat grass or barley and many tout a "gluten free" label. I have a wheat intolerance so it doesn't matter the wheat grass is processed prior to gluten being present -- plus I don't trust any company that much. I can't believe I haven't found a single drink mix without grain products in it -- what an untapped market!

 

Does anyone know of one free of plants we tend to avoid? I

Many people say they are gluten free but i've been sick too many times to believe that.  Its too easy for the protein molecules to transmutate to the grass. SO, what you might like the best is to forgo the powdered mix and take the time to make it yourself. get a vitamix or omega  or juiceman juicer and buy your greens at the local farmers market. Its AN AMAZING difference!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I don't have the finances or energy (disabled) to go the juicing route. I wish I could because I know I'd get so many more nutrients than I would with a green drink. I find it so surprising there are no green drinks out there simply made of fruits, vegetables, and maybe some sea algea!

I agree, with luck eventually you can do it yourself or get a friend to help you do it. the difference is really worth it

It takes less than 5 min start to finish to make my nutriblast. I use 50% spinach, 50% fruit, and add chia seeds, fill to the line with purified water and blend for 1 min and your done. It would be cheaper in the long run then buying green powderered drinks and takes the same amount of time to make

i have one of those, too, i loooooooooove it.  it's also great for making your own salad dressings and chip dip.  that thing will puree anything.  i wish i had one just to play with and see what it will chop up before it breaks (omgosh.  i think my husband is rubbing off on me...........)  all dishwasher safe, which is great  :)  great suggestion, lori!

I am going to make salad dressing very soon! I even have my hubby and kids drinking their greens, and that says a lot :-p

woot!  i'm thinking of getting a new one, so i can break the old one - that is terrible, i know.  the worst part is, if i suggest it to the hubs, he will jump right on board and we will be wrecking stuff lolz we are a pair of mess........

 

yeah, i just peel a shallot, onion, garlic, whatever and that thing makes it drinkable - i'm thinking of making spinach & bacon dip (probly use sour cream/mayo or yogurt)  a little garlic powder salt & pepper - 10 seconds laterrrrrrr  :)  love it  :)

We have a version of the Nutribullet - it's GE and says Walmart on the bottom. Works great for smoothies. Can't really juice with it.

It doesn't juice it's an extractor which is much healthier than juicing because you get the pulp, skin , etc of the fruits and veggies

Kid seems to have burned out the motor on his little smoothie maker. A rubber gasket wasn't pushed in correctly and tangled around the blades.

Can you make frozen smoothie drinks with the Nutribullet? He likes to put frozen fruit, juice and protein powder and take it to school to have after his first class ( weight lifting). What size are the containers?

      Try adding some Thiamine Hydrochloride (thiamine HCl) and see if there's any difference.  Thiamine HCl uses special thiamine transporters to get inside cells.  I take it myself.   Tryptophan will help heal the intestines.  Tryptophan is that amino acid in turkey that makes you sleepy after Thanksgiving dinner.  I take mine with magnesium before bedtime.

      I live in the upper mid-west and was just diagnosed with marsh 3c celiac less than a month ago.  As a 51 year old male, I now take a couple of different gluten free vitamins.  I have not noticed any reaction to either of these items.  Both were purchased from Amazon. 1.  Nature Made Multivitamin For Him with No Iron 2.  Gade Nutrition Organic Quercetin with Bromelain Vitamin C and Zinc Between those two, I am ingesting 2000 IU of vitamin D per day.       I am doing a gluten challenge right now and I bought vital wheat gluten so I can know exactly how much gluten I am getting. One tablespoon is 7g so 1½ tablespoons of Vital Wheat Gluten per day will get you to 10g You could add it to bean burgers as a binder or add to hot chocolate or apple sauce and stir.

      Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

      @catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.
