Hoffner's Pita Flats

I've learned not to expect the world from gluten free foods.

But I found these frozen pita flats at a specialty store the other day,a nd thought I'd try them. Now I wish I'd bought several boxes! Yum!

I just heated one up in the oven for a few minutes and then put some mayo, ham and cheese on it and let it heat through some more.

Just thought I'd put the word out there -

Courtney

^_^ Ooo. Sounds yummy. What store did you find them in?

. . . and btw, Hoffner's should pay you for their new slogan!

I definately want some royalties. :P

I found them in a small specialty store called OK-Carbs. I don't recall ever seeing this brand anywhere else, but like all things, gluten-free shopping just seems to blur together sometimes.

I bought those awhile ago from Dietary Shoppe in Philly, but just didn't know what to do with them so I didn't have the motivation to try them yet. Now I want to try them out! (Time to dig into the back of the freezer!)Thanks for the thumbs-up :)

I found their Open Original Shared Link. Now that I've been thinking about it I'm almost sure I've seen Hoffner products in my local health food store. I'll have to stop in later today and check . . . see! The slogan's working already!

Oh I heard about them once before. Never gave them much thought. I think I'll have to give it a try.

Thanks!

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
