Typically SJ has only a few days that hot ALL SUMMER. (It's not like we're Phrezno!)

 utterly heinous.......our warm spell is beginning - PhrezNO will also be quite hot this week - but that's rare for SJ - gah! I'm starting to get cranky...........as the temp rises......

Aha! There's Susie. I was gonna say "where's Pseuzee?"

Figured a non-poop-in Sunday meant Janie must've had one rip-roarin' humdinger of a Mom's Day. :D

It was soooooooooooooo dull, pleasant but dull. Over at my brother's, just a few of us, Kissey included, and so quiet I could have passed out, just as with most of our (very few) family gatherings...... <_<:( I don't even know why I go.......I had not been to my brother's - who lives TWO miles away, remember - since Christmas. I really wish I had a loud, silly, boisterous family, who talked about fun things and were......involved in each other's lives. Kissey said - at least there's no drama, to which I replied - - I"LL TAKE DRAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( It means at least that people care............so we were there exactly two hours and scooted out.

<sorry for rant and..........I'm actually not even sad over this any more - have worked through it and the sad thing is - - I don't even care any more - have moved into indifference >

EMILY!!!!!!! I'm quite excited about yer new poooooooo-dle Elsie!!!!!!!! Newest addition to sillyville - we'll need a photo soon and THEN we'll just SEE who is the cutest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mygawd - the dehydration - what in hell? poor thing. Glad she's with you guys and now Gus is in lurve!!!!!!!!!!

ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How did we forget to organize a parade for Alex's wedding???????

Where are our manners????????????????????????? Anywho, happy honeymooning......

Amanda - hope Landen's mommy's eye is okay! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend.

Sillies - - I am exhausted. I can't keep up with the Kissey lifestyle. (it was our three-month anniversary yesterday  ) dear gawd, I"ve said it before and you'll hear it again, of course..........but that boy wears me out. And last night - - night sweats the ENTIRE NIGHT - - woke up about 100 times, completely soaked.........does anyone feel completely exhausted after a night o' the sweats, or is it just me??????

We watched Lars and the Real Girl last night - one of the quirkiest and cutest movies ever......we LOVED it. I can't be sure everyone will like it - very quirky - - but some of the most superbly-acted performances ever and dealing so preciously and charmingly w/ Lars' serious problems....Kissey, of course, cried many times, as always (I never cry - he always cries - sooooooooooooo cute)

back to gardening and hauling my tired-ass self around to get things done......

I also believe that she was not being given enough water - - you should have seen the way she attacked the water bowl when she got here. Jack timed her, and she drank for six minutes straight. Every time I put the water back down that day, she attacked it the same way. Now it's not happening....things seemed to revert to normal behavior fairly quickly.

I have to put 1/2 a bowl of water down for Lilo at a time.. Otherwise, she'll slug it down and then barph it back up.

So I am heading out for the afternoon, got to take John to the dentist and then I am picking up Landen, poor Jen cannot see at all....so he will stay with us again. So hopefully I will poop in later.

bye Sillies!

Poor Jen! BTW... I read that last sentence THREE times before I saw the word "in." I just couldn't figure out how "hopefully I will poop later" fit in with the rest of the post. You'd think I'd know by now.

Jess - awhile back you wrote

And with regard to Maureening, I've been grain/starch/sugar free since Friday. I am pleased to announce that I woke up this morning and the first thing that entered my brain was "Holy Crap!! I don't hurt!!!"

Is this still going this well?

Anyone else hear that Emily was the #1 baby girl name for the 11th or 12th straight year? :o

I don't know any others, so in the decades to come when I meet 'em all (ya! ALL of 'em) I'll always be reminded of our silly Silly. :)

Which reminds me - in all my perusing of YahooPersonals I CONSTANTLY see names from Sillyville & OMG. But never an Emily.

There's even a Jin ferOracle'ssake!!!

Ohhhhhhh the cute-off is on!!!

New Squeezee av definitely bumps it up a notch.

(btw why do so many ppl spell that definately?? )

EMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!! Where IS Elsie!!??

(That name ALways reminds me of a cow - some 70s comm'l mefinks)

 utterly heinous.......our warm spell is beginning - PhrezNO will also be quite hot this week - but that's rare for SJ - gah! I'm starting to get cranky...........as the temp rises......

That looks like a cute movie, Ryan Gosling right? I love Ryan Gosling from The Notebook and just watched him in Fracture with Anthony Hopkins, very intense on the edge of your seat movie.

I have gotten us THE most beautiful, amazing dog. She and Gus play happily together, eat out of the same bowls (couldn't be bothered to put out separate ones...no prob), and walk side by side like two magnificent creatures on leash. She's getting her very long, somewhat matted hair clipped off as we speak. She will look completely different - - I cannot wait to see her!

And last night - - night sweats the ENTIRE NIGHT - - woke up about 100 times, completely soaked.........does anyone feel completely exhausted after a night o' the sweats, or is it just me??????

Susie, what in hell? Are you perimenopausal? Are you just freaking hot?

Unbelievably 84 F !!!!....dear god!!...it's gonna go back to normal (dull, chilly, grey) by the end of the week and I shall be thrown into Seasonal Affective Disorder AGAIN!!!!!!!! :(

My family gatherings are as above (please stay sitting up if you are going to pass out  ....and whatever you do, DON'T have fun) <yawn>

Whereas Terry's family gatherings are rather raucous, drunken debauched affairs where an inevitable punch up ensues :o:lol:

(Gotta admit Tel's gatherings ARE more fun ;) )

Night sweats?????......sound heinous <_<

Family get-togethers....oye. Mark's family is a fun group--lots of laughs, junior high homoUr (like here  ), and good, spirited talking.

Mine, on the other hand is unfortunately kinda like Susie's--I've also gotten to the point of indifference, which is ok too. ;) I'm pretty much only close to my younger sister and my dad.

OMG - two summers ago on OMG - we lost our minds. 'Twas a sheer riot.............good gawd.............we got in trouble a lot (ha ha)

Does Janie rein herself in for these occasions???

My family gatherings are as above (please stay sitting up if you are going to pass out ....and whatever you do, DON'T have fun) <yawn>

Janie is okay with the dull-ness of it. she, um, married a quiet, un-silly man, whom I happen to like very much...he is actually a salt-of-the-earth type of man, a STAUNCH - and I can't stress staunch enough - Republican, the son of dust-bowl Oakies (who migrated to California in the 30's, for those who don't know - think Grapes of Wrath) but she does lament that he does not have one shred of silly. She is quite jealous of my silliness wif Kissey , as 'tis nearly dangerous silliness at times, as I become apoplectic w/ silent, paralyzing, breathless laughter.......so she doesn't reign herself in at these events, she just enjoys the pleasant dull-ness of it and it is not nearly as tortuous for her as it is for me.

I used to be the loudest, most hyperactive one, insanely uncomfortable w/ dinner-table silences, so I would, um, fill up the air time..... My mom would gently pat my arm and say quietly and bemusedly, it's okay if there's quiet......you don't have to fill up the void. So now, even though there is pleasant, dull, banal chatter, I just smile and stare into space, and sip my wine like a slow-witted simpleton.

Nicola - I want to come to Tel's family's events........... harrumph!

OMG - I have to go pick up a few things at Walmart - - and I am soooooooo askeert of what sorts of Hershey's products I'll come home with......haven't had nuggets in at least a month.......could easily eat a whole bag today.......

Just got a call from the groomer...Elsie is quite matted- - heinous - - and they will therefore be charging me more. They estimated that it has been at least six months since she's been clipped. This is FAR too long, as their hair gets full of mats, not to mention how bloody hot she was when we all went out for walks. Gus was trotting along, tongue lolling happily...Elsie was panting loudly, trying to keep running...

So they have to take her coat right down....she'll be very short. Gawd, I will not recognise her, and she will be about half the size, I'm sure....

She looked like a snow-white yeti, now that I think of it....

Yeti!!!!...What a great name for a dog!! All right, the next Silly who gets a dog.....we have its name!

My interesting-food free Edna is going quite well. Have had a few breakdowns wherein I just couldn't stand it any more and ate some fruit (warning for TV munchers- don't choose a bag of prunes as your mindless eating companion  ) but mostly I've been good. Just finished my mid-afternoon snack of a bell pepper.

Actually I skipped breakfast because the thought of eating the same thing yet again was just too much to bear. I suppose this is how much of the world lives so I shouldn't be whiny, but then, why not. If you can't whine about things that are really of no consequence, then you're left with the big scary stuff, and I'd just as soon avoid those.

Some sillyness:

An old lady was standing at the rail of the cruise ship holding her hat so that the wind wouldn't blow it away in the wind.

A gentleman approached her & said, 'Pardon me, madam, I do not intend to be forward but did you know that your dress is blowing up in this wind?'

'Yes, I know,' said the lady. 'But I need my hands to hold onto my hat.'

'But madam, he said, 'you must know that you're derri

Upon further reflection, I'd like to add that I'm much more aware of flavors in food and don't add very much (or any) salt. And I've found that when I drink tea, just a little fruit flavoring adds enough interest that I don't miss sugar.

I also find it curious that I times I know I could plow through an entire bag of chips, but couldn't possibly put one more nut in my mouth. Interesting to ponder if these are emotional eating cues, or preservative-enhanced eating cues.

Sorry, waxing philosophical. Must return to reading about TLR signaling pathways and rheumatology.

:D Oh Jess--I completely understand....

My Edna is also rolling along nicely, but there have been those moments where I'd rather just not eat than have something "allowed" again. I hear ya on that.

I'm lucky, in that I can eat fruit (except citrus), so I use that to calm my sweet tooth. I bought some nectarines yesterday that are heavenly. It's funny because I was never much for fruit--it always upset my stomach (or so I thought) so I got out of the habit of eating it. Now, I'm discovering fruit all over again. :)

I'm losing a little weight and the clothes are fitting looser-- blood pressure is also responding so I'm on the right track. I do firmly believe that my body does. not. like. grains. Any grains, really and truly. For me and my issues, the grain free diet (and very low sodium) seem to be the ticket :D

Gawd--that was more than ya'll wanted to know but once I got rolling........

Emily!!!! Yay . . . there she is!!!! Well, the good news is that she doesn't look embarrassed about her new hairdo although maybe a tad tired. I'm sure it was an ordeal for her. The first poodle that my mom and dad ever had always hid under the sofa for a couple of days after a scalping hair-cut . . . of course, my mom always did it herself to save money, so the dog did indeed have something to be emabarrassed about. It's hard to tell in the photo . . . does she need to put on some weight? Our JosieDog came home from the pound considerably underfed . . . she ate like a horse and filled out quite nicely (and quickly). And you didn't answer . . . where did you put her bed?

Ahh! Jess! You've given me the next topic to toss around when my family gets together. I do not believe we've covered TLR signalling pathways. Of course, it's TMI constantly. And we often signal - - like, for yet another wine refill.

Actually, we still haven't decided how on earth glue keeps from sticking to the inside of that bottle.....is it due to a TLR signal, Jess?

I always find this interesting . . . if I had to eat the same food everyday, would I be overweight? We always free-fed my dog Maggie. She always stayed the same weight. My vet complimented me on keeping her at her ideal weight. I told her that we free feed and she told me "Never mind" then she turned to Maggie and gave her a good neck rub and talked to her in a dog voice and complimented Her on keeping herself at her ideal weight. Now, Josie is a different story, she would just keep eating, even though it's the exact same thing every day. I have a feeling I'm a Josie and not a Maggie.

And you didn't answer . . . where did you put her bed?

You know, she has no interest in a bed. So funny.....she stretches out on the hardwood floor, and sighs contentedly. I think she's just so happy to be out of a crate...she was in one all night at her old home, and whenever she was alone in the house. There is absolutely NO need for this...she doesn't chew anything, she is totally house trained....

....And she's very thin. No Edna for this girl.....

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. Just to clarify, I actually did have my initial tests done while I was still consuming gluten. I stopped eating gluten only after those tests were completed, and it has now been about 70 days since I went gluten-free. I understand the limitations around diagnosing NCGS and the importance of antibody testing and biopsy for celiac disease. Unfortunately, where I live, access to comprehensive testing (including total IgA and endoscopy with biopsy) is limited, which makes things more complicated. Your explanation about small-bowel damage, nutrient absorption, and iron-deficiency anemia still aligns closely with my history, and it’s been very helpful in understanding what may be going on. I don't wanna get Endoscopy and I can't start eating Gluten again because it's hurt really with severe diarrhea.  I appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed and informative guidance. Thank you so much for this detailed and thoughtful response. I really appreciate you pointing out the relationship between anemia and antibody patterns, and how the high DGP IgG still supports celiac disease in my case. A gluten challenge isn’t something I feel safe attempting due to how severe my reactions were, so your suggestion about genetic testing makes a lot of sense. I’ll look into whether HLA testing is available where I live and discuss it with my doctor. I also appreciate you mentioning gastrointestinal beriberi and thiamine deficiency. This isn’t something any of my doctors have discussed with me, and given my symptoms and nutritional history, it’s definitely worth raising with them. I’ll also ask about correcting deficiencies more comprehensively, including B vitamins alongside iron. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to help. I’ll update the forum as I make progress.
    • knitty kitty
Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
