Great news Laura, how wonderful that you will have a family Christmas. :)

I came across this information about mercury and Lyme which I found very interesting, here is a link:

Open Original Shared Link

Mercury catalyzes infections and severely weakens the immune system, so it is not a big leap to accept that people with mercury poisoning would be more susceptible to chronic Lyme Disease. Conversely, Lyme Disease severely weakens the body’s ability to detoxify poisons, so people with Lyme Disease are more susceptible to accumulating mercury (even from miniscule, everyday exposure.) But in people with both Lyme Disease and mercury poisoning, which came first? Did the mercury come first, which eventually allowed the infection to thrive, or did the infection come first, which weakened the body enough to cause dysfunction in the mercury detoxification process? If mercury toxicity did come first, how and why did the person become mercury toxic?

Rachel, when I read this it became very clear to me why it is competely critical that you have the correct diagnosis. It is also clear to me that it is very important to have doctors who understand the relationship between mercury and lyme. <_< Now I have more questions for Hoffman.

Laura, Adam and I spent Feb.-June apart this year. All the kids except Morgan were with him ... I stayed back with her until she graduated from high school. It's hard ... I'm glad you're going to be back together soon.

Rinne,

Everything that was in your post was exactly what I was told by both my Dr. and the Bioset lady. They know I have both issues going on and that everything needs to be addressed but it cant all be done at once. The mercury will most likely be treated last....or at least when my body is much more efficient at detoxing.

They told me recovery is much more difficult when both factors are involved because Lyme and Mercury sort of "help" each other out.

Lyme makes you more suscepitble to mercury and vice versa. If the Lyme is there first (which is believed to be the case for me) then any exposure to mercury will bring the Lyme out. The lyme LOVES mercury. My Dr. said they are buddies....attached at the hip. Also the mercury will accumulate much faster due to the Lyme infection creating toxins and the body will be less efficient at detoxing....so the mercury will be much more damaging than it would if there were no Lyme at all.

If mercury is there first I would imagine the Lyme would take off right away.....because the immune system is already weakened. That wasnt the case with me....I felt fine for 2 years.

Its all really complicated but the Dr. and BioSET lady seem to know about the relationship between the two so I'm hoping that they will get me through this. So far there is no "game plan" because the Dr. needs to know exactly what infections I have.

I dont only have the co-infections test out there.....there was also a test for viruses such and Epstein Barr and some others. I'll get all the results at my next appt.

I think the people with no problems with detoxification could get through the same dental work I had just fine. The way the BioSET lady and my Dr. explained it....my body could not handle it.....because of the Lyme. Even though I didnt know the Lyme was there it was already creating a toxic environment and by the time I had the exposure to mercury...my detox pathways and organs were already accumulating too many toxins and the burden just became too great...so I got sick. :(

I think they consider the Lyme to be the greater threat to my overall health but what they said is that having both makes getting rid of *either* of them that much harder. I knew instinctively that if I had Lyme....I also had mercury. I knew I had some problem with mercury regardless because of what I experienced with my teeth. I knew having Lyme wouldnt "erase" that fact....so unfortunately I have both to deal with. :(

The best thing is that I had all my amalgams removed more than 2 years ago. There are no metals in my mouth at all. This eliminates my greatest exposure so basically I just need to be able to detox to get rid of whats stored inside me.

The scary thing for me is I had mine out over 15 years ago by a mercury free dentist, I took all the detox supplements, and mercury still showed up in my hair analysis this year. So did aluminum, and the aluminum was worse.

I wonder if these could be causing some of my problems. The strange thing is, I don't feel bad at all today ... totally weird since I've felt crummy every day for several months. It's a nice break though, I can get my house ready for everyone to come over Thanksgiving!

Carla,

The removal itself would have exposed you to mercury (even when done safely)....if you had Lyme you wouldnt be able to detox....it doesnt matter how many supplements you took. Unfortunately its just not that easy. Your ability to detox would have been greatly impaired. The supplements cant remove the mercury if your own body's detoxification pathways are not functioning properly. If there was no Lyme and your body was detoxing itself efficiently the supplements would likely be just fine. If there was Lyme....then no...they would not help. :(

I'm guessing that you were already sick and thats why you took the amalgams out?? Yeah....because you were sick for 30 years and had the amalgams removed 15 years ago?? I think its a good chance you have Lyme (but thats nothing new) and are probably in a similar situation as me. The only thing with me is that I got sick VERY fast and VERY suddenly. I think it had to do with the galvanic reaction from the gold and the amalgam touching. That scenario is the quickest way to get ALOT of mercury into your system very rapidly. I feel like thats what happened. Its probably why I have soooo many sensitivities as well. I have the Lyme toxins and the mercury and candida and I'm just overflowing with toxins. :(

Carla, a good day, how great. :)

I don't know whether you checked out the link I posted about mercury but it might answer some questions. The person writing had mercury removed by someone who was supposed to be a specialist but didn't do it correctly.

Yea for good days!!! :D

So glad you'll be able to get the house ready for Thanksgiving. :)

Rachel, you are right, it was one of the times I had a health crisis, I noticed that whenever I would grind my teeth at night that I would feel even worse, so I had the amalgams out. If I have Lyme, I already had it then.

I'm thinking, my immune system must be strong for me to have felt good for so many years at a time in between times where I felt bad (if that makes sense). I would have bad times whenever I was under stress, and would be normal (at least normal for me since I don't really know what normal really is ... everything I do always has taken an effort) when I wasn't under stress.

Rhonda, it is good to have a good day. I'm pretty much a perfectionist (or as Susan would say, a Stepford Wife  ), so I'm cleaning ... I can finally use my kids' bathroom! It's on the first floor, so I always go upstairs to our bathroom!!

I went to the basement for the first time in a long time to wash some towels ... the kids normally do the laundry (Adam doesn't want me to use what little energy I usually have doing laundry), so I never see the basement .... well, the kids definately have some work to do when they get home!!! Uh, oh Mom feels good enough to make us clean!!!

I read the quote, but not the link ... I didn't notice the link, so I'll have to look at it later ... can't right now.

I knew you'd relate somewhat to that one!!

It would be interesting if you could post your so we could see them next to Rhonda's and Rachel's. Did you see how Andrea put them all together? I know it would take some time to do, but if you had the time it would be interesting to see (especially since I am waiting for my results!).

AndreaB Contributor

Miamia,

Please post your results if you can.

I will put them with Rachel and Rhonda's......Carla, I'll add yours once you get them and post them.

You may see why I and other borreliosis clinicians do not agree with using the CDC criteria in everyday medical practice. Other bacteria besides Borrelia burgdorferi may produce the 45, 58, 66, and 73 kDa bands. These bands may be produced by Borrelia burgdorferi, but are not nearly as specifically associated with Lyme borreliosis as the starred bands. These starred bands are classic hallmark borrelia-associated antigen-antibody complexes.

An example of the CDC's criteria of a blot test, is if a patient has the band pattern of 41, 45, 58, 66, and 93, the CDC would call it positive. But if a patient has a 23-25, 31, 34, and 39 band pattern, they would call it negative. This is despite the fact that this second pattern of antigen-antibody complex bands is much more specifically associated with Borrelia burgdorferi than the first pattern.

Miamia,

I'm no expert by any means but with the color coding you look pretty positive to me.

That would also explain alot of your sensitivities.

Carla, maybe you can pm her that doctor in NY you learned about. :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Andrea, there are three people, but the numbers are four across, I'm confused.

Miamia, let me know if you want the name of the doctor. He's in Hyde Park and is Lyme Literate.

I take both Benfotiamine and TTFD.   You might want to start with the Benfotiamine for a few days and then add in the TTFD.   You can look for NeuroMag (Magnesium Threonate).  A magnesium glycinate is fine, too.  Doctor's Best is a good brand.  Don't take more than 300mg total per day of magnesium or it may have a laxative effect.   Be sure to take the B Complex.  The Benfotiamine and TTFD will need the other B vitamins.

Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine has 100MG of Ben and 25 of Thia..... Do you think this is the one I should take or Objective Nutrients Thiamax (TTFD) which has 100MG Thiamine. How much magnesium should I look for? I take the womens 50+ multivitamin since consumerlabs stated and tested that it has the right amount of vitamins and not too much for men and doesn't have BHT which has shown to cause liver cancer in animals. I was never big with multivitamins as well as doctors I just read when I was first going gluten free to take a multi but I think I will stop them and work on trying the super B Thia and Ben, Mag.

Hi all I’ve been celiac for 4 years now, I’ve done pretty well to avoid it thus far. Last night I took the wrong pizza out of the freezer and ate the whole lot!! The non gluten and gluten pizza boxes are both very similar.   2 hours later I was throwing up violently on my hands and knees over the loo.  .horrendous stomach pains,  My hair was wet from sweat every part of my body was wet. What an awful experience, just had a bad headache today  fortunately.    Is their any products/pills anyone takes if they have realised they have just been glutened to make the symptoms a little less worse.  thanks
    • knitty kitty
Yes, do take your B Complex with Benfotiamine or Thiamax.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins in the B Complex to make energy and enzymes, so best to take them together earlier in your day.  Taking them too close to bedtime can keep you too energetic to go to sleep.   The Life Extension Benfotiamine with Thiamine is Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride, another form of thiamine the body likes.  The Thiamine HCl just helps the Benfotiamine work better.   Read the label for how many milligrams are in them.  The Mega Benfotiamine is 250 mgs.  Another Benfothiamine has 100 mgs.  You might want to start with the 100 mg.    I like to take Thiamax in the morning with a B Complex at breakfast.  I take the Benfotiamine with another meal.  You can take your multivitamin with Benfotiamine at lunch.   Add a magnesium supplement, too.  Thiamine needs magnesium to make some important enzymes.  Life Extension makes Neuro-Mag, Magnesium Threonate, which is really beneficial.  (Don't take Magnesium Oxide.  It's not absorbed well, instead it pulls water into the digestive tract and is used to relieve constipation.)  I'm not a big fan of multivitamins because they don't always dissolve well in our intestines, and give people a false sense of security.  (There's videos on how to test how well your multivitamin dissolves.).  Multivitamins don't prevent deficiencies and aren't strong enough to correct deficiencies.   I'm happy you are trying Thiamax and Benfotiamine!  Keep us posted on your progress!  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have.
    • xxnonamexx
I looked further into Thiamax Vitamin B1 by objective nutrients and read all the great reviews. I think I will give this a try. I noticed only possible side affect is possibly the first week so body adjusts. Life Extensions carries Benfotiamine with Thiamine and the mega one you mentioned. Not sure if both in one is better or seperate. some reviews state a laxative affect as side affect. SHould I take with my super B complex or just these 2 and multivitamin? I will do further research but I appreciate the wonderful explanation you provided on Thiamine.
