I got a question for all ye canucks out there . . . I'm in charge of planning the 2009 vacation (this will be the eighth year with the same family). We are looking at some other locations besides South Carolina (Sorry, Sarah, might not be coming through next summer like I thought). What do you guys got up there that might be worth visiting? Some requirements . . . swimming pool and kid activities and a four bedroom rental house (and if you ask my husband, a beach). . . Oh, and we're driving so don't be sending me to the Yukon.

Hmmmm...well, I guess it depends on how far east you wanna drive. If you want to stay within the Toronto/Niagara area, I can strongly recommend Wasaga Beach....Open Original Shared Link

Georgian Bay is a pristine place...truly magical - - lots to see and do there. The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is terrific, as well.....Niagara-on-the-Lake is a beautiful old town.

PeOter can chime in about the greater Toronto area.....

Keep coming east and you're in my territory....Hell, everyone should see the nation's capital! There are wonderful cabin/beach areas closeby (Gananoque, Wakefield) and you can see all of the wonderful things this city has to offer.

Ottawa is a four and a half hour drive east of Toronto.......

 Okay, lemme make sure I've got this down.... . .. .scrotum first.... ....then penis......ironing..... . . (we could slide "lesbian" in here, as it does make one's face look so nice when enunciated).....all right, and after all that, anal glands can be tossed out.

Since I'll be interpreting this year.......I am SO out of practice.........I have been practicing like CRAZY, so everything I hear and read is switched to sign in my mind..............................looks like there's some words I still need to look up! ....................although I DO know penis and lesbian :P

patti

meat tenderizer works for jelly fish stings......

I thought you were supposed to pee on jelly fish stings

Hey guys . . . remember me??

hey Janet!!! Welcome back to the neighborhood!!!

Here's the stupid part <_< .....we left all of the upstairs windows open  It wasn't pretty--my son's bed, for instance, soaked--pillows, comforter--everything. Carpets, furniture.....we've been blotting up everything we can with every towel in the house. I haven't watched TV all weekend--didn't know it was coming.....it was freakin SUNNY when we left the house.

I did that once......only it was a tornado :o . After work I had stopped at the store, then headed home. I had just driven into my neighborhood when the storm hit. (didn't know it was a tornado at the time) I got home, ran into the house and up the stairs to shut the windows. My bed.....which was under the window.......didn't get wet, but the dresser on the other side of the room did!!!

I was lucky, cuz at that moment, the street I had entered on, got hit by the tornado (2 blocks from my house)

IRONING????. ........is that a fancy word for spraying with water and throwing into the dryer?

Well pholks, I am absolutely pooped!!! Had family over yesterday...........first time fixing a gluten-free meal for people other than meself and hubby. My DS and his wife made a stop at our house on their way while moving from Pittsburgh to Naca...Nacodosh.....( hold on , now where did I write that down?)..........Nacogdoches, Texas. He's been accepted into the Master's program at Steven F. Austin University in wildlife research and ecology...or something like that. He had already moved down there and has been taking summer classes. He is employed by the university so he gets paid plus his tuition is free.

Then today DH and I went DANCNG!!!!! My legs will not want to go to sleep tonite! :(

Shouldn't be too hard..... :P First, get the children away from the computer. Use your dominant hand (I'm a lefty signer) and point your index finger. At waist heighth, in front of you, bend your wrist so you are pointing down. With your other hand, point and touch the tip of that index finger to the side of the wrist of the first hand. Now dangle your *penis* by swinging your handle slightly, left and right. Hmmmm.......that'll probably get some interesting comments from Ptaughmn!

Yeah , we're proud of our boy. It took him years to find a professor who had an opening AND had the funding to take take him. He will be doing research on weasels, spotted skunks, some kind of bat, and badgers.

Ooooh..I'd have to get my dictionary for that one. I imagine *sling* would have some kind of gesture about the arm..........would have to modify it for a more accurate visual effect.

Morning, Sillies!

Okay, I'm ready to pracitice my penis sign.....

Index finger? I suppose you could change that to another finger (or the thumb <_< ) depending on to whom you are referring........ .

Well described, Lisa! Okay, how about "lesbian", then? I should think this word makes the hands look beautiful when signed.......:lol:

Busy day. Jack starts a Robotics camp, where they are working with Lego, and incorporating working motors and gears to make amazing things. Wonder if he could make me a fing that would dart about and clean my house? <_<

I may whisk Elsie into the vet....I've been trying to avoid this by treating the rather deep wound she got up at the running trails myself....DH doesn't know what happened, as she was in his sight the whole time. It looks like a big stick poked into her. Anyways, it does seem better as I've been diligently attending to it with hydrogen pyroxide and an antibiotic cream. We shall see.......

Eleven days until the opening ceremonies in Beijing! So exciting..... . . .

Okay, how about "lesbian", then? I should think this word makes the hands look beautiful when signed.......:lol:

That one's easy. Form an *L* with your dominant hand using your thumb and index finger. Bring your thumb to your chin so that the index finger is in front of your nose and tap twice on the chin.

To be fair, I should explain *vagina*.....plus I find it rather accurate interesting :P Form the *L* with both hands and put them together to form a sort of triangle. Make sure the thumb PADS are touching, which causes the thumbs to point downward. Unfortunately, there IS a bit of a size discrepency when you compare it to *penis*............sorry guys.

Well, I think I'm gonna pull up some more carpet today...........just one room left to do..........I don't think the trash guy likes me very much.

Hey Amanda. :)

We went to Pilot Mountain State Park on Saturday afternoon. Only minutes away (and free  ) We don't go nearly enough. I grabbed the camera, but the batteries were dead. That happens so often, I am quite certain Ezra picks it up and turns it on when I'm not looking. Random pictures (often tv screen shots of Scooby Doo and Batman) back up the theory. It's a pretty crappy camera, anyway, which is why I so rarely have new pics. I'm going to ask for a new one for Christmas.

We may go to Hanging Rock State Park next weekend. That one's not much farther- over near where my parents live. Maybe a 1/2 hour to the park, tops. And that one has tons of waterfalls and a lake.

Yesterday, I began the battle of recapturing one of my gardens from the weeds. It's completely grown over. :( One sick spring/summer is all it took. But a lot of the mulch had washed away; that didn't help. I need to rig some kind of retaining wall and re-mulch. I'm thinking about using logs. My dad's always cutting down scrub pines on his property to thin out the little woods. I've used the cut logs in a couple other areas and they look really nice surrounding a garden. I can't stand paying the outrageous prices of the retaining wall bricks.

In case you're unfamiliar, scrub pines are extremely tall pine trees, whose trunks never get thick enough to support the height. (They probably grow in lots of areas, but they are everywhere here. <_< ) Therefore they are in constant danger of falling down every time it storms. Furthermore, they are butt-ugly because they only have a few scrawny branches near the tippy top.

BUT! If you cut the trunks up, they can be very useful. :) When we cut them down in the winter, I also have made wreaths from the branches and pine cones at the top. I like the natural-looking wreaths.

Right now, the boys are out playing in the kiddie pool. Luke has an appt at the eye doctor later. He leans his face about 6 inches from whatever he's reading or writing. He's done that off and on for quite awhile, but now it's every time. Either he needs glasses, or I need to be yelling at him about posture!

I'm probably going to make him an appt with the family doc later this week. The dairy-free diet is doing nothing for him so far. I know it's only been a couple weeks, but... I think we should have seen something by now. If anything, his constipation is getting worse.

Once when he worked a summer in Utah he encountered a young mountain lion at night. Not too threatening, but........he didn't know where Mama was. The protocol for that is to have your light on your forhead and your flashlight facing backwards (so they don't know if you're coming or going), and make a lot of noise while quickly leaving the area. His co-workers on the other end of the radio got a big chuckle out of that!

Is signing 'helicopter' fun?

Actually, I just learned that one!...........Make a fist with your non-dominant hand with your thumb sticking up. Place the palm of the other hand , fingers apart, on top of the thumb and wiggle fingers while moving hands away from you..................wait............there's not some hidden meaning that I'm not aware of, is there??????? <_<

Interesting. I would've made a peace sign & toungued between. Or is that a verb?

:o OK, I DO know what THAT means.....and it's NOT sign language.(But you already know that!) THAT was demonstrated by a 4th grade boy when I worked at an elementary school. I think it was used as a verb in that situation, as, a charming little girl gave him the finger, and that was his response \ :P /.....sorry....I couldn't resist.

I'm gonna have to start charging for signing lessons! :P I'd have to look up roller coaster to know for sure, but I suppose it's close to what one would imagine. Barf is abot as graphic as you would think.......and fart is the only one I've seen signed from behind. I would have to do more research on diarrhea, because in my book it is similar to poop, which, according to the Deaf community here in Indy, is actually sh!t.......can't remember the acceptable sign.

Our land is about 2 1/2 acres. Do you guys use acres???

The problem is, the whole thing is cleared. The woods and creek edge our property.... but we literally have a 2 1/2 acre yard. There are 2 Bradford Pear trees in the front of the house (not close enough to provide shade,) 4 more to the side of the house, and one lonely maple tree in the whole huge back yard.

Now, when we decided to get this house, I was jumping for joy at the thought of working this blank slate.

Yeah. Seriously.

My long-term goals are to build something like my dad has done at his house. For pics of his backyard paradise, check this out: Open Original Shared Link

That's my dad's website. I think the link I attached shows the best pics, but to see more projects, look under Photo Essays in the menu at the left. I need to get after him to post some good full-effect pics. He's made a pond (the qoi and gold fish have gotten huge,) a multilevel waterfall, two decks, a water wheel, bridge, handmade statues, all interspersed with gardens and flowers. His most recent project was a well house- no pics up yet.

I think, after reading this, that you areso traumatized by not being able yo understand what your medical advisors have been  what medical conditions are that you would like to find a group of people who also feel traumatized who would agree with you and also support you. You are on a crusade much as the way the US Cabinet  official, the Health Director of our nation is in trying to change what he considers outdated and incorrect health advisories. He does not have the education, background or experience to be in the position he occupies and is not making beneficial decisions. That man suffered a terrible trauma early in his life when his father was assonated. We see now how he developed and worked himself into a powerful position.  Unless you are willing to take some advice or  are willing to use a few of the known methods of starting on a path to better health then not many of us on this Celiac Forum will be able to join you in a continuing series of complaints about medical advisors.    I am almost 90 years old. I am strictly gluten free. I use 2 herbs to help me stay as clear minded as possible. You are not wrong in complaining about medical practitioners. You might be more effective with a clearer mind, less anger and a more comfortable life if you would just try some of the suggestions offered by our fellow celiac volunteers.

Thus has got to STOP , medical bit believing us! I literally went through 31 years thinking it was just a food allergy as its downplayed by medical if THEY weren't the ones who diagnosed us! Im positive for HLA-DQ2 which is first celiac patient per Iran and Turkey. Here in the States especially in Cali its why do you feel that way? Why do you think your celiac? Your not eating gluten so its something else.Medical caused me depression. I thought I was safe with my former pcp for 25 years considering i thought everything I went through and going through will be available when I get fired again for health. Health not write-ups my health always come back when you're better.Im not and being tossed away at no fault to my own other than shitty genes.I was denied disability because person said he didn't know how to classify me! I said Im celiac, i have ibs, hernia, sciatica, high blood pressure, in constant pain have skin and eye issues and menopause intensified everything. With that my celiac nightmare began to reprove my disregarded disease to a bunch of clowns who think they are my careteam when they said I didn't have...I feel Im still breathing so I can fight this so no body else has to deal with this nightmare. Starting over with " new care team" and waisting more time on why I think I am when diagnosed in 1994 before food eliminated from my diet. P.s everything i went through I did write to medical board, so pretty sure I will continue to have a hard time.

@Scatterbrain, Thiamine Vitamin B1 and amino acid Taurine work together.  Our bodies can make Taurine from meats consumed.  Our bodies cannot make Thiamine and must consume thiamine from food.  Meat is the best source of B vitamins like Thiamine.   Vegetarians may not make sufficient taurine since they don't eat meat sources of taurine.  Seaweed is the best vegetarian source of taurine. Vegetarians may not consume sufficient Thiamine since few veggies are good sources.  Whole grains, legumes, and nuts and seeds contain thiamine.  Many of these sources can be hard to digest and absorb for people with Celiac disease.   You may find taking the forms of thiamine called Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and a B Complex will give the benefits you're looking for better than taurine alone.

@Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.
