anyone try these products? I really want there hot cereal it sound so good i miss oatmeal so much. I almost got it then i was reading the back and it says that there products are gluten free by a part per million test..... so i was not sure if i really wanna be eating it

I personally haven't tried anything from Bob, but there have been several threads I noticed about concerns with cc and his products. I think the results have been a mixed bag, some react and some have no problems.

I have tried their hot cereals and haven't had any problems, but I didn't have any obvious symptoms when I went gluten free. My daughter has become more sensitive though. She got glutened a couple weeks ago.

I have tried several times a hot cereal by Erewhon. It's called Brown Rice Cream and it's gluten-free. The only ingredient is Organic Brown Rice. It isn't the "oatmeal" that you are looking for, it's more like cream of wheat.

Have you tried Ancient Harvest Quinoa Flakes?

I haven't actually eaten them yet as a hot cereal but they are delicious in breads & cookies. They look like a miniature oatmeal flake, & definitely add some of that yummy oatmeal texture in cooking, so if I were you I'd give them a try.

I do love hot oatmeal too but only in cool weather, & we haven't had much of that lately! (I'm in NC.)

Hope they do the trick!

bob's red mill has two factories - one is gluten free, the other isn't. some gluten free grains are made in the gluten factory, so make sure you don't get those (corn meal, carob are two i remember). i got very sick from both.

however, i have never gotten ill from anything from his gluten-free factory, and i am very sensitive. i use all his products for baking, and often.

Bob's Mighty Tasty gluten-free Hot Cereal is pretty good - heartier than just cream of rice or grits. I haven't noticed any reaction to it myself, so if you're willing to take a chance, I think it's a good hot cereal.

I got a bunch of samples of this recently, but I've been too nervous to try them... I may have to give it a shot because I like a good hot cereal in the mornings and I can't afford to replace the Barkat Porridge right now... (after shipping and handling it's over $11 for one tiny box)... eek. Soooooo seriously considering trying the Bob's Red Mill hot cereal...

nini - i promise you, i am very sensitive and have never reacted to anything by bob's except for the products that i mis-read as literally gluten free, but not made in their gluten free facility. free samples = great!

When I was eating grains, I really liked Cream of Rice. I would put maple syrup, walnuts and cinnamon on it. I never had a gluten issue with it.

I seem to react to very small amounts, but have not reacted to any Bob's stuff. Some of Bob's gluten-free stuff has a big mention of it being gluten-free on the label and others, like corn meal, seem gluten-free, but don't have a symbol on the front. I think that's the stuff that isn't produces in a gluten-free factory.

I also have not had problems with Arrowhead Mills stuff.

I second Ancient Harvest Quinoa Flakes. I love them - but I have had several people mention they can smell them (when I make them - at work, etc) and that the smell is odd to them, and then they don't want to try them. I admit I notice a distinct scent, but it isn't off-putting to me.

matilda - have you tried the kasha (as opposed to buckwheat flakes)? those are the only ones my mom will eat.

      Okay that is really good to know. So with that being positive and the other being high it makes sense she diagnosed her even without the endoscopy. So glad we caught it early. She had so many symptoms though that to me it was clear something was wrong.   yeah I think we had better test us and the other kids as well.

      @GlorietaKaro, your respiratory reactions to gluten make me wonder if there might also be an allergic (anaphylaxis) component at work here.

      Thanks to both of you for your responses!  Sadly, even after several years of very strict gluten avoidance, I remember the symptoms well enough that I am too frightened to risk a gluten challenge— heartbeat and breathing problems are scary— Scott, thank you for the specific information— I will call around in the new year to see if I can find anyone. In the meantime, I will carry on has I have been— it’s working! Thanks also for the validation— sometimes I just feel crushed by disbelief. Not enough to make me eat gluten though—
