Birth Control

I know this question has probably been asked before or something similar to it, but are there any birth controls out there that are free of gluten/wheat, milk, and soy? I previously used some that had milk in them but I have a problem with milk and they just made me really sick feeling. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

My daughter is lactose intolerant. Instead of changing birth control after being diagnosed with lactose intolerance, she is simply careful to remember to take her lactaid pills every morning before any food or prescription pills. It prevents her symptoms. This may be an option for you if your concerns are lactose and not casein.

Unforunately, it seems mine is more of the casein rather than the lactose part of the milk. So, it is making things much more difficult. :/ I wish it was as easy as the lactaid pill haha.

Are you experiencing allergic reactions when you take the pill? I think they may use lactose as a binder and not casein (protein). You may just be reacting to the hormones which can make you nauseous, etc. Just something to consider.

When I took the pill it the symptoms that I had were like a gluten reaction, I lost weight on the pill, felt sick to my stomach (which like you said could just be the hormones themselves), and I can't remember what else exactly. It has been a while since I've tried it again. I've been afraid to try it because of what happened.

I tried them years ago. They made me nauseous. Fortunately, I was married and it did not matter if I got pregnant, so into the trash they went. In fact, I had a hard time getting pregnant most likely due to celiac disease!

Perhaps an IUD or implanted hormones? I did fine on transdermal creams for perimenopause symptoms.

Yeah, I am afraid of all the side effects they will cause. So not looking forward to it. I may look into the other options though. It all just sounds awful haha. Thanks for the other options though.

More great tips, and a good excuse to shop at M&S and also buy more iced buns!   I wish we had an ASDA near us, as the few times we've been to one their gluten-free pasta range seemed very reasonably priced compared to other shops.  Thanks so much, @Russ H.

I hope you are on the mend soon. About 1 in 5 people who contracted chicken pox as a child go on to develop shingles in later life - it is not uncommon. There are 5 known members of the herpes virus family including chicken pox that commonly infect humans, and they all cause lifelong infections. The exact cause of viral reactivation as in the case of shingles or cold sores is not well understood, but stress, sunburn and radiotherapy treatment are known triggers. Some of the herpes viruses are implicated in triggering autoimmune diseases: Epstein-Barr virus is suspected of triggering multiple sclerosis and lupus, and there is a case where it is suspected of triggering coeliac disease. As to whether coeliac disease can increase the likelihood of viral reactivation, there have been several cohort studies including a large one in Sweden suggesting that coeliac disease is associated with a moderate increase in the likelihood of developing shingles in people over the age of 50. US 2024 - Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients with Celiac Disease 50 Years Old and Older Sweden 2018 - Increased risk of herpes zoster in patients with coeliac disease - nationwide cohort study

BFree bread is fortified with vitamins and minerals as is ASDA own-brand gluten-free bread. All the M&S bread seems to be fortified also.
