Is Anyone Else Completely Sick Of Having To Pack A Lunch Everyday?

Always been a lunch packer. It is just easier and cheaper. The only time I go out for lunch is with clients or customers. That way it is on their's or the companies credit card, not mine.

Good for you guys- the ones who have always been lunch-bringers. I hate it! I mean, im getting used to it, but with my busy lifestyle it just adds that much more stress to not be able to grab something on my way to work or grab lunch and dinner. Actually, i really dont mind bringing food, but what really bothers me is carrying it.. I live in NYC and its SO hard to get used to one MORE bag to carry...as if im not already a bag lady!! Plus, why are all the gluten free foods less portable than regular ones? My sandwiches used to travel so well, but a salad is much harder, as is something like Amys...

I had to smile when I saw this topic :P Just the other day I was thinking (as I was making my lunch) how much time I spend planning, buying and preparing my meals. It boggles the mind what a time sink this is! I kept thinking what if I had to pack a lunch everyday? I think I might loose it! For now I am a stay at home mom so I don't need to worry about the packing. At least now I have an excuse why the house is not clean, I really don't have the time

I found some good salad containers are these disposable baking pans. I don't dispose of them, I use them to tote my salads. :) They're flat and square, a little easier to cart than something round and bowl like perhaps.

I know about the baggage, it must be horrible in NYC having to take public transport, especially if you're carting around a lot of other stuff. I end up bringing my own coffee thermos, sometimes my own soda pop, my breakfast and my lunch. I look like I take enough supplies for a week of camping. :D I swear, the food takes me about 5 minutes to pack in the morning.

I do all my cooking and stuff on the weekends. I make tons of food so I have lots and lots of left overs and don't have to cook during the week. For instance, I buy a pork shoulder roast and cook up half of it (good 5-6 pounds of meat) cut it up, freeze most of it. I just got a new little freezer for the garage to put my "extra" food in. I also make up loads of chicken breasts (marinated in something) and cut them up for my salads. Freeze and use during the week.

The diet I'm on pretty much doesn't allow anything you don't make yourself, so there's a goodly amount of work to do on the weekend, but during the week, I can still pack up my lunch and breakfast in 5 minutes and I'm out the door. When I'm feeling really virtuous... I pack it up the night ahead. (That doesn't happen often)

packing your own lunch is MUCH easier if you make sure to make enough *dinner* the night before that you can take leftovers - even if it's just part of the meal as leftovers combined with something else.

What is your secret for getting out of them? I ususally bring some gluten-free muffins and a veggie tray and just eat my own food - but I'd LOVE to just be able to avoid potlucks completely!!!

I make sure I am out of the area during lunch. For quite a few I have been off work the day of the pot luck. Lucky me. But if I am there I work through lunch, I tell them I will be there shortly.

I have done pot luck style with my family. And before I can go through the food line to eat the one item I brought, it seems someone forgets and contaminates my gluten-free contribution. So I just never participate.

Hope this helps.

I used to eat out all the time so I'm still getting used to having to make every meal and prepare lunch for the next day. It's a constant cycle of grocery shopping, freezing foods, defrosting them, cooking them, packaging them for the next day, etc. Not to mention making sure I bring enough food every day in case I have to work late or go to the gym upstairs after work. I practically have a cabinet's worth of food in my cubicle on any given day.

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
