Cold and drizzly here. I want to see how much I can trim my budget to save for school, and prepare to live without an income. I usually get all excited about things, and then drop them so striking while the iron's hot.

I have my glasses on. I usually read under them. I looked at this post and the bottom glasses frame was over the "save for school" and I read it as "save for alcohol".

Either is a worthy cause!

And far easier to stay motivated to achieve!

Happy Thanksgiving, POeter and Jacquie! Here in eastern Ontario we have been breaking records all week, and today will be no exception.... . ....it will be 84 F, with a humidex of 89.. . . ...... . I think I will be putting on the A/C, as the oven will be on through the afternoon... ... . . ......And we could very well be eating our Thanksgiving dinner this evening out on our deck, sporting shorts and sundresses.....

No fireplace, no mulled hot cider.. . . . .. ..'tis bizarre, and fantastic... :)B)

A bit cooler here, Em, with expected highs today and tomorrow of 77F. But an extraordinary Thanksgiving weekend! Enjoy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving Canadian Folk!

I might be getting an electric bike. :)

One of the guys on the 6:20 boat is a bicycle commuter so I asked if he had an opinion on electric bikes. He said 'My wife might make you a deal on hers", so they brought it over today for me to try for a while to see if I like it. :)

I want to use it to commute to the boat, since it's only four miles. Getting there is fine, but coming home is all uphill. A bike would be so much nicer than the bus.

Electric bike - my, how sensible!! I might even ride a bike if I had one of those :P

Happy Thanksgiving to fellow commonwealth members - we don't do that, but we do do mid-winter Christmas just for the heckofit (I,of course, am never here).

We are awaiting summer with subtle promises everywhere, cherry blossom and daffs in the garden, but the wind today says, "Wait just a minute there!" Brrr.

Hellos dear psillies,

This will be a quick one (can't sit at the computer too long). I believe that keeping positive and surrounding myself with loving friends (even if it's via the internet) helps keep me strong.

I'm posting this on the psilly thread because other than being thankful to my doctors I still find it funny. I got a prescription for medical marijuana. I'm looking forward to getting my card and returning to the 60's except it will be legal this time biggrin.gif. At least something good is coming out of this. I was taking up to 8 percocet a day. I rather make magic brownies. Now I have to wait for my card and then find a compassion center. Right now RI has only licensed three. It was supposed to be 15 but the governor wouldn't allow it. I will share with Clark. Will keep you updated on this journey (I try to visualize what the compassion center looks like). Do any of you watch Roseane's Nuts? She has an episode called Weed is Whack and she goes to a center in California to procure it. I'll keep you all posted on my new journey.

I hope you're all doing well. I've been reading the thread and emails so I think I'm caught up on almost everything. Rachelle - you are a GREAT mother!

Love & misses to all, Love, Loey

Maybe post the recipes in the baking thread? ;)

T'heck with drunken typing, we're gonna get "magic muffin" typing.

Why, yes... .. ....in fact, I just sent an email out to everyone, musing about how we would enjoy it around here if you, Jyessss, could manage to get a script for the stuff.. ..... . . :P

Actually, I imagine that magic muffin typing would not be nearly as exciting nor entertaining as drunken typing. \It'd go something like this:

Well.... . . .......heyyyyyyyyyy.... . . ...

Ya...heyyyy.. .. ......

SO... . ....man, it's like... ... ...... . ...

* snort * .. .. . .......* giggle*.... . .. ... . ..*snoooooooort *.. . . . ..

First ride to the ferry went fine. Only glitch was parking. The bike barn has 12 ride-up spots, and the people before me had taken all the lower hooks. I tried and tried, but cold not lift that 50 pound bike one handed over my head while guiding the front wheel into the hook. Found some racks down stairs which only required hauling the 50 pound bike up stairs.  Anyway. Managed to get all the way home despite living at the top of a hill.

We'll see how the thighs feel tomorrow.

I bought a Kindle!

One of the new $80 ones.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

This sounds exciting!!....but am wary.

Do I sound really old fashioned when I say I love the feel & smell of a proper book blink.gif

Do tell, what's an electric bike?? ...pretty sure you could manage a 4 mile commute on your own steam Jess, on a push bike?? (banging the drum - am obsessed with riding my bike where I can. Apologies - am a bike bore wink.gif)

I bought an Ipad and so far all I have figured out to do with it is play Majjong :o I am supposed to be able to operate all AV equipment in the house with it - I guess they have to do something to it first

No no Shrooms!, I pretty sure iPads are solely for playing 'Angry Birds' .

Anyhoo - who's up for tea and 'cake' round Loey's later?? wink.gifwink.gif

I also prefer the paper version of books, but I became extremely covetous when I was in Spain and saw a family wandering the cathedral with all their guide books in that one skinny piece of plastic. It's also quite nice for throwing in the backpack for the commute. Pages don't get squooshed, if you finish one book you have another right there, and more and more textbooks are available electronically. No angry birds, though.

Although 'tis only 4 miles to the ferry, it is uphill all the way home, with the last 1 1/4 miles being a slowdown hill for all but the most intense bikers. Even with the power assist I was working hard to get up that thing. I figured I'd work my way up to getting a real bike by using this to build my thighs (as if my thighs need to be any bulkier).

Jyesss the Amazon, powering up Sisyphean mountains!! 'Tis fantastic.. . . ...great quad work, but make SURE to stretch 'em afterward! B)

Must say, I as well have deep, sentimental love for real-page-turning. .. ..ripped and smooshed paperbacks and texts in suitcases.. . .. ...LOOOOOVE that feel of the cover of a new paperback as I open it for the first time, feeling it yield when I push it back, the spine bending.....yup. Tough to make a li'l plastic screen open up.. . . ....and it ain't got no spine.. . ...

When will I move ahead with the times??

Anyhoo - who's up for tea and 'cake' round Loey's later?? wink.gifwink.gif

I'll bring extra gluten-free munchies!!

Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.

My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
    • trents
Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.

I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
