On the housing front- John and I just learned we qualified for the 1st time home owners tax credit of 8,000. We are allowed to claim it on our 2008 taxes as well. We have decided to pay off our one big credit card with it. They hiked my interest to 32%...I have never even been late.....I am so upset with them! I think something needs to be done with the credit card companies...

so happy to know someone who will benifit from these new laws.

good for you!

wow up 32% for paying on time......???

Patti - is Mark home??...I know you said he was due to land??

Yep! He got in on time and all's well :D Thanks all for asking

Oh, Psills.....not a good evening last night........

Sorry Em :( From what me doc told me, in general of course, this type is pretty slow-growing. We discussed the subject at some length, since he retained mine during my surgery. I hope her's can be taken care of swiftly with no lasting effects.

Amanda--My son is in the process of buying his first house and that tax credit is a great thing! At phirst, it was proposed that it would pertain to anyone buying a house this year--which would have included us, too. Oh well.....

I meant Matt will get it since he's a first time home buyer. When Mark and I buy a home in Houston, it won't be our first, so we don't qualify for the tax break.:D

Em, please ask Jack this . . . Have you ever wondered why we say 'Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty' but not Here Doggy, Doggy, Doggy'? . . . annnnnnnnd . . . Why do most cats respond when that's not their name??

Mygawd.....Jack will love this, and ponder it and google it and bring it up in circle time at school. . ...

My cats only come if we do the "Here, kitty-kitty-kitty" thang with their names....

"Here, Tess-Tess-Tess-Tess-Tess".... . ..

I think we don't do the doggy thing because "Here, Doggy-doggy-doggy-doggy" is just too frickin' difficult to say. . . . ....:rolleyes:

We all luuuuv li'l P....so de-bone-air in tophat and collar!

:lol: Me, too! Sounds vaguely Asian.....terrific name for a Chinese restaurant......""Hey, let's head over to Goo Luck for some o' their great won ton soup!"

As I was walking a million miles to the bathroom just now since there has been a new flood since I wrote the first time--who is high on their post count that could have caused this Phluid Phrenzy! To take down a portion of a hospital is pretty high ya think?

I was wondering exactly this, too, Amanda . .. . .....

Methinks Patti is quietly working there, in some capacity. .. ....she's the only one with a high enough post count that would cause damage like that with a flipover. What's Paghteigh's count??

Great news on the credit, Amanda! :)

Sorry about your friend, Em. I know there's a lot of stress involved, but please assure her that once she gets those womanly bits removed, she'll be delighted with the effects. :P

Amanda....you need to email your credit card company pronto! My card....which I've used since the early 80's suddenly cranked up my rate. I pay on time (I always pay the balance and avoid interest) and I have Eggcelent credit. I wrote and told them the rate was unacceptable, and if they chose not to re-instate my last rate I could easily find a company who would!!! I got an email back in record time and a letter to back it up. Rate back where it was and an apology! You can't let these businesses get away with robbery.....there's too much competition out there. If they think you'll just roll over and take...they'll do it to you. ;)

Great news on the 1st time buyers break!! Pretty kool.

Pah-tay....sounds like your having a blast up there! Good luck with all of that. Your son must be pretty excited......1st home!!! :D

Hello my lovely psillies! It's been almost a week! I had a major computer crash and Kurt just got it up last night! I was not only a phorum-less abyss but an internet-less ayss! EEK!

If I have missed anything good or bad, I apologize....hope everyone is well!

New York was phunny because me sis was a completely spazmoid the entire time! We drove down (I usually take the train but we decided to drive this time), got lost, and my sister almost peed her pants while driving in the Bronx. We got there, had no gas so they wouldn't valet our car so the concierge got in the car with my sister to take her to the nearest gas station about 30 blocks north.

She's sitting at a red light when "Knock, knock it's NYPD". $120 for not wearing a seatbelt. OOPS!

Then she had to wear sunglasses until 10 pm because she thought she forgot her glasses (and her cellphone and her Blackberry and her contacts :lol: ). I have a picture of her on my phone eating chocolate mousse in a very dark restaurant looking like Corey hart

She wanted to go to Macy's to shop but had to ask me if colors were normal on everything :lol:

Then, we left Macy's, she puts her hand in her pocket and VOLIA! There are her glasses in her pocket

We went to the butterfly conservatory at the Museum of Natural History. Twas lovely. My sis came to my appointment with me and has decided to get tested. My doc examined her (she was really curious if she had been exposed) and it looks like she has. :( Long story, but she is actualyy relieved to know it MIGHT be that rather than some of the other things she's been told she'd just have t live with.

We had a blast- wanted to stay another night! But am glad to be home with hubby, Angie and in me own bed (often-YAWN!)

Hiya Judester! So glad to see you poopin in more. The place is not the same without you. ;)

Been lovin the warmer weather....evenif it was rainy/windy today. Back to ````cold````brrrrrr tomorrow! Iyam SO desperate for greenandgrowing things! We do have daffodils and tulips coming up though. The deer will leave the daffs alone....but I'm willing to bet they'll find the candy tulips!

Been having lots of really strange dreams lately...and some kool ones. Dreamed of making copper arbors with huge dream catchers in the sides.....and dreamed of carving woodsy figures for the yard. I could be inspired to try both of them. Need to sketch out what I saw pretty soon or I'll forget that I even wanted to do this

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.
