It's a southern thing. But none of my friends do it, they just go out to eat.

For a sample, get some corn on cob. Cook slightly. Sharp knife, cut of one layer of corn all around, Take your knife and scrape the sides of the cob..to get all the rest and the milky juice out. Put it in a pan with some bacon grease, add a little water, butter salt and pep. Cook until not soupy. Slop it up.

Eat as is, put in cornbread, stews, brunswick stew. ....After you have this, you will never eat corn out of a can every again.

With all these Southerners here, I know I have a witness. :)

Now the corn shuckers job... Tavi, the job is yours

Premature post:

Susan -- Yes..evil MIL for reducing his meds, we have them back under control now, and everything is fine. We don't have TARGET in Canada, but it is President's Choice brand (Store brand for a big chain up here). It's AMAZING plain or with some *mix* in it ;)

Rachel -- Yes 50 pounds was a lot. 3 1/2 years ago when my wife (Bobbi) and I started dating, I was 190, and when I was dx'd I was almost 140. The Canadian Forces medical staff was worried as I was under my recruiting weight from 8 years ago.

Vincent -- Great news about Megan.

Daxin Explorer

Okay done.

Vincent can't be John-Boy if he is the town rule breaker.

Well, off to make a late dinner for Bobbi and I. Must put the 2 year old to bed and get the kitchen cleaned up. Seems like I've been going since early.

And of course what do I do when I get 10 minutes??? Read 8 pages of posts :D:D:D

See you all in the morning

OK - How do I get my husband to pay for me to take belly dancing lessons? I took a couple in college but he thought I was too fat to belly dance :( He didn't mean it that way, but it still hurt. Anyway, screw him, I want to take lessons! Now to get him to pay $64...

It could come out of my spending money...but no ;)

How about buying it for him for a gift, you take the class, you dancing for him is the gift.

If you want him to pay for it, tell him what's in it for him. ;) Or you could tell him you want to do it for exercise, and girls with more belly are better at it than the skinny ones! I never picture skinny girls belly dancing.

This was kind of random, huh?

Hallelujah to the corn!!! Have shucked WAY too much corn in my life . . . and it is DEFINITELY a southern thing!!! Will volunteer to help shuck . . . .

Susie -- little Destiny took a 3/4 lb. Girardelli dark chocolate bar off the coffee table one night . . . we couldn't find her . . . Brandon said, "WHERE did Destiny go???" We finally found her -- underneath a chair, with more than 2/3 of the chocolate bar GONE. (surprisingly, she removed the wrapper. I thought that was pretty talented.) Called the vet . . . that much chocolate would kill a 3 lb. dog . . . have to make her throw up. Have you ever had to do that? Not much fun. Give 4 tbs. hydrogen peroxide every 15 minutes until the first puke. Then keep going until it's clear. Finally put her on a towel in the wash basin in the laundry room. She had the "poor pitiful me" look on her face the whole time -- 4 hours -- and for the next week afterward. She walked around, pitifully, with her head down, moved slowly . . . the whole drama bit!!! Still, though, she's a choc-a-holic!!!

Can't remember who wanted the news on the BioZymes, but I'm calling tomorrow!!! Had to do "wedding stuff" today with Ash.

I used to make jewelry, too . . . have way too many beads and findings. Don't know whether to make jewelry or sell the stuff on E-bay . . . they're all sterling silver and gold-filled findings . . . and the stones are really high quality . . . will have to see how motivated I am. I'm just starting the "selling thing" on e-bay

Someone asked about music . . . I play piano . . . . my daughter says I sing well, but I don't think so. Compared to her, though, no one sings well . . . she's an opera singer! Her fiance is, too. They recorded this unbelievable song in Italian to play just prior to the processional for their wedding. It is unbelievable, if I do brag, myself!! <_<

Farting dogs??? I am telling you what . . . I turned that dog around 3 different times last night so that his head would be at the top . . . and he STILL didn't stay. Maybe he IS celiac . . . I do know that it was much worse, though, the other night when we let him finish off one of our baked potatoes. It is so bad that, once we were all sitting on the couch. Lucky let one rip . . . it was so horrible that it made Destiny jump about 6 inches to the other side of the couch!!:lol: Then, she walked all the way to the OPPOSITE end of where he was!! I asked her if she was okay, she just looked shell-shocked!!!!! The good news, however, is that neither one of our dogs leave "presents" for us . . . they'd probably explode before doing that!

Dove chocolate covered almonds . . . they are to DIE for!! First got them a year ago Christmas . . . they used to be seasonal. Will have to find out if they are gluten-free, AND if they are available all the time . . . could be trouble!!!!!

Waiting to see if my new batteries are in for my wheels . . . I MISS my independence. This whole "somebody pushing you around in the chair" when you get tired is spinach!!!!!

Need to leave Rachelville and enter "get your butt in gear and get the rest of the stuff done for the Wedding ville." Talk to you guys soon . . . . . Hugs, Lynne

Lisa Mentor

I guess, I will be the spinach shucker tomorrow morning. Ah, shinach. :(

But I get to eat it, so nan, nan, nanda...........pithhhhh :D

Volunteer Lynne , well, excuse me , but where the heck are you. <_< be here in the am.

MEGAN UPDATE

MONDAY, JULY 31, 2006 09:47 PM, CDT

Still no fevers! She had her pacing wires removed today, so the only thing she's attached to now is her heart and O2 monitors and the feeding tube (which she was attached to before surgery)!!! The nurse let Cole help with removing the pacing wires, which made him feel very important.

She had a really good day and seems to be feeling so much better than before surgery. One doctor who saw her when we were here a couple weeks ago just kept commenting on the difference. She couldn't believe it. She said it usually takes longer for kids to look good, so we're thankful for that.

A family that at Ronald McDonald House just had surgery today and isn't doing well and had to be put back on the heart lung machine tonight. His name is Will Ray. Please pray for him and his parents, Fred and Amy.

Thanks for everything!

Love to all - Jarod, Tanya, Cole, and Megan Hope

Well, I have the opposite problem. My LDL has been moderately high for years. I eat healthy and exercise regularly but can't seem to move that meter. I used to be on a statin (and my doctors want me to go back on one) and it brought both HDL and LDL down but the ratios never changed. I think a lot of that cholesterol stuff is just baked into the genes.
    • knitty kitty
Wow, @plumbago, Curiouser, and curioser... Have you been fasting?  Apparently HDL levels increase after fasting... https://ajcn.nutrition.org/article/S0002-9165(23)31185-7/abstract   I must say it, try taking some Thiamine.  Thiamine helps regulate lipoproteins... Thiamine helped lower HDL in this study whether they had diabetes or not. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3921172/#:~:text=Serum thiamine and its derivatives, supplementation (p %3D 0.009).

Welcome to the forum, @Tyoung! I would assume for the time being that the mild gastritis and the celiac disease are connected and that once you get a good handle on gluten free eating and experience significant healing in the lining of your duodenum, you will also see improvement in the gastritis as well. Gastritis is more often than not an accompanying finding that is commented on in the post scope/biopsy notes when people are positive for celiac disease.
    • Tyoung
Hello! I was recently diagnosed with celiacs and mild chronic gastritis was noted on my EGD as well. My GI did not even bring up the gastritis and when I asked she brushed it off. I really want to heal my gut completely not just from celiacs but also the gastritis. Did anyone else have this at diagnosis? Were you able to treat it? Was it associated with celiacs or something entirely different? Thank you!!
    • plumbago
The last time my vitamin D was very low, according to a lab test, was before I was diagnosed with celiac disease. I've been supplementing ever since, and now the numbers on the lab tests are within their normal ranges, oftentimes way above. I've also been supplementing with methylcobalamin (B12) since I was low before diagnosis in 2010, and now I'm fine. I'm surprised I ever requested a folate level, but I did, in 2019. Result 9.4 ng/mL (range >3.0).
