Kerri, I am from south Union County (need northern Central NJ) and find that there's nothing available. We are planning our 25th Wedding Anniv. party and two big catering places turned us down when I asked if they could provide a gluten-free meal for my husband, the man with the 25th Wedding Anniv. I finally found a place that can do a buffet for everyone but him. He'll get his own baked plain chicken w/plain mashed potatoes. The party is in July so hopefully they will come thru as they promised.

We used to go to a diner each weekend but that's has stopped when he got the celiac disease diagnosis. I spoke with the owner and he's not too eager to get involved. He never heard of celiac disease; we might try a fish restaurant in Cranford as they seemed interested in serving the meal properly (Marino's). My husband isn't anxious to go out to restaurants as yet, he's newly diagnosed and scared that they'll make a mistake.

Some people in this forum say that Outback Steakhouse is celiac disease friendly. So you might want to go out to the highway (Route #22) and check them out.

Where are you in Central NJ? Do you go to a support meeting? We'd like to go but it's too far (Dover -Morris County or New Brunswick). It's not that it's far, but the back up on Rts. 280, 10 & 46 for Dover and Rt. 18 area for New Brunswick is terrible when you are traveling from my place. The traffic, as you know, takes up the travel time.

Thank you so much. I am sorry that your husband hasn't been able to find any places to eager to help him. I am in Old Bridge Township. So I'm about 30 minutes from New Brunswick. I would like to go to the support meetings but like you the commute is horrible!! I guess I will try the Outback and see. We go out to dinner usually once or twice a week. I know I will not be going out that much anymore but it is nice to know that there is somewhere I CAN go. Thanks for the info!

Hi! I'm originally from Union but now live out in Somerville. My son has celiac disease. We eat out pretty often. Houlihan's is always great. He gets a cheeseburger no bun of course & instead of the french fries they give him corn chips & tomato slices. He loves it! We've been pretty lucky usually when we eat out & explain what he needs, the waiter/waitresses are very helpful. I find it's best to go at off times when the restaurant isn't so busy. Then the wait staff can focus more attention on our special needs! Good Luck!

A little further south in Mercer county, there is a PF Chang's near Princeton and an Uno in Hamilton, both of which are chains with gluten-free menus. Otherwise not much. The Blue Bottle Inn in Hopewell marks their menu items when they are gluten-free and they know what it means. Brothers Moon in Hopewell usually has some things that are or can be gluten-free. As for shopping, there is DeLiteful Food on Quakerbridge road with all kinds of foods for special diets (gluten-free, Weight Watchers, diabetic) and a Whole Foods, Wegman's, and Trader Joe's on Rt. 1 near Princeton. And a Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Ewing!

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
