Yellow dye at Eye Dr

My daughter who has Celiac Disease had a serious reaction to the yellow dye the eye doctor put in her eyes. First started sneezing and then the membranes started swelling inside her eyes. We are taking her to an allergist but I am wondering if by chance they have gluten in them.  She slept the entire rest of the day but we did have to give her bendryl. Has anyone else had any reactions.

I highly doubt there would be gluten in an eye drop.  Sounds like an allergic reaction.  Even if it had gluten,  it wouldn't be a Celiac reaction if it isn't in your intestines.

Hi, the yellow dye is fluorescein and may have been combined with an anesthetic to numb the eye for a glaucoma test. None of the eye drops used in optometric offices have gluten in them.

The individual had an allergic reaction to some part of the medication used. Being celiac one area of high sensitivity is the latex that is used for the soft dropper on the fluress (yellow drops).

I have never seen anything to indicate that Celiacs have a higher rate of allergic reaction to latex.  I would love to see the research.

She baffles dr. on a regular basis. She broke out with boil looking blisters within days of riding a golf cart next to a wheat field which was later diagnosed as DH even though she had been gluten free for 2 years.  Best they could say is wheat got on her skin and her body attacked it.  Gastrologist sent us to dermatologist for treatment.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
