This morning I found a new way to get my iron without taking those darn pills :D

We stopped into the clubhouse after our round of golf and were standing by the chocolate bars, so I picked up a Cadbury 'dark chocolate with almonds' and was reading the label ... it is gluten free... but it also says 24% of your daily allowable iron! So, I think I should just eat two or three chocolate bars a day :lol::lol: BTW, it also has calcium :rolleyes: How healthy is that??? :lol:

a lot of nuts and seeds are good sources too. bumble bars (practically candy to me) - 20% calcium and 10 or 20% iron

don't want to spoil your fun, but last time I had some Cadbury's Dairy Milk, I noticed that it said it may contain traces of wheat. It's made me wary of eating Cadbury's again. Anyways, black pudding contains far more iron, so we should be eating loads of that...I did when I was pregnant as I got really anemic, but can't stomach the idea of it now :ph34r:

I didn't see anything like that on the label, I wonder if there is a difference between products from the UK & Canada. I know there is a difference from Canada and the US

Are all their bars gluten-free or just some? I think I got a free sample at a meeting and now I haven't looked for them but they are very good. I had no idea they had that much calcium and iron which I need. I need to get a stock of them when I find them.

Just remember that you need vitamin C to help absorb iron. It's not enough to just get the iron into your body - you have to be able to assimilate it.

If you want an even better source than those bars, check out spinach:

Just remember that you need vitamin C to help absorb iron. It's not enough to just get the iron into your body - you have to be able to assimilate it.

Ahhh, but you are right of course ... it's just that spinach isn't nearly as yummy or fun to eat :lol: I really did start this thread as a 'fun' way of looking at nutrients.
