Hi-we are going on vacation to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee next week. This will be our first vacation since our little one was diagnosed with Celiac disease and we were wondering if anyone knew of any restaurants in that area we could take him to or any bakeries, etc? We are traveling from Ohio to Tennessee, so if anyone knows of any stops we should make let us know. We live in a small town where Celiac is unheard of- no specialty shops or bakeries, etc. Thanks for your help!

I visit the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge often and have had many good experiences. Mostly, we stay a few miles into the mountains in Gatlinburg (about 5 miles from Pigeon Forge) but if you are staying in Pigeon Forge you should have a great experience as well.

Please note, that I am not very sensitive and I don't ask a lot of questions of the wait staff. Normally I stick to ordering safe food, and don't demand a lot from the kitchen (washed bowls, washed utensils, etc. and all the other crap they don't understand and don't care about).

Some of the restaurants I have had good experiences in:

Calhoun's (one in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg). Their B-B-Q seems to be safe, I usually order steak calhoun or the like marinated in the B-B-Q sauce...steamed broccoli w/almonds...salad w out croutons, etc.

We ate last month at one of the dinner & show type places...The Black Bear Jamboree. It was great, plain food, roasted chicken, potatoes, etc. There was some B-B-Q chicken that I avoided because of the sauce, but I did not have any problems.

Damon's in Sevierville (attached to PForge) had an easy menu.

There are several other chain restaurants in the area...Outback, O'Charley's, etc.

Hope that helps, if you have never been to the area you are in good shape...there are a TON of restaurants.
