although I don't know if I can claim full residency here, just for the record, I am:

-right handed

-and my hair can be all. Curly, wavy, and straight.

Laura, we right handed folks need to stay together. Sillyville is for everybody.

Royal proclamation: Laura (happygirl) is accepted as a citizen of Sillyville, with all that it entails. She must visit regularly, share phunny stories, and laugh along with us.

And while I'm at it, Lisa (curlyfries) has been enthusiastically participating, so I will waive the usual admission tests and welcome her as well.

Welcome to Sillyville. :)

Yes, but should we be calling her . . . permedinducedcurlyfries?

I was almost afraid to admit that I love math, for fear that I might actually be saying something embarrassing! Whew! :P

I think mathy thoughts FAR more than needed. We have Janet & Jess on our side btw. (Did I miss someone?)

Isn't there a Sillyville Local Ordinance to embrace embarrassment??

Math is kewl!!!

Morning Sillies.....tis a brighter day today! Jen's eye is better and we actually took a walk last night....a very long walk....my legs are still a wee bit tired today. John is so/so. Turns out his tooth is a root canal that didnt take or something...crazy! Well its back to the grind I will poop in later and talk to you all.

As for math....I need to let you all know I cannot count to save my life....scary aint it? I tried to tell my buddies in the cafeteria the other day that I couldnt count and they didnt believe me....I guess they thought I was joking which I was NOT! I am a very good speller and proof-reader....ask me to do some simple equations or conversions....might as well ask an infant.

Morning, Sillies!

Elsie is sitting with her beautiful white head on my lap. Gus is lying across the room, staring quietly at her, still, I'm sure, trying to figure out what in hell's going on....:lol:

A couple of accidents yesterday (three)...so our girl is not completely housebroken yet. I think that she spent so much time in a crate before that she needs to learn what being in the real, big world, involves. I'm sure it'll take some time...

King Peter hath spoken!!

Peter, can you do something about yearly pap smears?

Isn't there a Sillyville Local Ordinance to embrace embarrassment??

If not, King Peter will be on it. :)

Morning, Amanda! I remain exactly the same way, and I've just realized that this must be due to our shared brain.....

I had a thought about the quicksand one, you know you don't hear so much about quicksand anymore. It used to be in a movie or two, and several tv shows...oh, it's the dreaded quicksand, however will they get out....... but no, not so much anymore.

The quicksand would like to apologise for it's absence...it had retired BUT agreed to do a one off episode on 'Dr Who' (shown last Saturday eve)

It dutifully devoured a 'fish monster/creature' with great aplomb.

Righty here. Strongly Right-eyed even

Right eyed

WHAT? now she tells us......it's FAKE curly.......well this throws off our scientific "accuracy" quite a bit

So, Lisa is a phake curly but a genuine lefty with a penchant for mathS????

Reminds me of an epiphany I once had (have I told you guys this already? ), driving on highway 152 through Los Banos (Tom may know this most BORING, long, flat, endless heinous stretch of ugly road through flat, stinky dairy and farmlands - miles of literally nothing) and left alone w/ my dingo thoughts.......I glanced over into a car next to me and saw this lady, maybe in her sixties.....she had solid white hair, forming a frizzy, puffball halo 'round her head, 'twas perhaps two inches in length.

And - this thought flashed into my mind: at what point do we just give up, just let our hair revert to its hideous, willful, default state? At what point do we just give into our slovenly old age, quash our vanity.....quit the coloUr, the styling, the blow-drying, the products, all of it, and let it GO? Let it turn solid gray/white, spazz out, go its own way.........

THIS cracks me up :lol::lol:

Is Pseuzee phunnier when glutened????

YES, when??? .....at least us curlies will NOT need a perm for the shampoo and set

Can you stop shaving yer legs and grow a full beard (with side burns)?? ...Is that allowed??? ...maybe only in England

Do I get to wear a headscarf???......stockings (not sexy-think American tan)...and OMG!!!!...will I be a fat or a skinny old lady???? (they only come in 2 varieties)

<I think I'm going to be fat >

GADS!!!! ...I can't WAIT to be freed from this hellish vain obsessed beautimousness

Can't wait until Nicola arises and puts in her tuppence about all of this

:lol::lol:

My tuppence worth......how terribly British!!!!!

Struggled and hated my hair as a child.

Was teased mercilessly at school......'fuzzy bear' and similar names were bandied about.

Mummy said ''You will appreciate when you are older''

Mummy was right ;)

I LAUGH in the face of the teasers!!! HA!!!!!!!!!

I do sometimes long for silky straight tresses........I am stuck with the same look......and WHEN do I have to stop having long hair????

Mygawd, it is a minefield nest-ce-pas????

The lefty thing - I think most of us are a tad ambidextrous as we HAVE to be in this 'righty' world

I have always known however that 'we' are superior beings!!! ;)

so sweet of you to say, Paddeigh,

Paddeigh

Gotta go again!

Morning all. No funny stories this morning...just enjoying a rare day off from work and my second cup of coffee, and watching our puppy 'zoom' around out yard like a crazy person.

Nikki! I ponder these things, as well. You can get a pretty good idea, usually, by taking a good long look at both of your parents. I believe I am, at least physically, a fairly equal combination of them both. It's an exercise that I do not do very often....it is a sad place to visit....

I LAUGH in the face of the teasers!!! HA!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure you do! Nikki, I absolutely luuuuurrrrrrve your crazy, wanton tresses. I covet them... :)

Ryan!! You simply cannot stride into Sillyville with a short post about having a new puppy WITHOUT telling us anything about him/her! Name? Age? Breed? Where have you put her bed? And, MOST importantly - - where is the av of her?! :);)

probably the answer Em! I never even thought of that....I am in need of the brain this week....work has been on overload...

You got it, Amanda. The students are doing review things, and I don't need to be thinking much to be runnin' wif ma dogs.....

Hi Sillies :D

Just returned from my bi-weekly (is that the right term for twice a week?) Chiropractic appointment. Feels good :D

Yes Ryan, you need to tell us more--and for goodness sake.....pop in more often! :)

Emily and Amanda's shared brain  Never gets old!

Ain't got much else.....Nikki, I was teased about my curly hair as a child, too. Mine was fuzzy, out of control and the bane of my very existence <_< As a teen, I tried ironing it, rolling it on soup cans at night and slathering it with Dippity Do (an early hair gel--very goopy) and wrapping around my head overnight. I have to say it's been nice having straight hair for the last couple of years--I always wanted it and got it. Now, I think I can move on

To me this implies on two legs.

P.S. I enjoy Susie's Hwy152 dandelion-head lady story nearly as much the 2nd time as the first. No use worrying about whether this or that's been said before. :)

<and I really like saying dandelion-head lady>

P.P.S. So .. ...I thought I was going to quit cigs again - and for good - upon returning from Reno, but was having a crappy Monday and since I knew quitting would mean at LEAST 5 tough days (and maybe 2 wks or more?) I just wanted to have a few good days first.

Is that too much to ask????

Now it's more than 2 wks later & I'm still waiting for a few good days.

Hmmmm not much of a point to this P.P.S., tho it's made me think that if I DID quit on apr28th, I'd probably already be over the crappy part.

<waaaaaaaaaaaaa i like shmokin' too much>

Jeez, Amanda....Thank goodness you've got the brain this week!!

Jack's next query is most interesting: He wants to know who the most interesting character is when you google your own name. He came up with a couple of lawyers, a cardiologist in London, but the most memorable for him is his namesake who is a professional (it is a profession - - who knew?) shepherd in Wales, and is part of a large shepherding-type networking website.:lol:

Nothing exciting fer me - - only a handful that match my exact name, and most of them are Australian...one's a sculptor....

I wanna meet this shepherd!

Ptaougthmnhmn...sorry about this rough patch for you. :( How frustrating things must be to have a day or two of almost-normalness, and you want to dare the thought that you might be on a roll, and then have a crappy run afterward. One lives in hope......

Um.......My first suspicion, and to suggest it may cause you to roll yer eyes as it's something you have perhaps often thought, is that the cigarettes themselves are a big (the main?) part of why you go days feeling crappy. You are constantly reacting to them, perhaps subclinically, as you react to so many other outside agents. If this is the case, won't you be waiting for-bleedin'-evah for a few good days to quit? Just thinking aloud.....

Gad, I feel for you, Ptaouytghmhnkhm...thank god I got off those things early in life....

I remember Dippity Do . . . Do they still make that?? My mom use to put my hair in pin curls and she always used Dippity Do . . . it was torture at the time (had to sit still) but what a fond memory, now . . . Thanks, Pat-tee

OK, I had to go check . . . Yes, they do still make it. Found some at Amazon. Jar looks different . . . Imagine that, it's only been 37 years.

Hey, if it can hold short hair in place like we saw, hell, imagine what else it could do?

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
