Tom, house looks great. We have 8 people living under one roof ... any house for one seems very spacious! That house would rent for about $850 around here ... can't imagine how much it will be in CA! And we're in a high-rent area because of school districts.

To get a house, I'll have a roommate. Luckily he's a bit of a neatnik - the other guy at apt was the slob - and already agreed to even keep cologne in the car!

The slob was full-time SJ, while John is gone on biz 3wks/mo.

It was only a couple blocks from where I last lived in SJ, so I already know the pros/cons and that the pros easily win, location-wise.

We were selling our old house and someone was very interested. I looked up their house in CA that was listed for the same as ours was. Ours had 19 acres, an acre and a half stocked pond, 4 bedrooms, three and a half baths, really nice kitchen, full basement, etc.

Theirs was a 3 brm./1 bath, tiny yard, tiny house.

Amazing that the prices can vary so much.

Sorry the roommate doesn't like it. The location sounded great ... you can make some sacrifices to have a good location.

well HALLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo sillies!!! I am back, but I am absolutely beat. I was not taking into consideration the bad back w/ the thermarest pad....I will definitely need something much more comfy than that to ever camp again. am in pretty serious pain today and have taken second muscle relaxant, am about to take second Naproxen for the day.

The weekend was glorious, absolutely perfect weather, sailing, eating, drinking good wine, dingo-wrangling. dear friends were there and after sailing we laughed into the night over homemade roasted marshmallows (yup, I made 'em ) about the silliest of things. The dogs were dream girls, and there were yellow dogs in all the campsites around us....Rocky was a bigger and nearly identical version of Stinker - - I"ll post his pic. Both girls were SWOONING over him. We had a HUGE campsite to ourselves, with plenty of wilderness around it for the girls to romp. Um, Stinker, however, is like a senile convalescent patient that you have to keep an eye on.....she is about 50% deaf and pretty confused, wandered off several times in her happy little mountain reverie, tail-wagging smile and all.

and that is ALL I am going to say about my weekend for now but - - lest you get all crazy and titillated and overexcited - - please know that it was very wholesome. Not kidding. Sheesh. Get your dirty dingo minds out of the gutter, wouldja? harrumph.

For now, I am spinached to the couch.....we stayed a third night and I think that was a mistake for my back AND my brain.......not enough good sleep and I am RUBBISH.

My buddy John talked to one guy in Willow Glen doing a short-term rental who was going to sell afterwards. John thought guessing "close to a mil" was overestimating slightly, but it was going to list for $1.9M !!!!!

Our little Willow Glen neighborhood is rightfully higher than most of SJ. Lotta very nice med-Lg houses, but lotta those little ones too. The house in my pic elsewhere in SJ could rent for $1500 or even $1300.

Seconds later, his phone goes dead.

A minute later, I txt "are you being dragged to the incinerator?"

Some houses have no need for a place to *hide* the parts!

Talked & laughed 30-40min w/ a Michelle I just met. Was sure it should continue over drink or dinner @ next door Caffe Boa or sushi next to that. <buzzer> boyfriend.

She did give kudos for my asking, and conversation continued.

Coffeehouse tonight - I'm heading out but this cello/piano duo starts playing and I get chills just 2 1/2 measures in. I stay for 2+ hrs. Still had goosebumps an hour later. Got to sit closer to cello than HE was to his piano-playing brother. (Actually they switch instr every song!!)

Great kids - talked to them quite a while.

I wasn't a real classical fan and they're asking ME to pick betw Schubert & Tchaikovsky for the last song!!

I'm certainly now at least a fan of sitting NEXT TO a cello being masterfully played. Intense and beautiful and a zillion other superlatives.

I honestly don't remember. Someone else ended up buying that house. Our house was in the middle of nowhere, so it was inexpensive even for out here. It was 5 miles from the nearest stoplight, then another five miles to the next one.

It was outside Bloomington, IN ... you'd LOVE that place, Tom. Music, music, music. Many little independent restaurants ... one - Nick's- even has a meal called "the Kate" named after a woman on this board. Just so long as the chef is there, you can just order "the Kate" and it will be free of about everything because Kate is sensitive to everything. Plus, there's a Cheeseburger in Paradise that has a gluten-free menu and Mojitos, live music, too!

We own a couple rentals ... both are three brm/one bath ... they are small, can't remember the sq. footage, maybe 1000. We get 850-925 for them (one is nicer than the other). One was under $100k when we bought it, the other was just over.

For a million, you are in an ostentatious mansion. I'd rather spread that million over a bunch of properties that generate income. Well, I'd also have to, LOL.

Camping w/ us was one of my best friends in all the world, friend from high school and her husbnad. Her name is Karen, but I have always called her Karenly, not sure why but the -ly suffix as we know makes it an adverb, meaning "in a Karen manner." they are a hoot, we laughed our arses off whilst sailing and I kept doing a Homer Simpson scream (the lake was savage with wind) from glee, didn't know I was doing it but they said I sounded like Homer (I have never actually watched an entire Simpsons episode or any parts thereof, really).
