Carla,

What appt. is on Tuesday...LLMD?

Everyone,

Well I went to a party tonight and I guess I overdid it....I'll be in bed all day tomorrow...I can already tell. But I have a really sore throat and it feels almost like strep so my mom said if it's still bad tomorrow, we will call the Dr. I also had a low grade fever (99.0) earlier which is REALLY bad because it indicates infection with the PICC line.

I forgot to tell my mom but I took it again and it's now normal again. Well, good night everyone!

Kassandra

hi everyone...am reading along but not typing much as I am staying in bed due to my back problems. Apparently the Chinese massage was a little too hard...LOL. It is better this afternoon but I couldn't hardly get around this morning.

Hope your back doesn't keep you down long.

I assume you are back at home and endured the bus ride.

I hope you don't have strep and also that your PICC line isn't getting infected.

Yes, I'm home until the end of the month. Yay!

Well, I got the ultrasound report back. Been mulling it over since yesterday. Turns out there aren't any gallstones and everything else looks ok (except that they didn't review the kidneys on the u/s report. grrrrr). Only problem they found was a polyp in the gallbladder. Its not big enough for them to think its anything worrying. Problem is, gallbladder polyps aren't supposed to cause symptoms. Hrm.

So I'll be calling the doc tomorrow to see what he has to say about it. From the research I've been doing on this, the next step should be a Hida scan, along with some blood tests. If he doesn't suggest these or anything else, then its time to look for a new doc.... again. I've been seeing this guy for 2 years now and he's never once palpated my abdomen. Not that I really want him to do that, but I thought it was standard diagnostic procedure. Then again, I've kind of had my doubts about him from the start. What GI has never heard the term "bazooka barf" before????? <_<

Found that there's a celiac-knowledgeable GI over in Paoli, which is about 45 minutes from me. If he's more on the ball about that, then he might be more on the ball about other issues as well.

I decided to blow off the other blood testing last week (aldosterone, electrolytes, LH, FSH) because I found out my new holistic MD only allows a 1/2 hour for appts, rather than the hour I had with my old doc. I want to talk to her about the thyroid and gallbladder things and don't want to get sidetracked on issues that are somewhat less urgent to deal with. Time's going to be at a premium as it is, considering we have a lot of catching up to do. I'm seeing her this Friday. Should be interesting.

So anyway, that's my life at the moment.

----------------

Sherry,

I'll bet it feels soooo good to be home. :)

Kassandra,

Hope you're not getting strep. That would seriously suck on top of everything else going on. Crossing fingers it's not a PICC line infection as well.

Carla,

LOL re: hubby's mortification! At least its working! :)

Donna...I'm supposed to be going to Xmas in the Park with my ex...I dont know what day yet. I can assure you it wont be the 19th though. :P That was our anniversary...if it werent for that I'd definately wanna go that night and see you sing!

OMGosh, lol!!! Shoot...the date was originally the 14th but they changed it at the last minute to the 19th! I just found out last night our group is singing all three songs we've rehearsed! That means now we have to scramble to get in a couple of more practices before the 19th. Well, maybe you can come next year...we have sung there every year for the last 6 or more years, but with the new choir director no one ever knows exactly what will happen.

Sorry to hear that the neck pain has gotten so much worse again. I do hope that part of it anyway is due to the stress you've been under lately.

Yeah, I'm sure it has a lot to do with it. Stupid stress!:lol:

The IV is gonna take 2 hours though!! I think I better bring my music and some good magazines. Unfortunately, they dont allow cell phone use in the IV room. :(

I think I can get away with texting though. ;)

 Yeah, don't want that new phone to go to waste. :P

I guess you caught that huh.

Many of us probably caught that, lol.

Oh, hubby saw something that looked like rice today

Yeah, I'm still seeing that too...yesterday saw something else weird, lol. We just won't tell your DH you posted about it, lol.

I always am at Church early, then I don't pay attention to everyone coming in. Well, last week my braces weren't affecting my playing too much, so I took the solo ... usually I let the piano player do it alone because of my braces. Anyway, afterward I looked around ... there was standing room only in the Church ... it seats 1500 :o . Good thing I didn't look around before I played.

Yeah, that definitely would have freaked me out, lol. Fortunately I don't think I'll ever have to worry about solos again...the new choir director seems to pick the same people to do solos, and he can't remember my name, so I'm sure I'm safe. :P

Anyway, I emailed the nurse I bought the laser from to ask about the sleeping ... ever since I got it, I've slept with only half an Ambien. She said she's had similar results from others. She also said that there's a link on her website to Energy Essences which have a lot of natural sleep aides.

Hum, interesting. I'm thinking half my problem is work. I slept well again last night, and I really shouldn't have. I had a diet coke for lunch (I know, I know, lol), then I decided to stay last night and watch the whole program (I've been leaving right after I sing), so I didn't get home until much later...that usually throws off my sleep in some way, but I fell right to sleep and even though I woke up at 12:00, 3:00 and 4:00, I went back to sleep each time.

So two things are different about the last two nights. No work the next day is one, the second thing is that I've been having a different snack before bed. Last night and the night before, I've been having a nutrition bar with a protein/fat. It's called Think Green!, and Friday night I had it with a few cashews, and last night with a little macadamia nut butter. I was reading some info someone posted on the "low blood sugar during the night" thread that suggested a complex carb before bed. One of my HN doctors suggested snacking right before bed for the blood sugar issue, but I didn't find that it helped, but maybe because my snacks were mostly protein. So, I'll try the same snack tonight and see what happens...tomorrow is a work day, lol.

Donna,

I'm feeling okay...not great, but not terrible. I think the party was just too much stimulation for me...lol!! What does EGADS mean?? I totally have no clue!

It's really interesting because I have been eating mostly raw foods, and yesterday I had Tinkyada pasta with some home made pesto and then I brought mini Namaste Carrot Cake to the party and I am SO bloated! It's crazy. I still get bloated on the raw foods, but not as much as the food I ate yesterday.

The reason I thought of that is because the think green bars reminded me of my raw foods...lol.

Carla,

So it sounds like we'll be having lots of updates this week...yay!

Before I went to bed my temp was 96.7 and then just now it was 97.8, so I guess no fever for me...lol! But it does that, a huge fluctuation throughout the day...it's very strange.

Andrea,

I sure hope I don't have strep either....ugh. Just what I would need on top of everything else.

Sherry,

I am glad you are home now, but I am sorry your back is being problematic.

Oh, hubby saw something that looked like rice today ... he's been on Humaworm for a couple weeks now. He'd be mortified that I just posted that on the web, LOL.

Poor Adam.

Do you get Scott F.'s newsletters?? His latest one mentions Humaworm.

Sheeesh...I'm like the *only* person NOT doing Humaworm!

I'll be seeing him next Saturday...I'll have to ask about it when we get to the parasites. I'll ask him if he's "seen" anything.

Look forward to your update. :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed.....hopefully this GI will have some answers for you.

 Yeah, don't want that new phone to go to waste. :P

NEVER!

I may be pretty good at following the advice of my Dr.'s....but never when it comes to the cell phone usage. Its like stuck to my head. :P

My boss said I could text her during my IV....I wont let my phone go to waste. ;)

I guess if I dont have problems with the IV I'll be getting them every 2 weeks...a few days after my DMPS treatments. Good thing I changed my plan to include more text messaging!

What does EGADS mean?? I totally have no clue!

Kassandra...you're not the only one!

I'm clueless about alot of things.

Donna's been typing "EGADS" since the beginning of this thread...and I have no idea what shes trying to say.

I always think of Charlie Brown for some reason.

Andrea....I've been meaning to ask for an update from Charlie. Have you heard anything?? I think awhile back you were sending out pm's about his sisters progress. I'd love to hear how things are going.

I think my pm box is full but you can email me. :)

Also...I will probably call you sometime today. :)

Yes, I did see Humaworm in Scott's newsletter. You are probably the ONLY person in the WHOLE world not using it ... if you asked around at work, everyone there probably uses it, too.

I thought EGADS was like, yikes!

Another thing with work......do you wake up thinking you may have missed the alarm, forgot to set it...whatever. That could disturb your sleep too.

Well, no, I double and triple check the alarm before I go to bed, lol. BUT, I do think about the fact that I DON'T have much time left before I have to get up when I wake up after midnight. That alone could probably do it, lol.

I'm feeling okay...not great, but not terrible. I think the party was just too much stimulation for me...lol!! What does EGADS mean?? I totally have no clue!

Rachel,

I'm not doing Humaworm yet. Going to do an endoscopy first (Friday). :P I hope your mineral IVs go well!

Kassandra,

Those temperature fluctuations are odd. Possibly it could have something to do with your adrenals? Yay for the LLMD appointment! Any news about the insurance yet?

Everyone,

Well, I'm sick. Apparently contradancing was more than a bit too much for me last night (and my ankles/knees/calves/thighs started swelling halfway through, possibly aggravating toxins from the detox?).

Also, I have my results back from Entrolab, and they're rather interesting. Apparently I'm one of the 3% of Celiacs who don't have the "celiac gene" only the gluten sensitivity genes.

Fecal Antigliadin IgA 50 (Normal Range <10 Units)

Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 27 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)

Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score <300 Units (Normal Range <300 Units)

Fecal anti-casein (cow's milk) IgA antibody 23 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)

Fecal Anti-Soy IgA 22 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)

HLA-DQ 3,1 (Subtype 9,6)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Hi Birdy, your Enterolab results are very similar to mine. :) My celiac blood tests were negative though. I'm curious whether I still would have antibodies with Enterolab's test since I've been eating "normal" for a couple months now ... but not curious enough to pay for the test, LOL.

What's contradancing?

Any kind of exercise made me herx in the beginning, but you need to do it! Dr. B has seen people get better from Lyme on exercise and no drugs! I've gone into remission myself from it .... I go even if I can't do much.

We recently found the best Mexican restaurant around here! It's funny because we're usually the only Americans in it .... that's saying a lot when you live in Ohio! LOL They even have Mexican Coke! We went there with the kids for lunch today ... I had enchiladas mole ... yum! And flan  and a Coke  .

My FIL was with us and commented on how good the refried beans were, and how they didn't spread all over the plate ... when he was finished, I told him that's because real Mexican refried beans have lard! Yum! I always buy the kind with lard at the grocery, too. Who wants refrieds with no fat? LOL

ShadowSwallow Newbie

Contradancing is like square dancing, but without the funny costumes, and in lines (like they do in the Jane Austen movies). It's amazing fun, I do it once a month with a bunch of friends, but this is the first time I've had a reaction like that. Oh, Open Original Shared Link a better explanation of contra. :D It takes a lot of energy, though, and I'm going to be wiped out for the next week. Worth it, though! ;)

I've been thinking I need to start on something like chlorella because it seems like a lot of toxins are being stirred up, but not as many are being carried out.

 I've been looking into lard to use for baking, there's this one brand that's supposed to be good... (non-hydrogenated).

confusedks Enthusiast

Carla,

Ew...lard!!!! That's gross! LOL!!! I do love Mexican food, and we get a lot of really good mexican food here...being in LA, it's great! Actually when I moved to New Zealand, my dad and I couldn't wait to get back to LA for some REAL Mexican food!

Actually, I went out for Mexican Food last night and they marinate ALL of their chicken, meat, etc. in SOY SAUCE!!! I was SO annoyed, so I ended up getting just a salad....lol.

Birdy,

I have no idea about the temp changes....strange. It's just like the rest of my body...lol!

I'm not doing humaworm either...lol! And, no news on the insurance front. <_<

Rachel,

I still am convinced if I ever decide to do the humaworm, I WON'T be looking for rice in my bm's...LOL!!

Donna,

I googled it and it was really hard to find anything out....it said it's kinda like another way of saying "omg". I was glad to know I wasn't the only one who didn't know what it meant...lol!

Everyone,

Well, I woke up at about 9.30 and then ate something and then got back in bed and just woke up again...it's 3 here. LOL! I think my hemoglobin must be dropping as we speak...lol!

CarlaB Enthusiast

Kassandra, lard makes things taste good. :) McDonald's fries were so much better when I was a kid because they were cooked in lard/animal fat! The best refried beans have lard ... you just never knew it, LOL.

LA does have good Mexican food ... we used to not get it this far north, but we have a pretty good size hispanic population now, so there are some authentic places. Twenty years ago ChiChi's and Taco Bell were as Mexican as you got! I gained 10 pounds in 9 weeks in Mexico! :o:lol: I didn't think I'd ever have that food again!

An interesting observation I have made at this restaurant ... almost all the hispanic people in there, except for those who work there, are men. I wonder if it's just the men who come this far north looking for work. It would be interesting to know why that is ... out of the two times I've been there, almost all the hispanic customers are men.

Birdy, let me know how it goes for baking. My great aunt was known for her chocolate chip cookies ... and she used lard.

The dancing sounds fun! I wonder if chlorella would help you with it ..... drink lots of water, and use lemon ... that always helped me with herxing.

Hey Rachel, I'm not using Humaworm yet either, not until the end of the month. I don't like looking  , but I figure I need to know if I pass obvious parasites because my doctor needs to know to give me the best care.

Quick update on my mom...

She's been taking that swish-and-swallow probiotic (Magic Mouth) for over a week now, and has seen only a tiny bit of improvement. On top of that, she's developed a female type yeast infection. She also realized that her nausea worsened in conjunction with the burning mouth and throat symptoms.

I told her it sounds to me like she's got a total-body systemic candida overload, and she reluctantly agrees. She already had acidopholus in the fridge, so she's going to use that up first. I'm going to hunt down some caprylic acid for her. She's still doing the Magic Mouth stuff, too.

She's started the candida diet, and HATES it already. :( I don't blame her. I wish she didn't have to do that, especially starting it at the holidays. She's always been such a healthy person in the past, I hope that she's able to beat this down relatively quickly!

BTW... When I was a kid, one of my friends got a tape worm. After the horror stories that went around the neighborhood, I've been an obsessive poop-checker ever since! :P

I just got the best Hannukah gifts ever!!!! OMG!! I got a gel eye mask to help with sinus pain, headaches, etc. AND one of those bed pillow things that have little arms. It's great to sit in bed and use my laptop now in bed!!! YAY!!!

Sarah,

I understand the anti candida diet sucks! There are some good recipes online though if she gets bored of chicken stir fry...lol!

I've been buying my seeds and nuts from Prana Organics for a number of years because the products have been GFCO-certified. I just got a new order delivered of their flax and sunflower seeds, and it turns out that they are no longer GFCO-certified. Instead, it just has a generic "Gluten Free" symbol on the package. I reached out to them to ask what protocols/standards/testing they have in place. The person that wrote back said that they are now certifying their gluten free status in-house, but that she couldn't answer my questions related to standards because the person with that info was on vacation. Not very impressed, especially since it still says on their website that they are GFCO-certified. Buyer beware!

Hi @Dizzyma I note what @trents has commented about you possibly posting from the UK.  Just to let you know that am a coeliac based in the UK, so if that is the case, do let me know if can help you with any questions on the NHS provision for coeliacs.    If you are indeed based in the UK, and coeliac disease is confirmed, I would thoroughly recommend you join Coeliac UK, as they provide a printed food and drink guide and also a phone app which you can take shopping with you so you can find out if a product is gluten free or not. But one thing I would like to say to you, no matter where you live, is you mention that your daughter is anxious.  I was always a bit of a nervous, anxious child but before my diagnosis in mid-life my anxiety levels were through the roof.   My anxiety got steadily better when I followed the gluten-free diet and vitamin and mineral deficiencies were addressed.  Anxiety is very common at diagnosis, you may well find that her anxiety will improve once your daughter follows a strict gluten-free diet. Welcome to the celic.com community @Dizzyma! I'm assuming you are in the U.K. since you speak of your daughter's celiac disease blood tests as "her bloods".  Has her physician officially diagnosed her has having celiac disease on the results of her blood tests alone? Normally, if the ttg-iga blood test results are positive, a follow-up endoscopy with biopsy of the small bowel lining to check for damage would be ordered to confirm the results of "the bloods". However if the ttg-iga test score is 10x normal or greater, some physicians, particularly in the U.K., will dispense with the endoscopy/biopsy. If there is to be an endoscopy/biopsy, your daughter should not yet begin the gluten free diet as doing so would allow healing of the small bowel lining to commence which may result in a biopsy finding having results that conflict with the blood work. Do you know if an endoscopy/biopsy is planned? Celiac disease can have onset at any stage of life, from infancy to old age. It has a genetic base but the genes remain dormant until and unless triggered by some stress event. The stress event can be many things but it is often a viral infection. About 40% of the general population have the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% actually develop celiac disease. So, for most, the genes remain dormant.  Celiac disease is by nature an autoimmune disorder. That is to say, gluten ingestion triggers an immune response that causes the body to attack its own tissues. In this case, the attack happens in he lining of the small bowel, at least classically, though we now know there are other body systems that can sometimes be affected. So, for a person with celiac disease, when they ingest gluten, the body sends attacking cells to battle the gluten which causes inflammation as the gluten is being absorbed into the cells that make up the lining of the small bowel. This causes damage to the cells and over time, wears them down. This lining is composed of billions of tiny finger-like projections and which creates a tremendous surface area for absorbing nutrients from the food we eat. This area of the intestinal track is where all of our nutrition is absorbed. As these finger-like projections get worn down by the constant inflammation from continued gluten consumption before diagnosis (or after diagnosis in the case of those who are noncompliant) the efficiency of nutrient absorption from what we eat can be drastically reduced. This is why iron deficiency anemia and other nutrient deficiency related medical problems are so common in the celiac population. So, to answer your question about the wisdom of allowing your daughter to consume gluten on a limited basis to retain some tolerance to it, that would not be a sound approach because it would prevent healing of the lining of her small bowel. It would keep the fires of inflammation smoldering. The only wise course is strict adherence to a gluten free diet, once all tests to confirm celiac disease are complete.

Hi all, I have so many questions and feel like google is giving me very different information. Hoping I may get some more definite answers here. ok, my daughter has been diagnosed as a coeliac as her bloods show anti TTG antibodies are over 128. We have started her  on a full gluten free diet. my concerns are that she wasn’t actually physically sick on her regular diet, she had tummy issues and skin sores. My fear is that she will build up a complete intolerance to gluten and become physically sick if she has gluten. Is there anything to be said for keeping a small bit of gluten in the diet to stop her from developing a total intolerance?  also, she would be an anxious type of person, is it possible that stress is the reason she has become coeliac? I read that diagnosis later in childhood could be following a sickness or stress. How can she have been fine for the first 10 years and then become coeliac? sorry, I’m just very confused and really want to do right by her. I know a coeliac and she has a terrible time after she gets gluttened so just want to make sure going down a total gluten free road is the right choice. thank you for any help or advise xx
