They also require gatorade & Mt Dew. I will have them talk endlessly about servos & regulators, fireworks & violent vidoe games. Then they can hit each other & burp! I will tell them under no circumstances to help with the cooking, warming up, serving or cleaning up of the foodstuffs. Perhaps they can spill blue gatorade on MIL's lovely white blouse? The blue doesn't come out of cotton.

Once the ILs go home, you can have the boys back for dinner. They will make a gluten-free dessert & help you grill or make pasta. They can talk about movies & thier jobs and normal stuff.

My MIL told my hub when we were dating that we Catholics just want to have 12 kids & take over the world. 2 of her 3 son's married Catholics & one became Catholic.

Sounds like your boys are related to my husband. Our fridge is always stocked with Mt Dew and Gatorade. Although we are currently only drinking the real sugar Mt Dew. Will they mind no high fructous corn syrup or should I buy the regular stuff to encourage extra bad behavior?

To tell the truth, we really don't drink much. I will have wine or champagne for a special occaision but I'm not a big drinker. I guess moving calls for celebration. :P

Your MIL sure sounds nice. My MIL told my husband when he was a little boy that he should never get married. At all.

Isn't that common knowledge . . . hence the "no contraception" rule. Also, the Pope owns a ton of stock in the fishing industry. That's why we have the "no meat on Fridays during Lent" rule . . . it really brings in a lot of money. The financial resources for taking over the world has to come from somewhere.

We prefer the Throwback Dew! My MIL was a mess.

Manna, your IL rant has been SO timely for me. . . .. ....my MIL is currently here, staying with us for three weeks (she's here three times a year, usually), and while it is difficult for me to tolerate her in anything more than very small doses (and moderate, regular doses of alcohol are standard procedure during her stay), I now feel quite fortunate after reading your situation. Man.. .. . . . ...actually, maybe if we started moving every year, she would stay away from the prospect of bathtub -for-a-bed........ . . .. . ..hmmm....ya got me thinkin'.. . . . . <_<

And did you catch how Canadian Kate's hat is. Look closely. Those are red maple leaves. Totally Canadian, eh?

So true! Unfortunately, if she were to visit me, she would put wheat stalks on her head. :angry:

No way, I could tolerate the IL's for 3 weeks! Actually I can barely stand my own parents that long. After a week I'm ready to leave or have them go home if they are visiting me. I always considered myself to have a good relationship with them too compared to most my friends relationships with their parents. I guess I'm a bad adult child. I love them they just annoy me after so long....glad I could stir up some promising solutions to your IL situation however. Maybe instead of moving you could choose to be remodeling the guest room or have a roof leak only over the guest bed or something? Close the doorway off with caution tape and tell them they will have to sleep in the bathtub instead?

oooh, so happy I don't have an MIL who would descend the day before I move. I like my own mother. I might even have her come pack, as she is a master packer. I always have a moving crisis on my own, so adding another stressor would not help.

Another vote for the bath tub approach!

(And happy canada day)

A bit of silly history, for the newbies.

This thread was started almost three years ago by Richard (TriticusToxicum). It took more than a year to reach 200 pages, at which point the phirst poster on page 200, Bev (Mntdog) was declared to be the Queen of the Sillies (normal spelling was still in effect). Since then, the first poster on a page which is a multiple of 100 becomes the King or Queen for the next 100 pages (1,500 posts).

I joined the group on page 327 in November of 2007, with a post about Amanda's honeymoon. :ph34r:

Members have come and gone since then, but there are a lot of us who have been here for a long time.

*Go to page 1700 and read on to understand the quick turnover. :rolleyes:

Due to some posts having been deleted from the thread, you will see a different version if you go to the hundred-multiple pages. The chronology reflects the ascensions as they happened.

If you read the whole thread:

1. You need to get a life (I did read the whole thing when it was 327 pages);

2. You will understand about parades, the yeti, and the Royal Courtiers;

3. You will realize that we will talk about ANYTHING here, and there is never TMI;

4. You will still not understand our obsessive need to discuss private body parts.

Welcome to all the newbies! This is a safe, phun place to hang out.

Thank you for the brief history. I guess I will just nod and smile. I have no life but I'm too lazy to read it all. :lol:

Actually, didn't it come about because of a typo? One must be careful here, because typos can become part of the 'normal'. Like Jess's civkebs :P

Are they really esoteric, POeter?. .. ...

This just kills me every time. I remember clearly when Oracle POeter joined this bunch, wondering what was going on, and we all sent him off with instructions to read the whole thread before participating further. And HE DID!! :lol:

Nope. This one was not a typo. There was a lengthy exchange about three thousand pages ago about Home Depot, and I wondered aloud if there was a "Ho Depot" anywhere (two letters burnt out on the sign).. . . . . . .then we pondered what would be sold at such an establishment, if there would be scratch and dent sales, if they would accept rainchecks.. . . . . ....

That seemed to move to my HOT tub being called a ho tub, shortly after I found, incredibly, a crutch tip at the bottom of said tub when we drained it for the summer.

We played 20 questions -- Okay, you need to try to guess what was sitting on one of the seats of my tub when we emptied it this afternoon... ... . ..

:lol:

I think Ptaoughmghmn eventually got it.

After a couple of hints.

Nice history. I had also thought perhaps it was a typo that became part of the vernacular. So dare I ask how a crutch tip got in the ho tub?

      So, I've been using a gluten free labeled toothpaste since being diagnosed with celiac. No big deal, the toothpaste seems to work. Question is, I just realized it contains hydrated silica.  Now, I've heard that silicon dioxide can cause issues in some people with celiac (was that ever confirmed though?), so to be safe, I cut it out of my diet entirely. But, as I understand it, hydrated silica is related to silicon dioxide. Is that something to worry about, or is the hydrated form not known to cause issues like the silicon dioxide form?  I've never seen it in food, but nearly every toothpaste I look at contains hydrated silica?  Issue or not?  Any scientific research (Not opinion pieces, not health bloggers, you get my gist), but actual science, that says it's an issue? I have a hard time believing 99% of what I read on random internet searches.    Thanks so much, Renee.

      Since 2015 we've spent extensive time in Italy and I've been able to eat their wheat products without incident. Initially, I was practically starving thinking foods in Sicily were not gluten-free.  An Italian friend who had lived in the US for over 20 years said she had celiac/gluten-free friends from the US who could eat Italian wheat products without problems. Hesitantly, I tried little by little without issues.  A few years later at a market, I asked a bread vendor if they had gluten-free loaves. Turns out she had lived in LA, said groups believe it's not the gluten that's causing our bodies harm, but potassium bromate; these groups have been trying to ban it.  Bromines and other halogens wreaks havoc to our endocrine system and, more specifically, our thyroids and immune systems. When bromines are ingested/absorbed into the body, it displaces iodine causing other health issues. Potassium bromate is a powerful oxidizing agent (dough 'conditioner') that chemically changes flour to enhance elasticity, bleaches the dough, and ages the flour much faster than open air.   Shortly thereafter while visiting friends in California, one family said they had gone gluten-free and the difference was incredible. The reason they choose this path was due them (a biologist/chemist/agriculturist scientist) having to write a portion of a paper about a certain product for the company he worked. Another company's scientist was directed to write the other portion. All was confidential, they weren't allowed to know the other company/employee.  After the research, they learned gluten was being removed from wheat, sent elsewhere, returned in large congealed blocks resembling tofu, and then added to wheat products. Potassium bromate has been banned for use in Europe, China, and other countries, but not in the US. Then we have the issues of shelf preservatives and stabilizers. What are we eating?  Why? We spend long periods of time in Italy and all has been good.  We just returned from an extended time in Greece;  no issues there either.  There is a man there we learned about on a travel show about Greece who walks the hills, picking herbs, pods, etc.  He is a very learned scholar, taught at the university level in Melbourne. It took a few days to locate him, but were finally successful. He too, is concerned about the additives and preservatives in American food (many of his customers are Americans, haven't been in the best of health, and have become healthier after visiting him). He suggested taking a food product from the US and the same product in Europe, and compare the different ingredients. Then ask why these things are being allowed in the US by the 'watch dog' of our foods and drugs. It would be amuzing if it weren't tragic. I'm presently looking for flour from Europe that I can make my own bread and pasta as the gluten-free bread is now $7.99 a (small) loaf.  BTW, studies are showing that many gluten-free individuals are becoming diabetic. My guess is because the gluten-free products are high in carbs. This is only my experience and opinion garnished by my personal research.  I hope it helps.

      Symptoms that get worse if you don't supplement is a sign of malabsorption, possibly due to Celiac disease. Blood tests for nutritional deficiencies are not very accurate, and should be done when you have been off of supplements for eight to twelve weeks, otherwise the vitamin supplements you've taken will be measured.  The blood circulation system is a transportation system.  It transports the vitamins you've absorbed around the body, but blood tests don't give an accurate picture of the vitamin and mineral stores inside organs and tissues where they are actually used.  You can have "normal" blood levels but still have deficiencies.  This is because the brain demands stored nutrients be put into the blood stream to supply important organs, like the brain and heart, while other organs do without.   If you are taking Thiamine Mononitrate in your supplements, you are probably low in thiamine.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many supplements because it won't break down sitting on a shelf.  This also means Thiamine Mononitrate is difficult for the body to utilize.  Only thirty percent of Thiamine Mononitrate on the label is absorbed and even less is able to be utilized by the body.  A different form of Thiamine called Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.   Talk to your doctor about doing a genetic test to look for Celiac markers.   I'm concerned that if you do a gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum off two weeks) in your weakened state, the nutritional deficiencies will become worse and possibly life threatening.

      Hello, good afternoon!   I apologize, I didn’t see a notification and I’m just reading this. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and the link. Yes you are absolutely right, even so trying to get a response from them has been extremely difficult. They don’t answer but I will your practice of “guilty until proven innocent.”   I like and have a sense of trust here in this website, everyone is honest and thoughts are raw. The mutual understanding is amazing!   thank you Scott!
