Hunts and Rosarita

Hey guys! So, I am Spanish, and we make a lot of Mexican food in my family. I use Rosarita vegetarian refried beans and I also use Hunts tomato sauce. I like both because I really trust Conagra, as they’ll call out all sources of gluten (including barley and rye) in their labels if anything contains them. However, they don’t label their Hunts tomato sauce or Rosarita Refried Beans “gluten free” on the can. If you go to their website they say that those ingredients shouldn’t have gluten in them but since they’re not tested for gluten they don’t label them “gluten free”.

do you guys have thoughts on this? Typically I only use products that say that they’re gluten free, because I know they have to test them in order to say that. But I think ConAgra does a great job with labeling. Sometimes my tummy is funny after I eat the beans or tomato sauce but I imagine that a huge plate of nachos with a half a can of refried beans, chips, Spanish rice, cheese, and sour cream would make even the toughest bellies a little bit “iffy” lol!

Just wanted your opinions. :)

I use both of those products.

Many companies do not want to list "gluten free" unless they test for gluten.  But why increase the cost of a product for the small percentage of people that want it to say gluten-free on it?  Also, there are laws in some countries that things that are naturally gluten-free, should not be labelled gluten-free.

I serve those items to my family.  I avoid the retried beans because I can not tolerate onions and garlic.   I usually make my retried beans from scratch, but use Rosarita’s when camping or when I go out and my family makes tacos.  Just served them last night!

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
