Sarah,

I tend to agree with Jess--put it all out on the table, since you're such close friends. It'll be worse later on if you go ahead and then find that you can't handle it.

I think it's going to have to be something like that... I hate being wishy washy about it, as opposed to just giving her a commitment, but I really want to help her if I can!!! This girl needs a break, you know? She's been through the wringer (and still is) because of her jackass husband. <_<

I've known them both for almost ten years, and I've become so disgusted with him in the past couple years, I don't even want to talk to him anymore, EVER.

If nothing else, you'd be giving her time to consider other options.

I am getting frustrated by this whole thing. He just doesn't really have rules at his house so when he gets to mine and he wants to crawl all over we don't allow it. He throws fits in the car and the store so what used to be when we got our errands done is now confining me to the house. I am thinking about only keeping him a weekend a month now.....

I probably sound selfish or horrible but come on.

Amanda--you sound neither selfish or horrible! You are entitled to a life, too. You work all day and have the house to take care of and I'm sure you like spending your free time with that guy you married ;)

Same advice to Sarah holds true for you, too--speak to Landen's mom and tell her you guys need to make a change.

For the past 3 nights, he has woke up screaming @ 3 and continues until 6-6:30, yet no one sees anything wrong with it. When you stop and think at 8 he gets a bowl of cereal mixed with either fruit or veggies and then another bottle.

Any advice guys?

umm, what kind of cereal? I used to wake up at 3 am every night...

But he is not the easiest child to handle. He has behavioral and focus issues, and takes medication for them during the school year... but my friend doesn't have him take his meds when he's not in school. I've tried talking to her about that, because I just don't know if that's a great idea... The meds really help him when he's on them. But this is how she wants it, at least for now.

Uuuggghhhh!!!! I see this all the time at the middle school. When we get them back their minds and bodies are out of wack from being off their meds and then back on. It takes days for their behavior to get back on track, and some have constant head or stomach aches. It's definitely not good for them. I also have hearing-impaired students who don't have to wear their hearing aides at home so their speech is getting worse.

Sarah - I can only go along w/ the advice others offered, but it seems strange to me that the boy gets put on & off the medication.

Well, I just talked to my friend. I told her what's been going on with my health and withdrawal effects and everything. She knew I'd been "sick" but I hadn't gone into detail till now.

In the end, I told her that I'll do it. If she gets this other position, she probably wouldn't be starting for at least a couple more weeks- which gives me at least two more weeks to get through this. A lot can happen in two weeks. Gives me time to mentally prepare and psych myself up for it, too.

I'm nervous about it, but I want to help her. Getting myself on a stricter schedule wouldn't be bad for me, either. The money will help pay for the boys' school clothes this year, too, which will be a relief.

If she doesn't get this position (and under the circumstances, I'm thinking she probably will) She's going to look for another one that would be during the week. I've been trying to convince her to get off the weekends for a looong time. She's missed out on a lot over the years.

She's been doing it to keep her kids out of daycare, but because her husband's being such a jackass these days, they're going to have to do some kind of daycare. Might as well be shorter hours per day, during the week. I can keep her son for less money than a daycare would charge, and I know he'd be happier staying with me and my boys.

In case you're wondering about the daughters, she knows I can't keep all of them. I get stressed too easily, and 5 kids- with 3 of them not being mine- would be too much. And I wouldn't be able to fit all the car seats and booster seat into my Blazer if there was an emergency. But the girls will do better in daycare than her son would.

I don't like this either. She told me that his med is one that only stays in the system 24 hours... The problem is, well, they say that about Effexor, too. And am I not living proof of the problems going off a med like that can cause?

I need to find out the name of this med, and what his dx was exactly. During the time when he saw the doc and was put on this med, we weren't talking much (no particular reason, just circumstance,) so I missed the details of that.

From my bro-

A Department of Water Resources Representative stops at a Texas ranch and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, I need to inspect your ranch for your water allocation. The old rancher says, Okay, but don't go in that field over there.

The Water Representative says, Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me. See this card? This card means I am allowed to go WHEREVER I WISH on any agricultural land. No questions asked or answered. Have I made myself clear? Do you understand??The old rancher nods politely and goes about his chores. Later, he hears loud screams and sees the Water Rep running for his life and close behind him is the rancher's huge Brahma bull. The bull is gaining with every step.

The Rep is clearly terrified and running for his life, so the old rancher immediately throws down his tools, runs to the fence and yells at the top of his lungs,

YOUR CARD, SHOW HIM YOUR CARD!!!

It's definitely not Ritalin, I remember that she told me that. I just can't remember what it is. Ritalin's been horribly overused in our area, and there's finally beginning to be a backlash where no one wants to use it... slowly but surely. It's gotten to the point now, where there are literally hundreds of kids on Ritalin in our school system.

Teachers in a couple of the Elementary schools were pressing parents to put their kids on Ritalin for every behavioral problem... I've even heard mothers saying that teachers have been hinting that their children won't be passed to the next grade unless they're put on Ritalin. It's getting to be a real mess. :(

While I believe that ADD and ADHD is WAY over diagnosed, I do think my friend's son has some form of it. His behavioral issues were getting pretty severe before he went on his meds. He just didn't listen to ANYBODY, for anything, and didn't give a poop about any consequences. It's possible he's beginning to grow out of it, though, and the reason I think that is because even tho he's off his meds, he's still easier to handle now than he was last summer.

That may be one reason why she doesn't want to medicate him constantly, indefinitely. I'm wondering if his med is one that only lasts for like 8-12 hours, and really does wear off. There are meds like that, too, like Vistaril... I dunno. Obviously, it'll be something we discuss before I start keeping him. I'll need to know the dx, and what he's on, and when he's on it. (If there even was a concrete dx... in general, doctors don't have a problem medicating kids in this country at what seems like a drop of the hat.)

But yeah, I'm going to give it a try! I hope it works out, because it could be good for everyone involved.

My silly friends,

this is even quicker than a drive-by or a poop-in.

I updated on my tragedy thread, re-read it, changed it. It was too......preachy or something.

Okay......so...........the peace with which I awoke is gone - - my heart is POUNDING out of my chest and I swear, I feel like I"m going to actually have a heart attack.

And, my mouth is so dry I can hardly talk. Sweating.......shaking.......trembling and feeling like I'll pass out any minute. Mygawd, I can only imagine what my poor David is feeling.......he was already a nervous wreck this morning. :(

Still roaming around the house, frantically praying........

After this is all done, I am pretty sure I'll have that whole thread removed.......kinda sorry I started it, but - - I have to say, it HAS helped me and meant so much to me, all the wonderful thoughts and words and sentiments.

Love you all

gotta go - update later today but it may be done privately.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.
