You and the erudite? Is that what you said?:lol:

 I did say erudite. one of my favorite words. Pronounced AIR-yoo-dite......means quite well-read and scholarly. ;) We really only need a little bit of that though, too much and men just become too difficult for us to manage (can you say, SUSAN'S DAD??? God rest his soul).

Andrea - - wow, Talitha DOES sound like a handful. Since I"m not a parent, I of course have nothing to say.....I don't know whether that is from metals or foods or...what. but I have faith that you'll figure it out. :) And certainly with the help of all the erudite ones on here.

:)

OMGosh...I'm wearing the most posh flip flops. remember the furry bathrobe I bought a few months ago...these are made out of the same plush stuffed animal type fur and are so very comfy...I'm in heavan right now! Plus the bright bubble gum pink looks oh so marvey with my lime green toes! Speaking of lime green toes...I made a point of asking my mother what she thought of them...her response... "Oh my" Denise at BioSET loved them. :P

We did the second half of the food additives today...still had a full glass. She was also amazed that she had to press the probe thingy on my palm very hard. So hard that I had a little hole there for a while. :( She asked if my energy was always that low and I said yes...so she did some cross checking for exhaustion...nothing came up so then she asked if I sleep well. Um NO. So she did some cross checking with insomnia and bingo stuff came up. I think I was treated for whatever it was that came up so hopefully I'll sleep good tonight.

My ART session was good too. The viral infection that was found last time is gone, but he still found bacterial and fungal problems. I asked if the bacteria could be the lyme and he said no...lyme wasn't included in that bacterial slide. Lyme was big time again and it is still affecting my thyroid.

Scatology warning...

Do you remember a few dozen pages back when the Expl D started...I thought it might be the essential fatty acid supplements. Well I mentioned that to him and he tested and sure enough, it was really bad. It was totally blocking my energy. I haven't taken that in 3 days now and I haven't had the Expl D either.

The scatology alert has now ended.

I am going to start taking the chlorella again, but will start with only half the amount I was taking before. It still shows up as important.

So far the only thing I've been taking for the lyme was Transfer Factor, so he checked a few more things and found a couple of herbals that would work for me. I'll be alternating those two...two weeks on one, then two weeks on another.

The digestive enzymes everyone wants me to take didn't test well either...he tested a couple that might work so I may give those a try in a few weeks.

Still have two more supplements to add from Dr. S's list, then have to find two more from that list. Took a new one off that list today...we'll see how that goes.

Carla - I actually like broccoli, so the carlaing really does apply. :P

I think most of us just plain suffer from lack of restraint.

Does seem to be a theme with us doesn't it. :P It's obvious I don't think about reactions whilst racheling...Bumble Bars, Lays potato chips...

Okay guys, I tend to be a perfectionist. Adam would say we lived in a model home prior to my being ill. So, as soon as I feel a bit better, off to clean I go! Our bedroom is the finished attic of our house ... probably 1200 sq. ft. ... it's not all one big room, it's like a master suite/hideaway ... I can't wait to get our disgusting bathroom redone, then it will be like a spa! Anyway, I dusted, vacuumed and mopped the whole thing today! Had to take a LOT of breaks ... but it's done (except for the bathroom).

I am a perfectionist with just about everything EXCEPT my house...darn thing can fall down around me and have dust up to my chin. :P:ph34r:

I'm so-o-o glad I don't have to deal with all that period-related stuff anymore!

You and me both!!! Best thing that ever happened to me. :P

It seemed like something was wrong w/ the scatology talk so I looked it up in my Webster's.

It doesn't mention science.

Says "obsession w/ excrement".

Just an FYI

But yes, we are a little obsessed! (rightly so, of course)...... but Murph, I am sure you are aware, any time "ology" is added to the end of a word, it means, the study of. I briefly researched the root word SCAT, but ran out of time.....will do later. ;) I am obsessed with words, dontcha know.

well, where has the day gone? It's now only a half an hour until Prairie Home Companion, must find a cool place to lie down and listen....now where it that shirtless man to fan me and provide my eats and serve mint juleps? Will have to settle for the mellifluous voice of Mr. Keillor. Hehe I was wondering whether I shoulda mentioned that my handy paperback dictionary was a couple decades old. It doesn't show a 2nd def.

But still I think the far more common usage is towards obsession rather than study.

Nevertheless I stand corrected. :)

Hi Murph - -- words definitely do take on different meanings and intonation over the years. I shall have to go look at my HUGE webster's from 1960, and see what that says.

More etymology of scatology (and another interesting French Acadian word I'd never heard of, at the top of this article):

I'd like to say I'm just short of 'obsessed w/ words', but I might be unequivocally obsessed. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of pet peeves about language - lately it's newspeople on tv saying "an historic". Stupid to have this nonsense bother me, huh?

Dear Mia,

I know the sugar is really bad for me. I am trying to cut it out. I did not rachel any cookies today! I racheled like a pound of Ore-Ida Fries! That is all I ate all day! I am good now. I need to reduce my sugar intake again before it is too late! I know the Candida likes it too much.

You sure have a busy week ahead! I have an appointment the 5th, but that is it. I do need to call Monday to make sure about the time, though. I am glad you get to have the Mayan massage! Let us know how all of the appointments go!

Dear Donna,

I love your use of scatology! That is so funny! I am also glad you found out what was causing the D. Those EFAs do not always set well with everyone. I do not tolerate oil of any kind.

I cannot believe you used to get up at 3:30am to exercise! I always worked out in the evenings. When I was a teenager, I used to be able to workout for two hours every night! Now, I am lucky to get off of the sofa some days without putting forth extreme effort! I miss being able to do more things.

Dear Patti,

Most of my symptoms are digestive as well. They are the most difficult to deal with. I often fear eating or doing anything because of it. Having low blood sugar on top of this is such a cruel joke! Then add the Candida in there, and it is worse! I do have body pain, though on top of a ton of other issues.

Dear Carla,

I was good and Carlaed the chocolate chips the other day! :) Instead of eating a bunch and not being careful, I treated myself to a little of them. I let myself have a Tablespoon or so. I did not eat any more than that. I was good. You would be proud! ;)

I must say that I feel worse at various time of the day. I have been a night owl for half of my life. However, I used to be a morning person as a child. As I got older, I preferred staying up late and waking up late. Now my body is so messed up, every couple of weeks my body changes its sleeping schedule. It is like I am on swing shift or something.

Your new house sounds like it is shaping up! I am glad you got so much done! I wish I could say the same for my school work! At least I know I am not the only one having trouble getting caught up. This Finance course is a royal pain! I feel like I am going crazy! So does everyone else in our class! I am also glad the sauna will be fixed soon. You mentioned that the panel in yours was messed up.

Dear Rachel,

The information on herxes sounds like what I have read as well. The bad bugs die, and they cause you to temporarily feel worse. That is very common. It happens with yeast, too. In fact, that is actually where I heard about it first.

We are relieved to hear you will not overdo the sauna! We do not want you sicker! That would certainly set you back. I am sure your doctor will be glad, too! Let us know when it gets there!

You were talking about hallucinating odors. I do that, too! I smell bananas for some reason all the time. That is so strange! I wonder what causes that? My mom wears perfume all of the time, maybe the exposure to that is what is causing it.

Dear Judy,

I cannot believe you went to the ratemypoo.com site!:P I would never go there! I suppose it is that morbid curiousity. We all have it. Just with different things!

Dear Susie,

Hello Squats With Wolves! Hey, that could be your Native American name! I cannot believe you went to that ratemypoo.com site either! I am not going there! I have absolutely no desire to see a piece of poo molded into a peace sign! I am a hippie at heart, but I have my limits! When you were talking about having to go Number 2 in the snow, I started laughing thinking about Tird Cicles! You would have frozen tirds!

I know how you feel with the monthly blues. I hate those! I have had a period off and on for over two years now! I have no idea what is the trouble. I might have fibroids or something. Who knows?

Before I was on Depo-Provera, it was regular like clockwork, but the pain would be excruciating all the way from my uterus down into my rectum. That was the first three days of my period, and I would not be able to stand up straight. I also bled like a stuffed pig. I would go through a super plus tampon in an hour. I had cysts, and had to be put on Depo for them. It is the only thing that kept them away.

I was doing fine, until about 2 years ago. That is when all of this bleeding off and on began. No one has a clue why it started. Don't you just love how doctors have so many answers? What the heck did they go to school all these years for?

Dear Bev,

I am glad you got a good laugh! That was the point! I feel even if I had a bad day, if I can make humor of it, then it is better. Yep, a friend of mine from high school started the a**cracker thing. He got into some bad stuff, and I had to end our friendship. It was sad, because I found out last year that he died. :(

You how you were talking about the full moon and the Earth, and how it effects us? That is something witches know very well. The full moon is the high tide of psychic power. Also, there are biorhythmns. They are your own personal energy levels spiritually and physically.

Dear Murph,

Thank you for the dictionary information! It is always nice to learn more! We are a silly group! Our words do not always match definitions. We kind of have our own interpretation of things! Welcome to the thread!

Dear Andrea,

I am sorry to hear things have been so difficult between you and Talitha. Hopefully the situation will improve soon.

I was a strong-willed child as well. My father and I are more alike, so he knew how to handle me better. He knew all I wanted was respect.

However, there are limits. If I was wrong, my parents did punish me. I did not respond to punishments like other children. They had to take away things I enjoyed. I was not allowed to go play outside with my friends, or watch t.v. for a week if I was being too difficult.

It sounds to me that Talitha is very sensitive, like I am and was. I had some OCD tendencies when I was young, like I could not stand to have sticky hands. There were other things that bothered me and still do. Sounds are stronger than they are to others. Some of this could be sensory overload. I also have always had a bad temper. My father and grandfather are like that as well.

Sincerely,

Jin

It's proper to use either "a" or "an" before "historic". It's more traditional to use "an" but more common today to use "a". It's because the "h" used to be silent, now we pronounce it.

Murph - from what I remember about "an" or "a" before the H (glottal sound in linguistics - - I am such a geek), that is really all about preference - but A historic is much more common. oh.....I am bugged by SO many spoken errors by newscasters, I can relate......number one being "the SierraS" - plural - when it is The Sierra.....argh! and we live right at the freakin base of it.....

thanks for the site - - you should not have told me - could spend hours there  What part of the country are you in? "an historic" with the n pronounced is definitely more British.......we dont' hear it much in Central CA.

Thank you all for your advice and the dermatitis herpetiformis article. The latter made me realise I had stopped taking my antihistamine, which I will restart today. The Dapsone has cleared the rash entirely but I still get quite a bit itching, absolutely nothing to see though. I know its notoriously hard to clear and its still relatively early days for me.  The iodine issue is very interesting. I do eat quite a bit of salt because I have Addison's disease and sodium retention is an issue. I also have autoimmune hypothyroidism, not sure how a low iodine diet would play into that? Because of my Addison's I am totally steroid dependent, I take steroids 4 x daily and cannot mount any defence against inflammation. I need to increase my meds for that. Now that I know what is wrong I can do just that if Im having a bad day. Life is very sweet, just so damn complicated sometimes! Hey ho, onwards. Thank you again for your advice.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you
