Whole Foods Favorites

Going to Conneticut next week and will finally get to go to a Whole Foods.

There are so many things I haven't been able to find. I know I want the coconut oil.

Any recomendations for soap, shampoo, conditioner? These are the main needs but I have to have sodium laurel sulfate free.

Any favorite suggestions would really be appreciated.

I'm soy, corn, dairy, grain, free.

Thanks. :)

Hi Lee :)

I use (and really like) Shikai Everyday Shampoo and Conditioner. I'm positively addicted to the smell :D . Also, the Zia line of facial care is very good--I use the Moisturing Cleanser. Not all of their products are gluten-free, so read labels carefully with them. But I love what this cleanser does for my skin! I use Jason Supersmile Toothpaste--love it, too. Nice mint taste (not artificial) and my teeth really look a little brighter. (No kidding!) No SLS in any of them.

I also really like the Boylan Cane Cola--not too often, but sometimes when I just want a soda. It has no corn or gluten. It does have caffein, though (from coffee)

For baking, Spectrum Organic Shortening is great--works just like Crisco in recipes.

I actually don't need to go to WF much anymore since Wegman's opened--it's closer to me and has all of these brands.

Have fun there--let us know what you ended up getting.

Thanks Patti,

I will look forward to trying the products you recommend. They sound real good.

I'll see if she has a wegmans near her also as I don't have one here. Heard good things about that place.

Any particular hand cream you use? I'm using Johnson and Johnsons baby cream now.

Do you use hair gel or molding mud? I'm using Sebastian Molding Mud but don't know if it is gluten-free- they have not got back to me. I love that stuff. :P

Lee--

I still have a bottle of the Gluten Free Savonnerie Lotion from last winter--I'm using that up. Then, I'll be on the lookout for a good one, too! Let me know what you find.

For my hair, I use Dove Soft and Smooth Anti Frizz Creme. I don't use a gel or mud.

If there is a Wegman's nearby, do go and have a look--it's worth it! :D

Their gluten-free bakehouse sandwich bread is the best pre-baked. My preference is to bake the gluten-free pantry sandwich bread but theirs is the best of the pre-bakes. As always, personal preferences come into that since a lot of people recommend Amy's mix or the enjoy life pre-baked and I didn't like either.

If you are going to be any where near Glastonbury (Garden of Light) or Hamden (Thyme and Season) or Stratford (Nature's Way), check out one of these stores. For my time and effort, they have a bigger range of gluten-free products (foods and personal care) then Whole Foods.

The Whole Foods stores in the Northeast tend to be small, compared to Whole Foods stores in the rest of the USA. Since they have less space, it is not the same experience as a Whole Foods elsewhere.

She just emailed me that she has a Wild Oaks real close. Man I am going to be in gluten free heaven. I know nothing about that place either. I'm asking about favorites because I don't want to be in there ALL day. :P

Thanks cmzirlelback and Tim for your suggestions.

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
