Hi - I saw these in the frozen section last night.  They say Gluten Free on them, but no indication about cross-contamination, etc.

 

I don't generally like frozen meals, but sometimes the convenience is just too hard to pass up when I'm busy.

 

Does anyone eat these and know if they are safe?  Does Healthy choice have other Gluten Free options that are good?

We had something about this a month ago? You might want to use the advanced search function and see if you can find it. I have to run right now. Maybe check on the website for Healthy Choice? There were 4 or 5 flavors.

I guess it was Lean Cuisine. Not sure if they are made by the same company, some of them are.

I went through the reviews on the Healthy Choice website. Not one mentioned that they had celiac disease (that is how I gauge the safety of a restaurant or product). Although the ingrediants are gluten free, I would be surprised if their gluten free products are made on a separate line. Next step, call the manufacturer or you could be the guinea pig and report back your findings.

I got a couple of these a few weeks ago. Had no problems with them and will buy them again as sometimes I am just to tired to cook when I get home from work. At the same time I got a couple Jimmy Dean chicken bowls that were not marked gluten free but had no gluten ingredients. I have eaten the Jimmy Dean breakfast bowls with no problem so figured I would give those a try. That was a mistake.

Found this on thier FB page- which seems to be a quick way to get answers. They sound safe

Yes, in order for us to label them as gluten free, they must be tested. If any other meals that contain any of the top allergens are made on the same lines, there is a very thorough cleaning and validation process that takes place before the gluten free meals are made. If you have a sensitivity to gluten or have celiac disease, you can be confident you can eat these meals. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks!

Thanks for digging that up, Karen.  I think I saw a Celiac blogger post about these, I forget who it was.  But said they are decent.  I may try one, looks like a good option for if I am away from home.

It was pretty good, actually - seemed high in sodium and the portion was SMALL (only 180 calories).  Thought I'd report back.

      Gluten free Yogurt suggest

      I would not think store bought yogurt would contain gluten unless it possibly could be through an added flavoring or coloring ingredient. Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free. Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by...

      I believe the GFCO does use a common logo for certified gluten free products (those containing not more that 10ppm of gluten) but nothing universal yet from the FDA for standard gluten free products (those containing not more that 20ppm).

      I have a One Pot and decided to start using it one day. I was hesitant at first making my own yogurt, but was surprised at how easy it was. I like mine better too.

      Because I spend so much time reading every word on all food packaging, I personally would greatly appreciate it if there was one common gluten-free symbol written in large-enough text, and always located in the same place. That alone will make shopping easier and faster. I dread having to buy packaged food. Thank you very much for asking,

      I do believe that people are under so much pressure up have a sleeping pattern , with working and how households work these days , but in reality there is no wrong or right at to sleep , I believe your neighbour showed this with such a long life , I do exactly the same at night many times so I hope I live into my nineties also , I have found one thing...

Otherwise, it should be naturally gluten free.  Keep in mind that some companies are capitalizing on people's fears and ignorance (nothing personal intended) by labeling foods "gluten free" that are just that way by the nature of what they are. They are hoping to create a marketing edge over their competitors by adding "gluten free" because they know it may catch attention of those new to the celiac/gluten sensitivity experience without having to cost them anything in the way of changing their manufacturing process or doing testing.
