Julie,

Does that meann you can blend up your own nut milks? I have recipes.

Evie,

I'm soy intolerant so I can't eat any mainline chocolate. I've been buying enjoy life chocolate chips.

I am totally addicted to hershey's kisses. i can't get through the day without at least one.

OMG tika, the older dingo who doesn't get into things like Annie does but BENEFITS from it <_< .....she just let out a ripper, such a loud one that it scared her and she ran out of the room......am sitting here cracking up.....:lol::lol:

Lynnie get that dog's BUTT out of your face at night...sheesh, even I, the crazy old dog lady, would not put up with that.......

reading again.....

 My puppy let one rip this morning and chased his own butt looking for it. I think he was a bit shocked that something that loud came out of there.

We don't. Still would highly recommend quitting when you feel you've got your life balanced enough to tackle it.

I can't stand the thought of quitting. I feel that since I had to "give up" everything that I want, I shouldn't have to quit unless I want to. My Dr. just doesn't understand that.

Okay, koalas and Aussie men. I'm on it. I have seen more men than koalas, but I'm not complaining. Any other requests while I'm here? I'll bring back anything you want - except crocodiles. I don't like those.

*In my best Steve Irwin voice* Crikey! Look at that bloke! He's a beaut!

Actually from what I've read, smoking might have saved my life... it seems to slow the Celiac... BUT I am NOT SUGGESTING ANYONE SMOKE.... that's the worst thing you can do for your health.

Okay... don't anyone hate me for writing that.

I think I've read this too. But, now that you're gluten-free, you can quit!! :P My mom quit when she was 42 and went in for a face lift. The plastic surgeon told her he didn't give them to smokers because that's a leading cause of wrinkles. Her vanity made it so she never smoked another cigarette! She threw her pack away right in his office. My step-father went to an acupuncturist, and it worked.

Gosh, having a hard time catching up! No one posted yesterday when I was online for some time, but when I watched a movie with my hubby, you guys were posting away!!!

When we got married, Adam wanted to have our new dog sleep with us. I told him it was me or the dog. I won. ;) So, no dog butts in our bed! We had a dog with such bad, stinky flatulence when I was a kid that guests would leave when he ripped one. Maybe he was celiac.

Back to catching up!

It will get better... hey... I thought you were in charge of watching tumble weeds also?

Ok, minister of tumbleweeds! I like that :D

Susan - Did you call the vet when the dog ate the nuggets? Chocolate is highly toxic to dogs, that much chocolate would have killed a smaller dog!! :o

HI Chels, I went online last night and checked the levels of toxicity for dogs; milk chocolate is very toxic in the ratio of one ounce of chocolate per pound of dog. Also called the emergency vet's office.....so, since Annie weighs 55 pounds, she was well within the safe range. Just a bloated, fat piggie with a binge problem, that's all - she's done this before - - and I will now find shiny gold nugget wrappers in the poop starting today, I believe....

Nikki, yay - good news about your hubby's weight! :)

Rinne, your "crackers" sound interesting, let us know how that goes...hey, the founder of Lara bars started out in the exact same way, remember! :)

Jeny, I felt the same way about giving up my wine......shook my fist at God and said, look at EVERYTHING I've given up, all that's gone on, and how exhausted and spent I am, and I gave up gluten, and Robert, and no, I am NOT giving up my alcohol..... well, God won in the end, I guess.....the more unhealthy habits I give up, I am finding, the more blessed I truly am.

(holy Lord, what if He decides I am spending too much time on the computer......oh nooooooooooo  )

Morning everyone....hope we are all well today......gotta get to work!

I think about that often to. These last few months the kids have been watching entirely too much TV in the form of Little House, Mister Ed, Davey & Goliath, Andy Griffith, My Friend Ficka, Thunderhead, National Velvet, Lassie, and Charlie Brown Christmas. That's about all we have but I may have missed a few.

Susan, I didn't know that about Lara Bars but now you've made me curious. I'm actually trying to come up with something that I can market at a folk festival I'll be attending.

These days getting wild for me is half a cup of coffee.

Andrea, at least your children are watching wholesome entertainment. I find much of what is available for children shocking.

So far, no fevers today. They just removed the central line and aren't trying for another IV unless another fever appears. Once she's about 48 hrs. fever free, we can go home! I can hardly believe it!

She's doing well without oxygen now, with her O2 Sats staying above 90. She's been happily playing most of the morning and is resting comfortably now. She's really doing well, praise God!

She lit up when she saw Cole this morning and has been entertaining the doctors and nurses, as well as us. She's just too cute!

WOW!!!

Andrea, we do the same. I buy videos at Blockbuster when they sell their previously viewed ones for a discount. Then for the kids we also have old tv shows. A really funny thing happened when my son was about 6 and we went to my grandparents. They had a cable cartoon on, and a commercial came on. My son looked at my grandpa with a disgusted look. Then another one came on, the same thing. After a few commercials my son shouted, "Quit changing the channel!" My granfather got mad, stood up and said, "Hasn't this kid ever seen a commercial!" I can't imagine how many dollars we've saved having our kids miss out on the commercials for all the garbage they're trying to sell.

We talked about whether to get cable hooked up this time when we moved ... but in the end decided not to. We've not had it for 13 years, why bother now? I have trouble enough getting them away from the iPods, computers, movies, video games, etc.

Susan....I meant to tell you this yesterday. Dove makes chococlates with almonds in them now!! They're pretty new. We just got them in a couple weeks ago at my work....yes, besides being the dairy manager and stocking all the yogurts and cheese (which I cant have)...I'm also in charge of the candy section. How cruel is that?? <_<

The new Dove w/ almonds come in a stand-up bag....like Popables. Maybe you could try these next time?? Oh....I didnt check if they're gluten-free or not so if anyone decides to try these....DOUBLE CHECK.

YAY for Megan!! :D

I know what you mean. When we got our van last month the dealership had a TV and my daughter happened to find Little House. She was confused by all the commercials since she was used to watching them commercial free.

Yes, good news to all parents who are monitoring the filth....my nieces (my brother's five daughters) had seen EVERYTHING by age 6 or 7. Movies that I found so repugnant I couldn't watch, they'd all seen many times.......my bro loves horror movies and has always watched them with the girls.....no wonder they couldn't even go to the bathroom alone until they were teens......but in my exhausted phase, I watched lots of TV unfortunately, and was pretty disgusted by what was on in prime time, that kids had easy access to.

Nikki - golden poops :lol::lol::lol:

None of it will ever, ever run out.

Bumble Bars & peanut butter.

There was so much goose crap all over the road, that as the bike traveled down the road, it would kick up all the goose crap into the wagon and the girls would come in splattered with goose crap all over their faces and clothes. The bike wheels would kick it up into their faces.

Like some of us, our geese shall be poopless. (or, shall poop on our neighboring farms.)

My point being that spinach happens to everyone

Donna, good for you....may I suggest you never buy your beads/etc. in bead stores....four to six times markup - - I go to the wholesale shows, of course, but anyone can attend (you don't need resale license in the front half - the size of a football field - of the show) in San Mateo every year, but they are nationwide.....at least buy from a catalog, such as Rio Grande or Fire Mountain Gems! I will post a photo of jewelry sometime.....just sterling with semi-precious gemstone and pearls (lots of chalcedony, tanzanite, iolite, raw, untreated rubies, peridot, turqoise, quartz, blah blah, every color and every semi-precious gem...lemon pineapple.....prehnite....amazonite.....SOMEBODY STOP ME.....) my jewelry's a little on the bohemian side.....I steal ideas from fragments.com, Sundance catalog, In Style magazine - - I do lots of the individually-lined sterling wire kind, like the rosary-style - tedious and time-consuming! HOpe to take a jewelry class soon, actually make my own sterling findings and things....it will consume me....

I still get free passes to the gem show at San Mateo...I think they have beads there too sometimes. I'm trying to NOT let this become an obsession like all my other crafty type things have become, but I have a feeling it will be hard. I can't wear earrings any more but love bracelets. @SamAlvi, It's common with anemia to have a lower tTg IgA antibodies than DGP IgG ones, but your high DGP IgG scores still point to Celiac disease.   Since a gluten challenge would pose further health damage, you may want to ask for a DNA test to see if you have any of the commonly known genes for Celiac disease.  Though having the genes for Celiac is not diagnostic in and of itself, taken with the antibody tests, the anemia and your reaction to gluten, it may be a confirmation you have Celiac disease.   Do discuss Gastrointestinal Beriberi with your doctors.  In Celiac disease, Gastrointestinal Beriberi is frequently overlooked by doctors.  The digestive system can be affected by localized Thiamine deficiency which causes symptoms consistent with yours.  Correction of nutritional deficiencies quickly is beneficial.  Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine, helps improve intestinal health.  All eight B vitamins, including Thiamine (Benfotiamine), should be supplemented because they all work together.   The B vitamins are needed in addition to iron to correct anemia.   Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!

Currently, there are no tests for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out and we do have testing for celiac disease. There are two primary test modalities for diagnosing celiac disease. One involves checking for antibodies in the blood. For the person with celiac disease, when gluten is ingested, it produces an autoimmune response in the lining of the small bowel which generates specific kinds of antibodies. Some people are IGA deficient and such that the IGA antibody tests done for celiac disease will have skewed results and cannot be trusted. In that case, there are IGG tests that can be ordered though, they aren't quite as specific for celiac disease as the IGA tests. But the possibility of IGA deficiency is why a "total IGA" test should always be ordered along with the TTG-IGA. The other modality is an endoscopy (scoping of the upper GI track) with a biopsy of the small bowel lining. The aforementioned autoimmune response produces inflammation in the small bowel lining which, over time, damages the structure of the lining. The biopsy is sent to a lab and microscopically analyzed for signs of this damage. If the damage is severe enough, it can often be spotted during the scoping itself. The endoscopy/biopsy is used as confirmation when the antibody results are positive, since there is a small chance that elevated antibody test scores can be caused by things other than celiac disease, particularly when the antibody test numbers are not particularly high. If the antibody test numbers are 10x normal or higher, physicians will sometimes declare an official diagnosis of celiac disease without an endoscopy/biopsy, particularly in the U.K. Some practitioners use stool tests to detect celiac disease but this modality is not widely recognized in the medical community as valid. Both celiac testing modalities outlined above require that you have been consuming generous amounts of gluten for weeks/months ahead of time. Many people make the mistake of experimenting with the gluten free diet or even reducing their gluten intake prior to testing. By doing so, they invalidate the testing because antibodies stop being produced, disappear from the blood and the lining of the small bowel begins to heal. So, then they are stuck in no man's land, wondering if they have celiac disease or NCGS. To resume gluten consumption, i.e., to undertake a "gluten challenge" is out of the question because their reaction to gluten is so strong that it would endanger their health. The lining of the small bowel is the place where all of the nutrition in the food we consume is absorbed. This lining is made up of billions of microscopically tiny fingerlike projections that create a tremendous nutrient absorption surface area. The inflammation caused by celiac disease wears down these fingers and greatly reduces the surface area needed for nutrient absorption. Thus, people with celiac disease often develop iron deficiency anemia and a host of other vitamin and mineral deficiencies. It is likely that many more people who have issues with gluten suffer from NCGS than from celiac disease. We actually know much more about the mechanism of celiac disease than we do about NCGS but some experts believe NCGS can transition into celiac disease.
    • SamAlvi
Thank you for the clarification and for taking the time to explain the terminology so clearly. I really appreciate your insight, especially the distinction between celiac disease and NCGS and how anemia can point more toward celiac. This was very helpful for me.

Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.
    • lizzie42
My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
