I don't know about anybody else, but I don't leave my balls unprotected out in the yard where children can grab them.

Thank Gawd.......I am so relieved to hear that our Great Monarch is protecting his balls when out in Royal Walkabouts...

Morning Sillies....a very big day at work. I have a big meeting with Merck about a new trial we are getting.....very very scary too! I am nervous!!! Wont be too much time for silly vortex today. Sadly.

Good Mornin', Sillies!

Don't think we officially had any frost last night, although it was close. . ..my plants should be okay. Our lovely old chestnut tree has bloomed fully - - its broad, fat leaves that canopy half our yard look wonderful.

Mr. Chow was out at exactly 6 am, stretching to greet the sun.

All is good.

Speaking of Chows, for I believe the first time I bumped into, and chatted with, Mrs. Chow last evening while out with the dogs. I was careful not to so obviously stare at her tongue.. . but like her husband, hers is pink also. She looks to be about a hundred, and with a face SO infinitely draw-able. I see an aged, ravaged face such as hers and all I want to do is capture it on paper. I sense that she feels I'm quite odd, and therefore I will not ask her to pose for a portrait. Although I could tell her that she may end up in a Walmart frame.. ..that always sways 'em.....

Ok- am so tired today that I am giddy (my mom used to call it overtired- then again, she always called a sunburn a wind burn. I'd go to the beach when it was 90 degrees out and come home and it was STILL a windburn. But I digress!)

Found EVERY posy hysterically funny this a.m.

Aren't we allowed to quote what we thought we saw?

Jess- You just wait!!!!!!!!!!! Revenge is a dish best served SILLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

You guys won't believe this- at 76, Uncle Ray has crabs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A man boarded an airplane in Baltimore Maryland , with a box of crabs.

A female crew member took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator, which she did.

The man advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for the crabs staying frozen, and proceeded to rant and rave about what would happen if she let the crabs thaw out.

Of course this irritated the flight attendant and she told the passenger not to worry.

Shortly before landing in Atlanta she announced to the entire cabin, "Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in Baltimore , please raise your hand?"

Not one hand went up ..... so she took them home and ate them herself!

I like stories with happy endings.

Just got back--very good Chiro appointment :D I get really bad neck and head pain when glutened, and this past week was a doozey!

I asked her if and how a food I consumed could affect my joints and all. She explained to me that it definately could--kind of like the energy from a surge can affect a house.

The energy surge enters and either short-circuts the whole electrical panel, or goes straight for a vulnerable outlet and burns it out. The body, to protect itself, short circuts and the resulting attack (as the body is reacting to the "invader" causing inflammation and upsetting the nervous system) can most definately affect the body's allignment.

It does make sense--to my pea brain, anyway --she also said that my spine was the tightest she's felt it in the whole time I've been seeing her. She wants me to come back on Friday. For right now, the headache is gone, and my neck is lots more relaxed.

Ok, back to sillie :D

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
