I recieved a personal message in my email from a new member calling him or herself 'alberto'. It is a money scam how do I report this person to 'the powers that be' (You admin folks)? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi Ravenwoodglass,

I reported it for you. Down near the bottom of this box, if you click on "report", a box will appear for you to type what it is you wish to report, then hit submit.

Have a great day!

Karen

I got one too. Just deleted it.

Makes you wonder how they got our email addresses, are they not kept private?

Canadian Karen Community Regular

Hi Frenchiemama,

If you click on anyone's name, it will bring you into their profile where there is the option to PM them or e-mail them. Some have e-mail options, others don't. If you go into your control panel, click on the left at "E-mail settings" That will bring you to "Privacy Settings". There then are two boxes, the first one giving you the option to hide your e-mail address from other members.

Hope this helps.....

I have recived the same message. It showed up in a different format here, overriding all other messages. Can Celiac.com junk mail software not cull out these items?

Andrew

Thanks Judy! It's been a rough week, you have no idea how much I needed to hear that!!! :D My complexion does seem to be a bit metallic lately though, don't ya think? :P

Sun is finally coming out up here too, after weeks of drizzle, rain, snow, the usual S.A.D. fuellers. I think I might go for a nice long, relaxing walk myself.......

Hugs!

Ew, I didn't realize that. I thought that they were private by default. Thanks for the tip.

Any one can SEND You email via the board, but they can not see your email address UNLESS you reply.

Well I just gave him my info and now there's $46 million in my checking account. Catch you all later, suckas!

No but seriously? Here's the sad thing: I opened up that PM this morning and started to read and as soon as I saw the whole "Cuba" thing I assumed that he was a legit board member who saw my Screen Name, thought I was Cuban and was trying to reach out to me as a fellow Cubano Celiac. It wasn't until I saw the part about the offshore account that I clicked on what was happening. I get three of these emails a day and I can usually tell that they're one of those scams by the time I've read the first sentence or even the subject line and I trash them immediately. But I ended up reading this one for a while and now I feel like such a dork. I was even feeling kinda bad that i'd have to tell this guy that I'm not really a Latina!

I took care of "Alberto" and banned them. Any member can send personal messages or email to other members, but they cannot see your real email address--email is just relayed to you through the board. In this case Alberto created an account and likely used a script that went through every member and sent the same message.

Take care,

Scott

Absolutely my point with Kerrigan, the owner. She stood to secure many years of faithful patronage by simply inviting us in for a pastry or lunch. Or by simply producing another $50 e-card based on trust. We would have been highly satisfied. We are limited to a few restaurants in the area, and that would have been one. It was very disappointing, esp to my wife, to realize we can't patronize the place anymore.

You would think any business would see the wisdom of honoring a $50 gift certificate on the basis of customer satisfaction alone, apart from any questions about software glitches.

So there was no physical, plastic card involved, correct?

When my wife attempted to open the online card in the store with a cashier, it would not work. We then showed the owner the link to the card, the online receipt that I got upon purchase, and even my bank statement confirming the purchase. That did not satisfy her, since she said she needed the link to open to reveal the gift ID num. They even admitted they had a systems problem around that time.
