I'm hoping that the mall we go to has a Spencer Gifts. They have a whole stock of outrageous gifts. I also have time to order him the scrotum.

Love,

Loey

OK, this was under health but there are some humorous items (depending on your (warped) point of view.

Love,

Loey

P.S. anyone have a favorite? I just found the Spencer's Web Site. I'll paste it below the Amazon sex toys.

Much to catch up on!....not enough hourS in the day!! blink.gif

This is un- Psilly but I guess this is where to put it.

My mom has some heart issues. A Fib occasionally and an aortic heart valve that functions at about 30%. We have been managing this and we're planning to enroll in a study of a percutaneous replacement valve.

Tuesday night, she had a stroke. At first, it didn't look too bad. Then Wed, she had some odd heart emzymes and a bleed was showing up in her brain. As of today it seems she isn't as bad as it looked yesterday. It appears her left arm, leg and side of her face are affected. She has some movement. The Rehab doc saw her this evening. He thinks she can regain most of her function with rehab.

Anyway, that's what's been going on here.

K, I'm really sorry to hear this.

My Mum has also had a stroke (well 2 actually - but she needed to even the score out as she's also had 2 heart attacks rolleyes.gif)

She has recovered far better than we thought possible (although with my Mum it didn't affect movement or speech - her sight and feeling in the left side was affected)

The brain is a pretty magnificent thing the way it compensates.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for your Mum x

Oh no! We need new leadership! Shall I abdicate?

I know this is a bit late and all, but I have a small wee confession to make. I did not know that Kherrignne was our monarch (with apologies to your majesty). I believe the phlipover happened whilst I was mid-Pacific and I must have missed it, and I kept thinking, gosh, Ghianitt has been kkkkkkkween for such a long time......

So now I will be saying, gosh, Karen has been kween for such a long time....

Was I kween at some point? I try not to do that . . . I don't like being responsible for stuff.

:P

I don't like being responsible for stuff.

Me neither. But it seems like whenever something bad happens, they say shroomie is responsible

And now hotmail is saying I am responsible. Having allowed my account to be hacked (it was not my computer - paid $70 to find that out  ) and sending emails to everyone and changing my password to something that even I can't remember hardly, I trry to log on this morning and suddenly hotmail tells me that my account has been blocked because it was hacked. (Heck, that was three days ago!!!) And then they ask me all this awful stuff to try to recover it like the subjects of recent emails which I couldn't remember except the "virus akert" one with the typo - maybe that will help me, and then they asked me my special question which I signed up with 8 years ago and it is such a generic question that it could change every year and I couldnl't answer it before when I was trying to change my password.....

So anyways, guys, I may or not have email on hotmail - they will let me know in 24 hours. I will send a PM to someone with my new email and would appreciate your sharing it because all your addresses are on my hotmail address book

Her leg does not seem to be effected. Its her left arm, hand and side of her face. She actually keeps moving the left arm & hand around, doing her exercises!

M & I went & decorated her room, tastefully. At first she said "Why?" head down, depressed tone. But once we stated putting them up she was enjoying us making M reach up high. A cute male nurse came by & said "Great! Just no falling! I will be in soooo much trouble!" (smiling) When we got done, the sparkly snowflakes started falling down. The tape just pulls the glitter off & they fall. We left a few up so my mom could see when the snow falls. She did like it. It adds some color. The staff will like it, too.

She noticed a lady next door has a Christmas blanket on her bed. :o

OHHHH, my aching head!!!!

Spent the entire day trying to recover my hotmail account.

Just whenI had totally given up I decided to try to log on and see what was happening, and I got on with a password from gmail :o:lol:

Now I have to go and change my gmail password so that if someone hacks my hotmail agaom they can't hack my gmail too. And then I spent the rest of the day copying all the documents I had stored on hotmail (yes, I know, but it was convenient because I sent emails to create a journal... well, I won't both 'splaining) and then copying my address book, one address at a time, into a wordpad document, to import into gmail and to print out so that I have them all someplace else!!!!. So there went another day of not doing Christmas cards which were supposed to be done on Saturday, but there was a spontaneous neighborhood Christmas party, and then were supposed to be done on Sunday, but my sister-in-denial suddenly became a partial believer and asked for some reading links, and since most of those are on my US computer I spent half the day trying to recreate them for her. and here it is almost 5:00 p.m. on the Monday before Christmas and I have done no Christmas cards !!!!

Well, a couple of glasses of wine have put things in a new light. There's always tomorrow - it's still not Christmas yet, and now I have my email addresses again I can email the psillies instead of mailing them, and email Australia, and if I get everything in the mail by Wednesday for NZ they still M I G H T arrive by Saturday  (Our outgoing mail closes at noon in our rural 'burb - goes across on the ferry and goodness knows what happens to it after that  )

I hope your mom improves each day. I'm sure the decorations cheered her up. I know putting up our tree and our holiday shopping cheered me up (although I can't walk very far or for too long - I felt like an old geezer - there were all these old ladies zipping by me.). We got Tony a Scarface Tie, a bunch of books (one titled Go the F*** to Sleep). The mall was very busy. I also went to Michael's and spent WAY too much money but I'm making presents.

Tomorrow I have an endoscopy so I might be offline a day or two. For some reason whenever I have anesthesia it takes me longer to snap out of it. Anyone else have this happen? I just pray that 2012 brings all of us good health and happiness and finds us surrounded by those we love most. I wish we could all teleport and get together because I love you all like family (yes, I'm getting sentimental).

Love,

Loey

P.S. Karenggg, are you going to get your mom a christmas blanket?

I just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Holiday weekend if I don't get a chance to get back on here.

Sorry for being so absent lately. I miss you all. It's about that time to pack up work and head for home... This is when the panic attacks start and the yoga breathing sets in... :(

Love you all!! :wub::wub::wub:

Just in case I'm offline before the holiday weekend I want to wish my very special and very psilly family a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and any other holiday you celebrate. I also wish you all a healthy and happy New Year. May 2012 bring us all the health, happiness and the good fortune we all deserve. I feel so blessed to have all of you in my life. Celiac might be the least of my medical problems right now but I wouldn't trade a minute on this forum (I actually haven't looked for one for leukemia or lupus because I get all of the support I need here).

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?

I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
