Torture, indeed. but useful, perhaps?

and here's something to ponder......

why is it that knickers are called "underwear" in the US, and not knickers? Knickers here refers to.....well, those kinds of pants that pilgrims wore, maybe, that ended just below the knee?

wait......what ARE knickers here?

and just WHO decided and at WHAT time that Americans would no longer use the term knickers but underwear or underpants or panties for the unmentionables? You know I really would sit and research this now but am heading into make some bread and then a necklace and well, my neck and back are killing me and also I have a GAS BOMB that was the size of Texas when I awoke this morning (but is now perhaps the size of - New Hampshire maybe?)

Indeed much knicker pondering and musing

Here (uk) it's underwear, knickers for girls, pants for blokes (as in y fronts  ) or boxers for blokes (jockeys?)

I always imagined the knicker to the knee is a pantaloon or bloomers -- (gotta try them - are we talking ultimate comfort but total complete and utter passion killers?:lol: )

But would one wear a thong under said bloomers? Indeed, pure comfort, let's just walk around in pantaloons. Methinks one wore what we call pantaloons in this country in the era of "Gone with the Wind" and such, under those big horrid hoop skirts. (of course, the hoop skirt certainly could hide all sorts of ills - big butts, gas-bloated bellies, knocked knees, flabby thighs, and the dreaded front-butt)

WE call the men's undies boxers or briefs, as you may know. but not PANTS or Y-pants.

much knicker pondering in a busy afternoon, I run back to the computer in betwixt making a necklace when my eyes strain too much.

a girlfriend has demanded a mojito and is arriving soon.............

Pooh! My recommendation - - Trader Joe's Rice PUdding. OMG, could eat GALLONS of it. Unless of course you must avoid dairy, but I think you're okay with it?

I wouldn't have any trouble gaining weight if I were allowed to have SUGAR!!!! <_<

I do make "fudge" out of coconut oil, raw cacao beans, agave syrup, almond butter, vanilla, and salt. I eat it with a big bowl of berries covered in whipped cream (made from whipping cream and agave syrup).

Darn, I'm out of fudge tonight, I'll have to settle for berries and whipped cream.

of course, the hoop skirt certainly could hide all sorts of ills - gas-bloated bellies

Are you forgetting the corset? Ouch.

Good evening, all, from Cheriton, nr Aylresford!

A beautiful truly English town an hour east of London..just checking up on you all. We've spent an incredible week in London, then two nights here in an Inn that was built in the 16th century, then on to Paris for a week. I miss all your quick wit. Nikki, you have an incredible city here. I love it, and am so glad I came!

Emily, I'm so glad you didn't forget about us during your Europe trip!! How nice! Glad you're having a good time.

Morgan just reminded me ... it's 2PM and I forgot to eat lunch ... if it weren't for all the pills I take in a day, I'd never think of eating!

tom Contributor
Doesn't it depend on what the panty lines look like? I mean, if they're granny panties, do you still get the same thrill seeing the lines?

What the VPL "looks like"? Ah no no, it depends on what the *girl* looks like! :P

Or were you referring to me "mothering" you by telling you to eat right.

Bee Eye En Gee Oh !!

Mmmmmmm I'm at the beautiful park in middle of Los Gatos downtown. <sigh>

Farmer's Market today too.

Might live w/in walking distance soon!!

Been actually surprised that something like that is 'affordable'!! :o:):):);)

Sough-sie? Does the entire "artificial vanilla = gluten" question have to die on the vine?

Will I need to wait thru 20+ pageloads on the ph to try to figure it out for myself?

(I've been a little short on time lately)

oh for the love of............... !!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOM!!!! you HAVE to let that one go....all I know is that I was wildly sick on Tues., and the only new thing was that nut bar. those were the only suspect ingredients.

why oh WHY are you still obsessing over this...............for all I know I picked up a parasite by accidentally drinking the wrong water (from their spigot and not the bottled water we brought)....

:( grrrrr fine . .. . . . droppin' it like a wormy apple.

The thing is, I 85% expect to be able to eat like you and every other 'gluten-free only' celiac before too long. Except that unlike many, I expect to never *get* glutened.

To do this, I'll need to know every possible source of gluten.

A quick look revealed no sign of ppl believing artificial vanilla isn't gluten-free. A few types of gluten-free cookies even include artificial vanilla in them.

Of course besides the practical side of not glutening mySELF someday w/ a nut bar, . . . .I know ya KNOW I can't help but try to solve a puzzle. (dontcha?)

<btw that WAS 30-35% less>

Oh how I wish I was somewhere I had to MIND THE GAP!!!!! yay for travel!

Tom- Sweetness, you must understand my brain hurts ever so much and I can't read anything. Oh the ache!!!!

Here's a silly for you:

The doctor that had been seeing an 80 year old woman for most of her life finally retired.

At her next checkup, the new doctor told her to bring a list of all her medications that had been prescribed for her. As the young doctor was looking through these, his eyes grew wide as he realized she had a prescription for birth control pills.

"Mrs. Smith, do you realize these are BIRTH CONTROL pills?"

"Yes, they help me sleep at night."

"Mrs. Smith, I assure you there is absolutely NOTHING in these that could possible help you sleep."

She reached out and patted the young doctor's knee. "Yes, dear, I know that. But every morning, I grind one up and mix it in the glass of orange juice that my 16 year old granddaughter drinks. And believe me, it helps me sleep at night!"

I'd say yours had too big of a string ... or maybe they were too small, if they're crammed up there, it's uncomfortable, too.

OMG Carla-You kill me... only you would analyze the WHY of Jestgar's thong being uncomfortable. You tOTALLY remind me of my sister (who has said the EXACT same thing to me about thongs). :P

Nice of you not to add "maybe your butt's just too big"...

I can't decide who to quote ... you both crack me up!

It's never the butt being too big ... it's always the underwear's fault.

I LOVE Chicago! When are you going? I haven't been there in a while ... can't remember the last time ... oh, I remember, it was summer 2003, I had such a bad pain in my knee I could hardly walk ... the start of it all.

Fill me in ... what is MIND THE GAP?

I think "mind the gap" has something to do with the Tube (that underground transportation thing-y everyone rides in London)??? Nikkeigh - help us - -

Chicago is supposed to be in September. I just don't really care and it seems like too much effort (a three-night trip at a FABULOUS hotel).......I don't know what to wear in Chicago.   Probably not my usual scroungy stuff and flip-flops.

um, what the heck would I do there? (other than museums)......as of now I have decided I don't even care......talk me into going? :) I am SO not a city girl.........harrumph......

CarlaB Enthusiast

Ugg. I just hit the wrong key and LOST my post ... about trying on a Van Cleef and Arpel's 1.1 million dollar necklace! :o BTW, I was wearing designer jeans, Memphisto shoes, and a white t-shirt. I was talking about the ape at the zoo ... there was just glass between us and the ape ... the ape teased my little sister, hysterical.

I love the museums! I'd like to spend more time at the art museum.

The Magnificent Mile is a fun place to shop, and is fun at night. I love the street musicians. My favorite was a group of four sisters ... a string quartet playing classical music on the street to put themselves through college!

I also remembered that I was there the summer before last ... I played flute at Cardinal George's Mass!!!! It was SO cool. The other flute player was a music major and was VERY good. She was supposed to do a solo for the offertory ... she and the piano player were going to practice it after regular practice was over.

The morning of the Mass she says, "Did they tell you?" "Uh, tell me what?" "We're playing the offertory together because it was too difficult for the piano player!

Hello?? What makes them think I can play it?! So she says, "Do you want to play through it before Mass starts?" Uh, no, I'd rather sight read, right. We go to a back room and run through it a couple times, then play it together with no accompaniment. It was one of those where she played 8 bars, then I played 8 bars, then we played together.

Anyway, it was a fun trip! I would never do that right now with my braces. :( I can't wait to get them off ... the only time they bug me is for my flute playing.

For back pain, I take a combination of Cobalamine B12, Pyridoxine B 6, and Thiamine B 1 (in the form Benfotiamine), which have an analgesic effect.  These three B vitamins together work way better than those over the counter pain relievers.  Theses are water soluble B vitamins that are easily excreted via the kidneys if not needed.  Thiamine will also help the nausea. @stephaniekl, welcome to the forum, Is your daughter taking any nutritional supplements?   Weight loss and failure to thrive are two symptoms of thiamine insufficiency.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms are not recognized as such by doctors.   I experienced similar symptoms when I became malnourished.  Thiamine deficiency symptoms can become worse quickly, and can affect one emotionally and mentally.  Although blood tests for thiamine aren't accurate, do have your daughter checked for nutritional deficiencies.  Thiamine B 1 works with the other B vitamins and magnesium.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 help improve Gerd.  All the B vitamins are frequently low due to malabsorption.  Vitamin D will help calm the immune system.  Thiamine helps the immune system fight off viruses like those tick borne illnesses.   Thiamine Mononitrate, which is in many vitamin supplements, is not bioavailable.  I was taking a multivitamin containing thiamine mononitrate and still became deficient in thiamine. Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  A form called TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is also excellent for correcting thiamine deficiency.  A combination of Thiamine, Cobalamine B12, and Pyridoxine B 6 has analgesic properties.  I take it for back pain.   Keep us posted on your progress! Interesting Reading... The importance of thiamine (vitamin B1) in humans https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10568373/#:~:text=Thiamine absorption in the jejunum, system [51–53].

Has prednisone or some other systemic steroid been tried that might quiet her immune system down for a while? I have two acquaintances with Lyme's disease. It is a wicked condition that has long fingers.

We have.  She is so limited as to what she can eat.  She has a nutritionist, but they are even at a loss.  Right now, her pain is so significant that she can only eat 5-10 bites a meal.   We just got some labs back today and she is hypoglycemia, anemic and her immune system is shot.  She also is positive for 3 tickborne illnesses.  Thanks for your help!

A much better suggestion than that of the new doctor!
