Hmmm, rice or almond milk for the milk, but NOTHING is as yummy, rich, fatty or decadent as real whipped cream.

I've only been a lurker on this thread, but had to come share your pain about no eggnog at Christmas. I haven't had eggnog for 10 Christmases and for some reason was just talking about it yesterday and feeling sorry for myself. Do you think there's any way to make "fakenog" with almond milk, thickener and spices?

I don't think the Chai-nog mix has any egg in it. It's not listed as an ingredient. It's awesome, no need for cream. I bet rice milk would be fine in it.

It's not egg nog though, it's a chai latte. It does give you a bit of holiday flavor, but it's not eggnog.

That looks good--it would work with Vance's, Im sure. I do a similar thing with Stash's Chai Spice tea, sugar and Vance's. It's pretty good. I do miss the Chai Lattes at Starbucks :(

I think the almond milk may be too much right now for my tender tummy ... I feel nauseous ... not bad, but not as comfortable as I've been feeling lately. Back to meat and veggies :(

Yea, probably too soon :( It takes a lot of time on the whole foods to be able to sneak in a treat. You're able to use the Vance's, right?

Yea, Vance's is fine. So is almond butter. I didn't even think the almond milk would be a problem since both of those are fine! Plus, I eat lots of herbs and spices that you wouldn't think would be good for a tender tummy and do fine with those.

Guess I ought to wait for my coffee, too. :(

I found there was a lot of idle time with homeschooling .... I did lots of computer work (back then I was directing youth groups, I'm on somewhat of a leave of absence right now) during school hours. I couldn't do the phone work, but computer stuff fits in nicely.

Pot Roast sounds delicious Patti!(sorry any veggies).I'm assuming it's what we (Brits) would call a 'roast dinner'.

We have 'a roast' every Sunday with veg and roast potatoes.(I don't know if that's a Brit thing to always have that on Sun? :blink: )

My favourite is roast beef-yum! :P

Sounds like we do our roasts the same way! I brown the meat with chopped onion then add potatoes and carrots and cook slowly in the oven for about 3 hours. Great leftovers, too ;)

My hair is just getting long enough in the back for a clip. I'd like to grow it back out, but have been tempted to have it cut and be done with it. Carla's my support person on this :D When I get weak and threaten to have it cut, she gives me a little "pep talk" :lol: Last night, my husband actually commented on the clip :o

Yea, but you almost snuck in there and got it cut without telling me!!! So, now I know, you really want to grow it out, but it's just at that hideous length that drives you crazy. I think I wore mine up every day at that length (and I'm not judging by your pic, just by your description).

Well, I'm going over to Indiana today to get my hair cut/colored -- at the salon where Morgan works, if you wonder why I still go over there!! I figured with Morgan in school there and since the lady over there who I've been going to for 6 years is so good with color, that I wouldn't change when we moved. So, Adam and I are going over there and spending the night in the guest room of my old sorority house (he always wanted to spend the night there .... I'd never let him :rolleyes: , finally, he gets to!!! :lol: ). They've also been trying to recruit Morgan .... she went over there yesterday to watch Grey's Anatomy with them. Anyway, I'll be gone till late tomorrow. Have a great day guys (that means y'all, Lynne)!

I hope it wasn't due to all this talk of egg nog and ice cream (on OMG).

I'm finally feeling better from my weekend CC. My wife is sick with THE CRUD. (Cough,fever, goobery nose, etc.) She had an awful night last night. Hacking, snoring, snorting it got so bad I had to move to the couch at 2 AM. I asked her how she felt this morning, and she said she had one of her best night's sleep for the week. She was serious! :huh: I mumbled something like, "must be nice" She seems better this morning, so hopefully I can get some sleep tonight. I haven't been sleeping well all week, so i'm dragging, and she's been dragging right behind me. I'm sure it won't be long before I succumb to the crud as well. Boo-hoo :(

I am looking forward to Monday. (I bet that has never been said before) I pick up my gluten-free order and I might take the day off. Our main database is down and to be upgraded, so I'm not doing anything at work anyway. (Hence my frequent postings here) I'll get to spend a daddy-daughter day with Madeline (my 2 1/2 y.o.) We always (like 3x a year!) go to McD's to play on the indoor playground (and get a happy meal). Has anyone evr had to rescue a child from the upper reaches of one of those tube thingys? Now that is entertaining! :P

I think the almond milk, or maybe the tea, it was a different brand. Strange, except for gluten and dairy, my stomach's never been easily upset, that was a totally new thing. I'll see how it goes Sunday, I may still have my coffee.

Yuck! I think it should be a requirement for a kid to spend sometime in one of those places. They get exposed to all those germs, it makes Kindergarten less of a shock to their systems! But oooohhhhh how dirty the socks get! The big up-side is that she will be so worn out after playing that she (we) will take a nice nap later in the day. So it's setting up to be a big day, Donuts (No BEER ;) ), McD's, Playground, nice long nap, maybe play in the leaves. I can't wait for Monday!

      I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

      Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.

      Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!

      Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
