Hello from the Lake Trout Capital of the World, or so the sign says <_<:D I live on Seneca Lake midpoint between Rochester and Syracuse. Your near Syracuse right?

Actually, almost exactly 1/2 way betweeen Albany and Binghamton on I-88. We used to go out to Keuka Lake (Penn Yan) to a cousin's cottage as a summer getaway when I was a kid. Nice area out there. I LOVE Bully Hill Wine!

I think I was thinking of Oneida, some of the Indian names get confusing.

Bully Hill is great as a number of other area wines. We are near Naples and they have a wonderful Grape festival every year. I have been told the Italians found it to be much like Italy when they came here and the climate is great for the grape. If I am ever able to take day trips again I would like to do a wine tour myself, there are trains that have recently started runs in season with blues music that sound like fun. I've lived all over the country and upstate NY is one of the prettiest and cheapest places I have lived, as long as you don't mind the NY taxes. Hard to make non NYers understand sometimes that all of NY is not NYC.

Where was your picture taken? It is really pretty, is it the Catskills?

My husband and I are both from Syracuse--our families are still there. We used to have family picnics at Keuka Lake years ago--my mom's family also has people in Owego and Auburn.

Ravenwood--you're so right about how beautiful it is up there--especially this time of year.

I've been to the grapefest in Naples...never knew you could/would make a grape pie!

Pic is from the Catskills last year. I prefer the Adirondacks (call me a mountain snob! :lol: ), but the Catskills are closer (and easier on the knees!).

This is kind of off the topic--but it happened in Syracuse :D And has to do with grapes....

My ex-sister in law <_< once made a "blueberry" pie and brought it to a family dinner. At the time, she was new to the group, so we were all on our best behavior. Anyway, we begin to eat the pie, and crunched into all these little seeds--unexpected because we were thinking blueberries! And you could tell no one wanted to say anything!!

The nut had mistakenly bought grapes instead :blink: --it actually had a good taste, but that texture left a lot to be desired :lol:

One of my ex-girlfiends (a nut herself) pulled a similar stunt with cherries in a cherry pie. She didn't pit them...Ouch

i love niagara on the lake, but can do without the falls. some 'hidden' parts are nice. i live on the canadian side, though. the american side, in my opinion, is really grungy. although i am sure there are hidden parts on there i dont know, too.

Hello all, Im new to all this, and wanted to post a note, just to say hello. Im living in upstate ny, Seneca Falls area... between Rochester and Syracuse... Im excited 'cause after years of symptoms, I finally found a doctor who would do more than tell me to get some fiber and go away... The bloodwork is not in yet, but dr. seems to believe that I have celiac disease... soooo, at least I have a diagnosis....maybe...YEAH!!! Thats half the battle... Now im off to get some gluten free recipes... and just in time for the Hollidays...This is going to be interesting...

Hi and welcome to the board :D Always great to meet a fellow Central New Yorker B)

I'm glad you found a doctor who will listen and work with you--you're right, that's half the battle right there! Yes, read up on the recipes and the products forums--lots of great info there. Good luck on the tests, and feel free to post with any questions you might have. Last year was my first gluten-free, so I know that the holidays can be successfully done on the diet.

Let us know how your tests come out :)

Don't know NY very well, I am originally from Toronto, but now live about 1 hr east of Toronto. The only time I have been to NY is when I played baseball. We used to play tournaments on the weekend, and after playing 3 games on a Saturday, we would go home, shower and change and then drive down to Buffalo to party for the night at a place called "The Library". We had designated drivers so the rest of us could have a blast. We would get home around 3 a.m. and be up at 6:00 a.m. to play a 7:00 a.m. game!!!! Ahhhhh, those were the days!

The only other thing I am aware of in NY is my niece goes to university there, in Ithaca, NY. Anyone near there?

Hi all, I am from Conklin, NY. Did anyone else get hit by the June flood. Boy it is hard being gluten-free in a FEMA trailer. Major break out of DH going on and it is miserable. Almost back in the house though

Studies have linked potassium bromide to kidney, thyroid, and gastrointestinal cancers. A ban on it in goes into effect in California in 2027. I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor. Sourdough...

      same! how amazing you have a friend who has celiac disease. i find myself wishing i had someone to talk about it with other than my partner (who has been so supportive regardless)

      need help understanding testing result for Naked Nutrition Creatine please

      They don’t give a sample size (serving size is different from sample size) so it is hard to tell just what the result means. However, the way the result is presented does look like it is below the limit of what their test can measure, so that is good.

Other side effects include gastrointestinal distress. The risk is highest for individuals with pre-existing thyroid conditions, and while dietary iodine rarely reaches toxic levels, unsupervised high-dose supplementation is dangerous and should only be undertaken with medical guidance to avoid serious complications. It's best to check with your doctor before supplementing iodine.

Iodine was used in the US as a dough modifier until the 1970s. Since then iodine intake in the US dropped 50%.  Iodine is essential for thyroid hormones.  Thyroid hormone use for hypothyroidism has doubled in the United States from 1997 to 2016.   Clinical Thyroidology® for the Public In the UK, incidently, prescriptions for the thyroid hormone levothyroxine have increased by more than 12 million in a decade.  The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's official journal Standard thyroid tests will not show insufficient iodine intake.  Iodine 24 Hour Urine Test measures iodine excretion over a full day to evaluate iodine status and thyroid health. 75 year old male.  I tried adding seaweed into my diet and did get improvement in healing, muscle tone, skin; but in was not enough and I could not sustain it in my diet at the level intake I needed.  So I supplement 600 mcg Liquid Iodine (RDA 150 to 1000 mcg) per day.  It has turbocharged my recovery from 63 years of undiagnosed celiac disease.  Improvement in healing a non-healing sebaceous cyst. brain fog, vision, hair, skin, nails. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis celiac disease experience exacerbation of the rash with iodine. The Wolff-Chaikoff Effect Crying Wolf?
