:) Omg, I had to get in on this one-I have a friend who swears fried mac and cheese is the greatest food on the planet. She makes the creamy homemade good kind, though. Any leftovers the next day she fries in a pan with butter. Can you say arteriosclerosis?!! Deep fried must mean they make it thick with cheese and make it into a ball? I would think it would look pretty gross... :blink: Plus, wouldn't the grease in the cheese melt and then with the grease on the outside just make it one huge greaseball-y glob? :o

I have seen deep fried tweenkies too, but the strangest thing I ever heard of was batter-dipped deep fried dill pickles. I am ashamed to admit I think I would like the pickles, lol. I think they would maybe taste like fried green tomatoes.

Robbin--I've not seen the stuff personally, I'm told that it is bite-sized "nuggets" of deep fried mac and cheese. All I can think is they must scoop it into the hot fat and fry it up like that :blink:

Before being diagnosed, we had all that deep-fried garbage at our State Fair. Deep fried snickers bars, twinkies, etc. Never tried them, because it just sounded WRONG!!!!! Also thought that it had to be a Kentucky redneck thing . . . . !!!!! :lol: Didn't know that it would be anywhere else . . . We have a restaurant that sells deep-fried pickle chips . . . called "frickled pickles"

I had these pre-gluten-free. They're not great, but they're not as bad as they sound. I never was a breaded and fried lover, if I had been, I'd have loved them.

Ihave had them a few times too. They are not bad. Couple chains down here server them but I forget witch ones.

After seeing how he makes it, I probably would have tried it--once upon a time. Sounds like something that would taste good for the first couple of bites, then get sickish.

One of my favorite appitizers used to be Olive Garden deep fried zucchini slices--they dust them with grated cheese--so good!

Oh, and when I got to college (I moved from NY to AR), I ate at the dining halls. I joked to everyone nothern that they fry everything but the coke!

Apparently fried twinkies are quite the thing at A&M. Gross.

And I loooooove fried pickles, sadly. It was the only thing I'd eat at AQ Chicken House!

Hmm...I should try frying some one day. :)

Hi everybody! Been keeping a low profile here....

Fried pickles.....I REALLY don't get that one at all. Deep fried anything.....so disgusting. I was in the waiting room of the hospital the other day, and there was a family from Holland there, six people, here for three weeks, we chatted a while and they were shocked at the lack of physical activity here.....said something about the option of staying in their rented RV in a church parking lot, less than a mile away. They were astounded that the social worker gave them a phone number for someone to come pick them up.....they said, doesn't anybody WALK here? (nope, no one does, but it's a very spread-out town.) And they commented very delicately on the obesity they've seen in this country.....they were appalled.

I'm pretty sure they don't deep-fry everything in Europe as we do here.....it is truly evil! :blink:

It would be even more noticeable for someone from Holland. :D Since this is such a flat country, and very densely built, meaning in towns distances are very manageable, everybody bikes to places. People might drive to work, or take a train (also very common) but then they might bike to the shops or to the train station or just for fun in the weekend. Or indeed just walk... it's a national pastime apparently (I'm not Dutch!) to take a train to some remote place and then follow a route description you can buy at a tourist office around a nice countryside route either back to the same station or to another one.

I had a couple of visitors from the US once, they were amazed at the masses and masses of bikes that are parked outside of Amsterdam central station. Instead of a car park building, there's a three story structure to park your bike... :blink::D Here in Utrecht their planning to rebuild the station and one of the important planning decisions to make is for how many bikes can they provide space for. :D

Ok, so it's not my native country, but I think this is something the Dutch well deserve to be proud of. :)

      @catnapt,  Wheat germ contains high amounts of lectins which are really hard to digest and can be irritating to the digestive tract.  They can stimulate IgG antibody production as your blood test shows.   Even beans have lectins.  You've simply eaten too many lectins and irritated your digestive tract.   You may want to allow your digestive tract to rest for a week, then start on gluten in "normal" food, not in concentrated vital wheat gluten.       I take Now B-1 (100 mg) Thiamine Hydrochloride, and Amazing Formulas L-Tryptophan (1000 mg).   Both are gluten free and free of other allergens.  I've taken them for a long time and haven't had a problem with them. I take Vitamin A from BioTech called "A-25".  It's gluten and allergen free and made in the USA.  It's a powder form of Vitamin A.  I was having trouble digesting fats at one point, but found I tolerated the powder form much better and have stuck with it since.   Tryptophan and Vitamin A help heal the intestines as well as improves skin health.  I get Dermatitis Herpetiformis and eczema flairs when my stomach is upset.  So I'm healing the outside as well as the inside.   I take one 1000 mg Tryptophan before bedtime.   With the Thiamine HCl, take 100 mg to start.  If you don't notice anything, three hours later take another. You can keep increasing your dose in this manner until you do notice improvement.  Remember not to take it in the evening so it won't keep you too energized to sleep. When I first started Thiamine HCl, taking 500 mg to 1000 mg to start was recommended.  If you've been thiamine insufficient for a while, you do notice a big difference.  It's like the start of a NASCAR race: Zoom, Zoom, turn it up!   This scared or made some people uncomfortable, but it's just your body beginning to function properly, like putting new spark plugs in your engine.  I took 1000 mg all at once without food.  It kicked in beautifully, but I got a tummy ache, so take with food.  I added in Thiamine TTFD and Benfotiamine weeks later and felt like I was Formula One racing.  So cool.  You may feel worse for a couple days as your body adjusts to having sufficient thiamine.  Feels sort of like you haven't cranked your engine for a while and it backfires and sputters, but it will settle down and start purring soon enough.  Adjust your dose to what feels right for you, increasing your dose as long as you feel improvement.  You can reach a plateau, so stay there for several days, then try bumping it up again.  If no more improvements happen, you can stay at the plateau amount and experiment with increasing your Thiamine TTFD.  It's like being your own lab rat.  LoL Yes, take one Benfotiamine at breakfast and one at lunch.  Take the B Complex at breakfast. Take the TTFD at breakfast and lunch as well.  I like to take the vitamins at the beginning of meals and the NeuroMag at the end of meals.   You may want to add in some zinc.  I take Thorne Zinc 30 mg at breakfast at the beginning of the meal.   Are you getting sufficient Omega Threes?  Our brains are made up mostly of fat.  Flaxseed oil supplements, sunflower seed oil supplements (or eat the seeds themselves) can improve that.  Cooking with extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil is also helpful.   @Wheatwacked likes phosphotidyl choline supplements for his Omega Threes.  He's also had dramatic health improvement by supplementing thiamine.  You're doing great!  Thank you for sharing your journey with us.  This path will smooth out.  Keep going!

      good luck! vital wheat gluten made me violently ill. I will touch the stuff ever again.

      I wouldn't consider this lucky. I can NOT tolerate the symptoms. And I googled it and I was not even getting 10 grams of gluten per day and I was extremely ill. They'd have to put me in the hospital. I'm not kidding.   I will have my first appt with a GI dr on March 4th   I will not eat gluten again - at least not on purpose   they are going to have to come up with a test that doesn't require it.

      What Thiamine Hydrochloride brand do you take? Is it like the other vitamins I have added? What brand Tryptophan and amount do you take. Thanks
