1st Pregnancy And Worried

Hi there, I just found out that I'm pregnant (7 weeks, 4 days) and this is my first pregnancy at age 39, so I'm very anxious.

My question is: I have felt intermittent nausea for several weeks - is this normal? I thought the nausea would be pretty constant, and at times, I feel pretty good.

Thanks for any feedback

Very normal! Don't be worried, I have many friends who have had kids over the age of 40. I had my youngest at 35.

Keep hydrated, dehydration makes the nausea worse. Blood sugar swings do, too, so watch that you eat a protein with your carbs.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!! What wonderful news :D

Nausea is perfectly normal--and the pattern is very much individual. Every pregnancy is different. I had constant nausea with my first that lasted almost the whole 9 months (and it didn't help that he was 3 weeks late!). With the second, I had it for 12 weeks, and then it went away overnight.

I'm glad that yours isn't constant :) I'm so happy for you--keep us posted!

Congratulations! How exciting for you!

I've never been pregnant, so I don't have any advice, but just wanted to extend my congratulations! I think everyone's symptoms vary---some feel great, some feel crappy, and some are in between. Sounds like you are in between :)

The other thing is, ---anything strange can be normal during pregnancy :)

Thanks for such quick replies. I know nausea is normal, but when I'm NOT nauseous, I'm afraid something is wrong. That's really my concern at the moment...

It is completely normal to have nausea off and on. You are still very early in the pregnancy yet...you could see the nausea get a bit stronger yet, and more constant, or it just may go away...such an individual thing!

Do keep snacks around to help keep nausea at bay. It's can be especially helpful to have a snack before getting out of bed so that you don't get up feeling hungry and woozy. Finally, you may find that nausea is related to particular foods. I found, when I was pregnant, that I had to avoid foods I normally loved because of stong tastes and smells (especially broccoli)...stuck with very bland foods with my boys. For my third pregnancy, a girl, I craved strong foods, especially pickled ginger, salmon and curries.

I think it's also normal to be worried when you aren't feeling crummy . . . it goes along with the fact that this is all very new and very important to you. I didn't get worried much with my first pregnancy, but when I was pregnant with my twins I was constantly worried that something had happened to one of them (not really sure why . . .). Every time I went in to the Dr. I wanted an ultrasound, just to be sure they were both still okay. Didn't GET ultrasounds that often, but I WANTED them! And they both made it, in spite of my panicky wonderings about whether something had gone wrong.

Just know that it can be perfectly normal not to be nauseated all the time. I would often get sick if I waited too long to eat. I'd know that I was going to throw up, eat something easy to vomit (like mashed potatoes) and then go back and eat the rest of my meal. For me, throwing up once was usually enough to get the sick feeling out of the way, and I'd be fine afterwards. This is not true for everyone, of course, but it worked for me. So most of the time I felt perfectly fine. I have a friend, on the other hand, who threw up 10 - 15 times everyday for her first 4 pregnancies. It's highly individual . . . but not feeling sick isn't necessarily a reason to panic. It's just a reason to be grateful! :D

Try not to worry. When I was pregnant with my son, I did not throw up once the entire pregnancy. I barely had any nausea at all- symptoms can vary so much! Hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones with barely any morning sickness!!

Congrats on your BFP!!! Happy and helthy 9mos to you!

If I may interject from a dad's point of view--

When my wife was pregnant with our daughter, she was naseous for almost the first month, and then we were VERY worried when it just went away. We found that some plain toast in the morning before her feet even hit the floor helped the most, or some weak ginger tea.

Congrats. I think you'll fins the next 8 months will fly by! :)

Congratulations!

I find that if I eat small snacks regularly - every 1 1/2 hours then I'm really don't have much nausea anymore, but if I get the least bit hungry, then it comes back. I'm 10 weeks now. Some people don't have it at all, so there are all sorts of things that are normal.

I know what you mean about being nervous. I had a sonogram at 6 weeks and I saw it and its heartbeat and I was so excited. Now it has been over 4 weeks since I have seen it and at my last appointment it was too small to hear the heartbeat. I still feel pregnant and my belly is getting bigger, but sometimes I wonder if it is really in there and doing ok. I think it will be easier when I can feel it move because it is constant reassuance that everything is ok.

Sometimes if I get freaked out I just think that I'm doing the best I can and if anything did go wrong, it wouldn't be my fault and there would be nothing I could do about it, so it is better just to be excited and try not to worry about it.

Good luck!

Congratulations!

I'm 15 weeks and my nausea definelty came and went from about 7 weeks to 12 weeks. It depended on the day, some days I was fine. It is hard not to worry, but some women never have nausea and baby is just fine. And it's normal to be nervous, I've been nervous plenty!

For me, eating when I started getting hungry was a huge key, I carried around almonds with me-that really helped!

What a great source this is! Thanks for all the advice.

I had an ultrasound last week and we saw the heart fluttering - tech said all looked good. My next ultrasound isn't for 2 more weeks (will be almost 10 weeks then) and I'm very anxious for it to get here. Trying to live like a saint!

I have increased my vitamin intake Vitamin B Complex plus 2 Thiamax, NeuroMag, Benfotiamine with breakfast. I continue reading and watching gluten free items that I eat. Breakfast is Bobs Redmill gluten-free oatmeal with Chobani zero sugar yogurt a banana and blueberries. Lunch since im at a deli gluten-free is hard to come by so I stick with turkey with gluten-free Promise bread. Dinner varies like gluten-free pasta, tacos, chicken, sausage, meat etc. rice or take out from gluten-free places. I have decided to stay away from gluten-free pizza as I feel I felt weird with it unless its store bought frozen. I am going to try to make my own gluten-free bread, Bagels. I have been good with baking gluten-free treats like cookies, muffins. Snacks if its not fruit, veggies I grab a protein bar or chocolate guilty pleasure reeses, hersheys, York PP. I am going to start to use my fitness pal app to track what I eat and note when I feel off to see if I can pinpoint if a trend of a certain gluten-free food is a culprit. I noticed once in a while I feel a little bloated, gassy that I think is from the pizza so I am going to avoid it and continue narrowing it down. I have been doing very well and I have learned even if you think you are doing everything 100% gluten-free eating it can sneak in without you knowing. This year is more traveling which im afraid of but have already looked into gluten-free places in Nashville which they have and back to Aruba I went last year and have the gluten-free places already selected. Most restaurants I have been to have been very helpful with what to stay away from to avoid CC. If a place states they don't have any gluten-free the I stick with a salad or when I took my kids to breakfast as much as I miss the breakfast this place serves I played it safe with yogurt and a fruit bowl so at least my kids were happy to go there again. Local farmers market has great gluten-free items that I treat myself to like different types of breads, baked goods. My journey continues...

After waisted time of new care team, yet again EXHAUSTED saw new gi today in Modesto, though all my ailments im not getting any kind of concern of me being celiac and sentive to just about everything since menopause. Dr daid why don't I go see you guys because my blood shows zero for celiac. I told him im glutenfree since 1994 by colonoscopy with biopsy positive celiac sprue by GI.Its RIDICULOUS when im bringing in material from this site of knowledge as well as the autoimmune institute, and  there's zero interest on their part.Medical IS causing me depression.Im view as a disability chaser, IM STILL RECOVERING from being a bus driver that im still healing and having more issues, now I may have multiple sclerosis or meningioma. Ive reached out, wrote letters, NOT feeling well. This is inhumane.
