All right .. . .. .now for something completely stupid.

I think all-a-yuz know I've been thinking that my brain's working pretty well lately.

So how is it possible I'm going to a party tonight w/ 40+ ppl and it NEVER crossed my mind that there's ZERO chance that none of them will be overly perfumed or cologned???

GAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

And probably some wonderfully fragrant holiday candles too!

Mom brought it up on the ph a bit ago. I called Mei, and even SHE had already thought of it!!!

But I didn't .. . <which emoticon best conveys looking stoooooooooo-pid?>

And it turns out both of my suitcoats have problems, but John's close enough to my size and already offered. Hmmmm do I even still have a shirt that'll work?

I think I got rid of them when for too many yrs it appeared I'd never get well. :(

Oh, here's a curious thought that appeared as some sort of cross between a memory and a premonition.

Many years ago, in Chicago, I went to a Christmas party where I was set up by my fav cousin on a not-so-blind date. I'd met the woman briefly before.

AT the party, I met someone else and we were together for maybe a yr & a half. Great fun we had.

(here's a chuckle - her brother ended up living in Fremont CA, while I did, and I saw his name & pic in the newspaper as he was the President of the Bay Area Underwater Hockey Assoc!!! Yes! It's a real sport!!)

Anyway, I can't NOT go to the party in ph34r of fumes when I may meet someone else who isn't eating!!

Sillies I could have used you guys this afternoon. I was at Walmart and the people were so annoying and crowded. No parking....crying kids, angry parents....blah blah...

I was secret santa shopping for my coworker.....everything she asked for (we ask for 3 things) was not in the store....so I think I am just going to do a Kohl's gift card.

Oh ROFL! Here's the latest PM I just got stemming from "p.s. it's Celiac, not Ceiacs"

And it includes ANOTHER language peeve of mine. "One's" is not POSSESIVE!! It's PLURAL!!!!!

So does that person type incorrectly or are they trying to make a joke?

Amanda - definitely not a joke, but adjacent-letter typos simply MUST always be excused.

Particularly when one is typing w/ panties in perturbance.

Wow, them's fightin' words...and from a child-like, grammar-challenged simpleton. Male or female, would you say, Tom?...Out of curiosity...

I don't think I'm allowed to say.

I've been told that any quoting of PMs is highly discouraged, even when the actual privacy is maintained, identity-wise.

Gah!! Too much to catch up on and reply to again and I need to shower and begone!!

 actually getting nervous! :o

But didn't the other times I've seen Mei lately. It may be the premonition. Maybe a cute lil gluten-free Filipina awaits!!

A friend of mine met his (now) wife at a party . . . where she was the date of someone else.

Also, if you have to . . . just hold your breath and then make mad dashes outside to breathe. I'm sure no one will notice that  peculiar behavioUr.

Have Fun!

Have a great time tonight, Tom. Nervous is good...shows a healthy interest in life. Trying to think of something you could wear that would help with fragrance sensitivity...the clothespin is wise, but painful.

Hmmm....how about this?

Your respiration would be completely sealed off....however, you'd need a partner to share your space.

But hey...this unforgettable contraption was for private conversations, not private breathing. You could take it along with you for that sudden, unexpected dialogue which may develop that you may wish to keep private. Great prop for meeting women, as well...

Peter is not missing, but he has been busy...

We own and operate a retail business, and December is our busiest time. I was in the store all day today. I'm at home now, bracing for a major winter storm to arrive. It has been snowing lightly all afternoon, but is expected to become intense within the next two hours, with up to 16 inches of accumulation over the next 24 hours. It had been originally planned that I would again be in the store most of Sunday, but because of the weather I am probably going to take a "snow day." We have an employee who lives within walking distance of the store. He is scheduled to work the full day; I was going to be an extra hand. Well, if we get even half of the predicted snowfall nobody will be venturing out, so he won't be needing any help. An unexpected day off just before Christmas--but reduced revenue for the day. I hope the business simply shifts to after the storm is over.

Emily is in the path of this storm, but it will hit her a few hours after it hits me. All the folks in the US Northeast will also get some of it. I hope everyone is prepared.

I will be looking in over the next while, but will not be as active as I typically have been until after Christmas. In retail, Christmas is big buck$, but long hours.

Carry on, sillies! :o

I am in the storm path!!! I have my flashlights ready and matches for the gas stove in case we lose electricity. I have done my laundry and housework so I would be in mid-load if we lost power. We are expecting ice...and ice causes problems.

But but .. . .. . .

I know some of you know that I'm still a smoker so I will occasionally be outside and perhaps have no one to talk to. (Oh grrrr no one w/ which to converse with? Oops blew it!! :o leave the "with" off!)

Tom, you are only allowed to talk to us if you quit smoking ... I didn't know you did that ... you need to stop.

Good mornin' Peter!

OMG....We've had all the warnings, and so far about 10 of the expected 60 cm (2 feet). That will be a record for a twenty-four hour snowfall, at least around here.

Feel SO bad for Jack, my DS, whose birthday is on Boxing Day, but we've planned a party today with all his little buddies, going to the wave pool, back here for pizza and cake. Well, not venturing on the Queensway to go all the way out to the pool...and who knows how many kids are gonna even show up here? Guess we'll be playing Twister in the basement (maybe just Jack and I....SIGH....)

Awww :(

I do feel a tad sorry for kids whose birthday fall during 'the holiday' season (Hee - hee, I used an Americanism)

My friends little boy's birthday is on New Years day - everyone's partied out!! :( (there is something grammatically wrong about that sentence - but can't work it out....Emily????)

Anywho - twister in the basement (with nips of alcoholic beverages for Mummy's + Daddy's) sounds like good fun

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!

my IGG is 815 IGA 203  but tTG-Iga is   <0.4!!!!!!!!!!!!!   oh my god- 13 days of agony and the test is negative?  I don't even know what to do next. There zero doubt in my mind that I have an issue with wheat and probably more so with gluten as symptoms are dramatically worse the more gluten a product has   I am going to write up the history of my issues for the past few years and start a food/symptom diary to bring with me to the GI doctor in March.   I googled like crazy to try to find out what other things might cause these symptoms and the only thing that truly fits besides celiac is NCGS   but I guess there are some other things I maybe should be tested for ...? like SIBO?   I will continue to eliminate any foods that cause me distress (as I have been doing for the past couple of years) and try to keep a record. Can anyone recommend an app or some form or something that would simplify this? I have a very full and busy life and taking the time to write out each symptom name in full would be tedious and time consuming- some sort of page with columns to check off would be ideal. I am not at all tech savvy so that's not something I can make myself ... I'm hoping there's some thing out there that I can just download and print out   do I give up on testing for celiac with such a low number? I am 70 yrs old I have been almost completely off gluten for the most part for about 2 yrs. I had a meal of vital wheat gluten vegan roast,  rolls and stuffing made from home baked bread and an apple pie- and had the worst pain and gas and bloating and odd rumblings in my gut etc - almost went to the ER it was so bad. I was thinking, since I'm spilling a lot of calcium in my urine, that perhaps this was a kidney stone (never had one before but there's always that first time, right?)    Saw my endo on Jan 20th and after hearing the story about the symptoms from eating that holiday meal, she suggested doing a gluten challenge. She said 2 weeks was fine- she said stopping it in the middle if symptoms got bad was fine- In the meantime I'd read that 2 weeks was not enough- called and argued with the nurse about this, but ultimately decided to stop the gluten on the 13th day and get the test done because I was in too much pain and almost suicidal and knew I could not continue.   so.............. that's where I am now I have had no bread since Sunday. I did have some rolled oats today and had some gas and bloating afterwards I did have some wheat germ in a smoothie on Tuesday and had a stomach ache later that night.   but overall I feel so much better! all the joint pain is gone! the nausea is gone. The stomach pain and gas and bloating are going away. Still a bit gassy but no more of that horrible odor. wow, that would clear a room if I was out in public!  I see a GI nurse March 4th  I hope she'll be able to help sort this out! can you think of what my next steps might be?
