does anyone have an idea?

My stool reaches my rectum but then won't come out. I am doing a regular enyma. I know this can't be good. would senna or cascara be a good lax for right now. So desperate. Water enymas don't work. sorry :(

Lisa,

I'm not familiar with senna or cascara...I've never tried either. The enemas always work for me but sometimes I may need to do it twice. I use about a quart of warm water and then retain it as long as I can. I also massage my adbomen. It hasnt failed me yet. I usually do 2 consequetive enemas and for some reason the second one is the one that really has the best results.

If you're not using much water or not holding it very long...it wont work.

I never took laxitives of any kind except for when I had to....for my colonoscopy.

Carla - -- I worked VERY hard at the semi-annual REstoration Harward outlet warehouse sale two years ago, tag-teamed it with a girlfriend, it was about a hundred degrees in the warehouse, I drove two hours to get there, was there for EIGHT HOURS......the line to purchase was three hours long......but I did get my down-stuffed linen couches - FABULOUS to lounge on, for a fraction of the cost........quite proud of self......you will love yours....

They sound great! I'm sure the Dingos love them!

I do love this ... I'm on it now. I inherited a down-filled sofa from my grandmother. She lived in Florida, so it was pink and we've used in in the basement for years.

When we moved into this quirky old house last year, I had it reupholstered in a black fabric with circles (not dots). It's great, too, but it has kind of a low back ... I need to find throw pillows for it.

Jin, we lived in this house 2002-2003, but had to move back to Indiana because our house in the country there didn't sell. We rented this one out. So, it was easy to move back into. I get totally moved into a house in two weeks with pictures hanging and everything.

Last time we lived here we were strapped financially because of having two houses, so this time we are doing some renovation. Much of our furniture was old, so we're also doing some fun stuff reupholstering and buying new.

Our bedroom is the finished attic ... since our old bedroom was a normal room and this is a suite, most of it was unfurnished last time. It's a pretty fun room now. Very eclectic.

We're working on getting the kitchen done ... the planning stage is taking longer than the actual work will  I guess that's normal.

How heinous! I would not be able to live with this forever....I know Patti suffered with it too.

It was miserable and no doctor would do anything about it...was just lucky that the one doctor actually found some fibroid tumors. :P

And the green toes w/ fluffy pink slippers - - sounds fantastically whimsical!

Quite fantastically whimsical indeed!

Switched my bed to the crisp, white summer linens and duvet. To be ruined by dingos, of course.

Both of my dogs were WHITE and were basically indoor dogs and still they ruined my crisp, white summer linens and duvet. :P How is that possible I ask!?

I just realized that if I was actually going to post to all the comments I wanted to I would be looking at parts 5, 6, 7......

I ordered the most outrageous white leather couch and ottoman today. It will look perfect in the house we are about to sell.

 I had a white couch once!

I can't remember...are you taking a stool softener?

I cannot believe you used to get up at 3:30am to exercise! I always worked out in the evenings. When I was a teenager, I used to be able to workout for two hours every night! Now, I am lucky to get off of the sofa some days without putting forth extreme effort! I miss being able to do more things.

Well, more accurately, I used to wake up at 3:30 and since I couldn't get back to sleep, I used to get up and exercise--no matter how tired I was. Now, I exercise at lunch and in the evenings because I don't have quite enough energy in the morning...food helps. :P

I had some OCD tendencies when I was young, like I could not stand to have sticky hands.

I'm still like this...can't stand to have anything on my hands...must wash them if I get anything on them.

Not impressed. You totally have NOT convinced me. I've never heard you talk of Racheling broccoli! Now, if you Carla'd Bumble Bars, that'd be impressive! Can you eat HALF a Bumble Bar?

Actually, YES, I can eat only half a Bumble Bar. :P I can actually do that for about 2 weeks, then it's back to rachelling the darned things.

I just had a new settee delivered today ... it's actually more like a small, down-filled sofa! So, when I am having a flare and can't handle all the activity downstairs, I don't have to lay in bed ... there's somewhere else comfortable to sit.

I've always a chaise...they always look so darned comfy. :)

I *knew* there were exceptions to this and finally thought of one. Nobody would say chronology is the study of time, would they?

The grandma sofa sounds fabulous!

Just got off the phone with my brother a little bit ago.

He's doing good. He said he has more energy and he can climb stairs a little easier. This is only one week gluten free. I reminded him about soap/shampoo and also told him about having his own condiments.

I read some things off to him from your list Jin.....thanks. :D

Murph - from what I remember about "an" or "a" before the H (glottal sound in linguistics - - I am such a geek), that is really all about preference - but A historic is much more common. OMG I am experimenting with these new FABULOUS watercolor pencils - - just did a wild sketch in less than five minutes of multi-colored tree trunks (this in the Fauve style - fauve means WILD BEAST) of my favorite painters (think Raol Dufy, Andre Derain, Henri Matisse)- - - perhaps I"ll post it!

Now you have two pictures to post. :P

I went out and got my chocolate chips AND coconut bliss....as well as snickerdoodle cookies for the children. That was it for treats. Also got some other food stuff (healthy) to get us through the week.

Chocolate chips AND snickerdoodles--yum :P

Just got off the phone with my brother a little bit ago.

I'm glad to hear that, I know I felt better once my brother was gluten free and feeling better, it has been at least six months for him now.

I see Rachelville has given new meaning to scat, now if we could just have a song about that.

Did I mention the Reeses PB cups used to be my favorite?

We don't eat peanuts anymore since they are so closely related to soy. Talitha and Micah also tested intolerant to them. Peanut butter was soooooo good.

glad you got your treats. You deserve them after the week you have had. I make great gluten free treats , unfortunatly I can't eat most of them now- but one of these days I am going to ship you a care package!!

I will give you an update on my appt. Monday I am really hoping it will be productive.

Donna-

I had bad luck with digestive enzymes for a while but I ahve found one I can tolerate and have been on it for a while- its Absorbaid its a powder and I don't know if it would work for you but I figured I would mention it.

Jin- Fries- not such a good choice for candida!!

 How does one know if one has candida? (I know, I know, but I was never paying attention to ALL of the scientifness because there is just so much of it and it confuses me!)

because I could literally eat sugary treats ALL DAY, EVERY DAY and must really work at limiting my sweets intake. It has been this way all of my life....I LIVED on sugar in high school, and was utterly exhausted......

Andrea - good news about your bro!

Well, I am officially shutting things down now......Prairie Home is over and I must watch my movies in bed.

Of course, the computer will be screaming at me, as it IS a full moon and all.....

My ART session was good too. The viral infection that was found last time is gone, but he still found bacterial and fungal problems. I asked if the bacteria could be the lyme and he said no...lyme wasn't included in that bacterial slide. Lyme was big time again and it is still affecting my thyroid.

Donna, I had totally forgot about ART today!! :o

I was surprised when I read this....sheeesh....hope I dont forget my own next weekend!

It seems like from both of your ART sessions Lyme is showing up as your main issue?? Did he test metals at all?

I hope nothing else shows up for me next weekend...I dont need any additional co-infections or anything else. :P

I cant take any EFA's either....I havent even tried in a couple years. I used to take a fish oil EFA and it kept messing me up so I tossed it. I've since read that yeah....fish oils can contain mercury...another thing I totally overlooked.

I just avoid anything having to do with fish now. I was curious if your EFA contained fish oil. <_<

Miamia, that was funny about the smoked salmon. ;) What else do you like to eat?

Today I made "pork and beans" with organic ground pork, onions, garlic and black beans and on the side steamed chard with lime juice on it. More stuff on mercury....

Mercury Poisoning is caused due to over exposure (usually amalgam dental filling) and can result into many unrelated diseases. Let us have a look at these Symptoms of Mercury Poisoning.

Mercury is odorless, colorless, and tasteless, unless under a black light, then the vapors can be seen rising from the tooth like it was a cigarette. Mercury is a natural and very poisonous substance, its chemical symbol is Hg, and the commonly found and used chemical of Mercury is Mercuric Sulfide Hgs. It is a refined form of Cinnabar. It is used in many different forms in our society. It is used in paint, Batteries, and many other industrial and household uses including the well known use in thermometers. It is also used as 50% of the contents of amalgam dental fillings.

Mercury poisoning symptoms are systemic. This means that it doesn

ADD. (I'm not too sure about that. I looked at CDC on this and she didn't meet alot of there requirements....but some).

Common neurological symptoms that occur in children are: Also common are social problems such as withdrawal, being irritated, aggressive behavior, night terrors and other sleep problems, mood swings.

Talitha seems to fit mostly neurological symptoms which would make sense with the inutero exposure and then the vaccines which can cross the brain blood barrier.

Dear Mia, Carla, and Rachel,

I am trying so hard not to overdo the sugar, but I suck at it! :( I was doing better, then I just needed candy!

I ate a couple of miniature Baby Ruth bars. My blood sugar gets low, and fruit does not seem to do it. It is often still low even after eating!

Of course, the chocolate cravings could also be from a Magnesium deficiency like Carla said. Plus, it would help if I did not have a period every freakin' day! I tried going low-carb before, but my blood sugar got too low and I got shaky and dizzy and hot. That is so scary!

I think I need to go back in The Zone. That would help keep my blood sugar steady! I need to do something, so I stop racheling unhealthy foods. I am happy to report I have some beef that will be great with the DeBoles Penne Dad got tonight with the GV Gluten-Free Sauce at Wal-Mart! That is going to be so good! :)

Dear Andrea,

You are so welcome for the list! I am so glad to hear your brother is doing better! Hopefully, he will continue to be gluten-free! It is so irritating that my mother whines about feeling bad, but refuses to do anything about it. I told her, then you will not have me listening to you complain once you end up with gastric cancer, diabetes, and all of the other things you will end up with because you have Celiac and would not even try the diet! I do not mean to be cold, but I am tired of her crap!

My brother is the same way. He will not give up Debbie Cakes. I liked them as well, but let's face facts, you cannot eat that stuff and be healthy. Mom is on so many pills, you would not believe it. She takes Levsin, Levsinex, generic Ammodium, and something else for her stomach alone. She is on HRT, Xanax, and blood pressure medication as well. Overall, she takes probably eight different medications or so.

Talitha does seem to have Mercury poisoning by her symptoms. It would make sense. Moodiness is not uncommon at all with people who are being poisoned. Toxic metals can even cause Schizophrenia. Few people think about how dangerous these things are. Exposure is all over the place.

Dear Carla,

Your new furniture sounds nice! It is wonderful you guys got to move in so quickly! That house sounds wonderful! I sell furniture, but it is doubtful anyone would want to pay shipping charges for it. Those are very problematic, since we live in the second most expensive shipping zone.

Dear Donna,

Those shoes and that robe sound so cute and cozy! You know what I love? I would love to have those Marabou slippers! You know, the heels with the feathers on them? Those are so cute!

Dear Mia,

I hope your appointment is productive as well. I am sure it will be. We are all pulling for you! :) My appointment is Tuesday. I am nervous about bringing up Lyme, but I have to try!

Dear Murph,

It is not as easy as you think with the yeast. There are so many things that feed it. It is not just sugar and yeast! Alcohol, vinegar, moldy foods (dried fruits, mushrooms, cheeses, tomatoes, teas (except for green), and so many other things are a problem. You pretty much have to do the Atkins Diet to get rid of it. I have been having trouble going low-carb. It is difficult when your blood sugar gets low frequently.

I like words as well. I know exactly what you mean about hearing people say things in a way you are not used to. It can drive me crazy, too! Some people pronounce the h in herbs, and it is so odd that way! However, it is a correct pronunciation. When I was in 7th Grade, we had Etymology. I really enjoyed it.

Dear Rachel,

Mercury is certainly a huge problem. My father is one of those people who is convinced that Mercury poisoning does not exist and that they do not put it in dental material anymore. Well, la-dee-frickin' da! He can stick his head in the sand if he wants, but that very well could be why my grandmother has Alzheimer's now, and how he may end up with it!

Mercury is even in leather tanning products, so your furniture could make you ill!

Right now, I am agonizing over the mold all over the place. That does not help. I can smell it here in the basement. It is also all over the shower upstairs. God knows where else it is hiding! I am so worried it is toxic mold. I will never get well being stuck here!

Dear Susie aka Crazy White Girl Dancing,

Hey you lunatic! ;) That could be a cool pic to see! I do not have any Native American names yet. I am thinking along the lines of Sarcastic Girl Griping? How about that? I think that works for me!

Those pencils sound like fun! I would not mind playing with a set of those! I would love to see some of your art! I have some of mine I would like to show you guys. I do not know if I will be able to put them in my avatar or not, though.

Sincerely,

Jin

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Jin,

About the low blood sugar....shaking, dizziness, feeling hot, etc. I had all that when I first went on the candida diet and cut out carbs and sugars. It was VERY bad....I was shaking and NEEDING candy and pasta. I would feel weak...like I was gonna pass out. I remember one time I was trembling as I tore open a snickers bar...I couldnt get it in my mouth fast enough....and I thought I would pass out if I didnt eat it.

I think alot of it is cravings and withdrawl...in my case it passed. You get past it and the cravings stop. I stayed on the diet totally free of carbs and sugar for 4 months and I never experienced those symptoms after the initial withdrawl...once everything passed I was feeling TONS better than I'd felt while still eating those foods.

I went through it again this time around....which is why I ended up stuffing a gluten brownie into my mouth...because I gave in to the cravings for something sweet. Even in the very beginning...the first couple years of my illness...when I still had amalgams and was still eating a normal diet...I noticed a HUGE change in what I was wanting to eat while I was at work.

Every day I was NEEDING candy bars or treats from the bakery. I would have to stop what I was doing because the cravings would hit so hard...I would feel very fuzzy and the need for sweets was intense. I was aware that something wasnt right...I had NEVER felt that way prior to getting sick and I rarely ate candy bars.

For me it wasnt caused by deficiencies...it was caused by the candida. Thats why once I killed off enough candida and detoxed a little...the cravings stopped completely.

Everytime I've ever cut out the sugar and carbs I've experienced the shakiness, weakness, etc. Its very normal...your body starts to detox, you're getting some die-off from not feeding candida, you're going through withdrawl...its something you HAVE to go through to get from point A to point B.

Theres nothing easy about eliminating sugar and carbs when you've got candida. You feel worse before you feel better. Even without candida overgrowth cutting these things out will cause some discomfort as the body starts detoxing.

The first time around was the worst for me because thats when my body was the most toxic....everything hit me very hard when I suddenly changed my diet cutting out all the processed foods.

I know you feel you dont have much control over the money situation but you DO have control over your diet. Wether you have Lyme, candida, mercury, etc...the first step to recovery is your diet. I think in your case just going gluten-free and continuing to eat all the processed food, candy, chips, etc....isnt going to help your body as much as if you were to avoid those things.

Maybe if you avoided the junk food and coffee you would have the energy to go to work at Starbucks and get insurance so that you are able to get some medical tests...like the western blots or anything else you might want done.

It worked for me! The candida diet ALONE was the only reason I was able to function again and return to a full 40 hour work week after having been on disability for 2 years.

Its possible...you just have to have the willpower to do it. Even if you got diagnosed with Lyme....alot of what it takes to get well depends on you...its alot of work. Getting serious about your diet can go a long way for you. :)

P.S. If you're worried about magnesium deficiency....you can always take a magnesium supplement which would be a much better choice than candy bars.

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
