I sincerely doubt that you'll change anyone's mind. I think the best bet for you is to remind yourself that YOU are taking care of YOU the best way you know how. It's their problem if they don't want to open their minds to celiac. They're adults. And when was being a princess a bad thing? (think of the bumpersticker "you say b***h like it was a bad thing!?" I wish you a good time anyhow, and pray for no CC.

As an Italian male... I can say I agree with Nettiebeads, your not gonna convince them. :(

Hi C--One Italian girl to another--The only thing you can do is show them how you have everything under control. Just do what you need to do like bring in your own food, check on how they handle it--and OWN the whole thing! It's all in the attitude :D . Hard headed is right--I've got lots of relatives like that! Can't tell them nothing. Anyway, have a wonderful time--so you're going to have to Tivo The Sopranos? :o

DH's family is Italian and I find the best way to deal with them is just ignore their ignorance. Sure I try and educate them (but after they've offered every dessert on the table twice you kinda catch on that it's a lost cause). Then I just laugh my butt off after we leave reliving all the idiotic questions and comments they made during the visit. I am really lucky that DH is one of my biggest supporters helping educate family and friends - so he laughs along with me. I think this past Easter we spent an entire hour car ride home cracking up at the stupidity.

I am so glad that you had such a wonderful time and that your cousin really, really listened to you. Who knows, but you might have helped some of your relatives. I would love to hear about the bouquet - how many did you stomp to get it :rolleyes:

It sounds like a wonderful wonderful day for you (and I'm sure the bride had a good time too). You've turned into quite the ambassador for celiac. And I hope your cuz can fatten you up!! (married?) So when do we plan YOUR wedding? :P

So glad you had a great time--it sounded wonderful :D And BTW, what is that with Italians and "the wooden spoon"? My grandmother used to 'threaten' us with it--but never did anything! ;)

Glad you had a good time...it's about time you have a good time. I am one-fourth Napledon and one-fourth Sicilian (other side is Scotch/German/English-maybe Irish that's questionnable) but I grew up with the Italian side. People look at me weird when I tell them I am part Italian because I have milk colored skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. I definitely recall the wooden spoon. Does anyone remember the older ladies who used to do the "eyes" prayers when someone was sick?

So you caught the bouquet? I don't know if it means automatic get married, but I'd be more inclined to believe it if you tell us you're married within the year. ..I can hear your family now "Yea, but is he Italian?" You're going to have to snag Dr. Fasano for them.....

Oh I [giggle] want to put it on the record; my next hubby is going to be a doctor this time.

He will be a Gastroenterologist -- I can just feel it. [giggle]

Could you see it now?

Think about it -- pretty funny stuff.

Someone who could know you inside and out?

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
