I love love Frappuccino and blended coffee drinks. At a local coffee shop I get one that has espresso, whipped cream, caramel, white and milk chocolate. Sadly The last few times I have had it I have had horrible tummy trouble and been extremely nauseous. Is there something idk about here with Frappuccino drinks? Can I not have these anymore??

It must be extremely hard not to get cross contamination in a cafe where there are lots of drinks blended in that equipment that have cookie pieces etc. Also you have no way of knowing if the caramel etc was gluten free. Sorry you are not feeling well. I don't think it is a very sensible idea. The only places Ill have any food outside of my house are dedicated gluten free establishments.

I never thought about cross contamination and I didn’t realize caramel syrups could contain gluten ??

Barley and malt finds its way into a lot of places, and also the line that the syrup is produced on might be shared with glutinous products. Also cross contamination is a huge issue. What has been in that blender, what has been on the person producing it's hands - have they been serving cookies and cakes?

I will only go to one of two totally gluten free cafes in my city, they take good precautions and never make anything with gluten in it.

Thank you for this information. I wasn’t aware these were a risk

I’ve used tinctures and made my own edibles with gluten-free ingredients to stay safe. Dispensary staff don’t always know about gluten, so I double-check labels or just make my own.

It's great to hear that there are some good doctors out there, and this is an example of why having a formal diagnosis can definitely be helpful.

Update: I have a wonderful new gastroenterologist. She wants to be sure there’s nothing more serious, like refractory celiac, going on. She ordered various tests including some micronutrient tests that no one has ever ordered before.  I’m deficient in folate and zinc and starting supplements for both. I’m so glad I decided to go to a new GI!

Autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. Many of them are found close together on the chromosomes.

Just giving another update... I was referred to rheumatology, and they suspect that I may also be dealing with fibromyalgia (it has not been formally diagnosed, but just suggested at this point).  So, I am continuing with the anti-inflammatory diet and vitamins and still working to keep getting rid of all these hidden gluten sources, but I also do have another possible explanation for some of the issues that I'm dealing with.
