If you remember, I sent this out via email a while back . . . but due to the subject at hand, it's worth repeating (plus not everybody's seen it) . . .

. . . and no, it's not about tortilla soup!!

Sherparding looks like it requires lots of alcohol & some great dogs. I think I shall become a shepherd.

Like, I have NEVER been able to become a shepherd.

I think I shall become a shepherd.

I wanna be a shepherd too :P

One of Mark's drivers was in the office this afternoon and they all got to talking about Valentines Day and what everybody's plans were. Mark mentioned that since I have some "food allergies" we're limited in where we choose to go.

Anyway, the guys says--"gluten?" Turns out he's been having symptoms and his sister had been diagnosed with Celiac (or so he thought) at some point. Mark called me and asked if I would talk to him, and we had a really nice conversation. Evidently he was never told it's genetic and that he should be tested. I gave him the 411 on it all and also my email address. :)

Jestgar Rising Star

Convince him to come here, we'll get all the dirt on Mark

Hey! Everybody wants to become a shepherd, now?!

'Tis fabulous!! We can all become a herding group....a shepherd tag team! But wait... . . . . there's this...... .

Apparently, I need to be ready to break the odd sheep's leg, carry sheep on my back, grow accustomed to smelling like wet wool, constantly be defending my herd from large predators.. . . . ...

How much does this gig pay, anyways?

Kehrrighn, simply take the picture out of any new frame you have just purchased (you know, the pic of the lovely frame model that is in there before you take it out, toss it and put in your own - - usually a lovely blonde woman in a fall jacket, smiling in a three-quarter pose, or a young child looking slightly off-camera), and put that up. I have several of them on my mantle. As a group, they remain much better-looking folks than anybody around here.. .. . . ....:lol:

'Mornin', big O'ers!

I will be curious to hear what everyone else thought of those ceremonies..... ...non-Canucks, specifically. I found only two or three parts of it beautiful, creative and thoughtful... . . ...much of it would mean nothing to those who aren't Canadian (hell, even WE likely weren't understanding all of the symbolism)....and, I dunno.. . .. . ...we seem to always try so hard, but coming after that masterpiece in Beijing, I guess everything would pale in comparison.

And that 21 year-old young Georgian man..... .. :(

I don't think the pay is great, but it looks like fun. My dog wants to join, too.

Mark and I attended a birthday party given by a Russian friend/co-worker of his for his wife back in Philadelphia. It was one of the most lavish affairs I've ever been to. When we arrived, the tables were filled to overflowing with wine, liquor, appetizers, fruits, pastries, etc. Then the courses began--about every 45 minutes or so a different one--meats, duck, lobster, on and on for hours. (I'm not kidding--we kept saying that this should be the last one...lol!) We wanted to leave around 1 AM and were told we couldn't because the cake had not come out yet! We did wait--and the cake was followed by even more fancy pastries.

Then, they sent everyone home with tons of food.....

I have never seen so much food at one party in my life--and the host, so gallant.....kissed me hand when he said hello.

Have a good time, Nik :)

mushroom Proficient

Yeah, I went to a Russian (Easter??) partay once. The food was overwhelming and impressive (and high in fat), but just as well we had so much food, because the wodka kept hopping out of the freezer for "toasts", bottoms up, drink the whole glass  Seemed like every half hour there was another "toast" to somefing or other, and then sometime much later *I* had to drive everyone home. I am not sure what my particular qualifications were 'cept I got everyone home safely and did NOT get pulled over and breathalyzed which, on this particular occasion, is just as darned well because I had no business being on the road and I was young and foolish and knew no better

Everyone needs to take a cab to a Russian partay

I didn't watch much of it. Put the tube on near the end to see who would be the final torch bearer. Gretzky would not have been my choice, but there you are.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
