Prenatal Vitamins Revisited...

Ariela

Ariela Newbie

Hi, I was diagnosed with celiac disease 7 weeks ago and have been gluten-free since then. My husband and I are planning to start trying to get pregnant some time soon, and I am now looking for gluten-free prenatal vitamins. I read on this forum that Nature Made Prenatals are gluten-free. However, I just went on their website and saw 'Modified Food Starch' in the list of ingredients. Does anyone have information on this? Thanks.

Ariela

If I was a gambler (which I am not) I would guess that the starch is from corn. However, you really need to call the company to make sure.

I don't know if those are gluten-free or not, but I do know that GNC's are.

I take Perry hypoallergenic prenatal vitamins.

My doctor said that capsules are better than pills and these seem to be complete, capsules and gluten-free.

I tried the GNC prenatals and they kept giving me headaches. I am staying away from them for now until GNC can tell me how they are processed. Sometimes the surfaces are coated with flour to prevent sticking.

I am a fan of Rainbow Light Just Once Prenatal One.

It says right on it that it contains no gluten (and other stuff I don't want). It has ginger in it to help tummies and does not make me burpy.

I picked up my first bottle per a random woman's recommendation in Whole Foods. I was staring at the plethora of bottles and she came by and grabbed that right away. I asked her about and tried it out. I am happy so far. AND. . have since found the same stuff at Target for a lot less bank.

Hi! I just found out that I'm pregnant (yay! after months of trying!), and the nurse wanted to give me a prescription for prenatal vitamins, but she didn't know which ones were gluten-free. She told me to stick with my multivitamins and add more folic acid, but I thought I would check if anyone knew a prescription prenatal brand that is gluten-free or if anyone has an opinion about prescription versus over-the-counter. It's sooo nice to know that others are facing the same issues! Thanks!

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
