and, in still other news.........

last night I dreamed I was with Patrick Swayze and his wife, on some small boat in the Caribbean, they made me call in "late" to work at some receptionist job I had, and wouldn't let me go back to shore..... They were really lovely, just wouldn't let me go back and told me it made no sense to go in late.

The waters were that really gorgeous, clear blue, with large creatures swimming beneath.....

what does it mean???????

That you have a thing for Patrick Swayze?

Hmmm............you think everything in your life is going smoothly (gorgeous water), but something just below the surface is going to rock your boat (large creatures). It will be a good thing (Carribean), but you are not so sure. You want to continue with your mundane, albeit safe life (receptionist), but your friends (Swayzes) know it is in your own best interest to stay and face what is coming.

:P:lol:

Merry Christmas, Llamalady!.........drunken animals on fermented fruit!:lol:

I have been very good.......no misery of the excesses for me!

 um, no, not at all.....but I DID see a clip from their interview w/ Barbara Walters last night, before I drifted off, in my mildly nauseated (but not even REMOTELY phaefie-fied) state of potato chips and absinthe haze

To strike a set means to take it down. We also struck the props and costumes. The play is done. We had good houses, but unfortunately the last show was canceled 'cause of snow.

Must go bathe. Just came home for a snack before the party  *sigh*

Maybe I should be glad that I don't have to lie to everyone about how tasty their store-bought, preservative laden food is. :P

Note to self. Must call Mom and thank her for teaching me how to cook.

Hey!

Ditto.

And no, I'm not the llama lady nor have I made off with her. Incidentally, why is it we assume it's a llamma 'lady'?

In other news, one of my old amalgam fillings started to fall apart a bit ago. Does anyone think that qualifies as an 'emergency' (doesn't hurt at all)? I found some holistic dentists in the area (sort of) but noone's open til Monday, but they all have the 'If this is an emergency, please contact:'

What do you guys think? I found a place that's open over the weekend but their answer was, "Well, there's no proof that removing amalgams hurts anybody and I guess we can put a rubber dam in there if you want." Wrong answer. Is there some kind of paste I can concoct at home and put in there temporarily? I'm scared to eat.

Last night I had to pull out my gigantic History of the British Monarchy book to read a bit on Henry VIII.

There is an image of one of his letters to Anne Boleyn and - I'd like to give you a few sentences from it:

"Campeggio aryvyd att Parys on Sonday or Munday last past, so that I trust by the next Munday to here off hys aryvall att Cales........."

and

"....no more to yow at thys present, myne owne darlyng, for lake off tyme, but that I wolde you were in mine armes or I in yours, for I thynk it long syns I kyst yow"

:o so either - I am thinking that King Henry was a PSYLLIE, or that........

we actually are royalty????

I think BOTH!!!! We are no doubt royalty and he is quite Psilly in his writing.

Lurved The Other Boleyn Girl....just too much material spanning so many years crammed into the short 2 hours <_< ....but Eric Bana, yummy, and on laminate list toot suite!!

To strike a set means to take it down. We also struck the props and costumes. The play is done. We had good houses, but unfortunately the last show was canceled 'cause of snow.

Did you tell us when the play was and talk about it whilst it was going on/after opening night???....am scratching my head about this, was I that out of it that I missed you discussing doing the actual play?!?!?!

My dad, watching her intently as she begins to try to tackle "Crucible", perhaps by breaking it down into syllables, suddenly says quietly, "The Crucible?".........

Isn't that something! Bless their hearts--all these years together has put them on the very same wavelength :D

I look like a bowling pin...

Well hi there, LL!! :D Under normal circumstances, this sentence might appear odd...... Not here, though :P

STRICT Edna starts for me tomorrow!!!!!!

(as I sit here and eat the last of my creme de menthe brownies for breakfast )

 I hear ya Julie! Mine WILL begin on Monday. JP and Jen are coming tomorrow for our family Christmas dinner, so I'm partying one more day. I've been cooking me darn (sorry Jan-it) fool head off today. I just made a huge pan of German potato salad, pistaschio salad, 5 bean salad, and a chocolate pie. Tomorrow, I'm doing the roast pork, candied carrots w/ brown sugar and cinnamon, and tomato and mozzerrella salad. Not to mention the pre-dinner munchies. :P

I'm not gonna be able to phit into any of me pants pretty soon

ANYTHING with the word salad in it is healthy

bacon salad

Hee! I was gonna mention bacon  When do I ever NOT mention bacon

Another car to dent.....perhaps more neighboUrs to maim. . . . .. ..

Gawd, at least you have a wee respite!

we actually are royalty????

But of course--we have a Queen, don't we

Patrick Swayze? Sooooze, I do hope you helped him get around the boat, maybe taking over the keel now and then.....he's such a sick man, right now. . . . . . . :(

I know, poor thing. He has the same cancer that me grandma died of, but this was 20 years ago, and so much more is known now. I'm really pullin' fer him.

Didn't mention it much. The first weekend I was too tired. Second weekend kind of sick (poor little Oliver lost his voice completely). And third weekend was all that snow.

Just too many other things going on I guess. But it all went well, and an Oliver with barely a whisper is all the more pitiful. For one of Oliver's songs, the Dodger (who is all of ten years old), with 5 minutes notice, sang Oliver's parts with his (actually her) head turned away from the audience and Oliver mouthing the words. There are some pretty talented kids in the world.

Bunnie, I wasn't ignoring you, I really don't know. I would think--and this is what I'd do--if it truly doesn't hurt, I'd wait till Monday. I broke a wisdom tooth on a popcorn kernel once, and couldn't get into the dentist for a day or two. I was in pain, but still. Anyway, I got put on antibiotics and ended up having it pulled since it was a wisdom tooth.

I don't know anything about the filling.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
    • cristiana
Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
