I don't have time to cook a nice meal when I get home. I would like to just throw everything in the crock pot before I leave in the morning and have dinner ready when I get home. Please, if anyone has any crockpot recipes or ideas, please share!! Thanks!

Here are a couple of my favorites. However they aren't "all day cookers" type of recipes. They only cook for a few hours each.

Still very tasty!! mmmmm

Loaded Potato Soup (Crockpot Recipe)

Makes 8 servings

4 pounds new potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices

1 small onion, chopped

2 (14 oz) cans chicken broth

2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 pint half-and-half

Toppings: shredded Cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, green onion slices

Layer sliced potatoes in a lightly greased 6-quart slow cooker; top with chopped onion.

Stir together chicken broth, salt, & pepper; pour over potatoes and onion. (Broth will not completely cover potatoes and onion.) Cover and cook on HIGH 3 to 5 hours or until potatoes are tender. Mash mixture with a potato masher; stir in half-and-half. Cover and cook on HIGH 20 more minutes or until mixture is thoroughly heated. Ladle into bowls, and serve with desired toppings

Hot Fudge Cake

1 C packed brown sugar

1 C Flour

¼ C plus 3 T unsweetened cocoa

¾ C packed brown sugar

2tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

½ c milk

2T margarine or butter melted

½ tsp vanilla

1 ¾ c boiling water

Mix 1C brown sugar, flour, 3 T cocoa, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl. Stir in milk, melted margarine, and vanilla. Spread over the bottom of the Crock-Pot.

In another bowl, mix together ¾ c brown sugar and ¼ c cocoa. Sprinkle evenly over mixture in the crock-pot. Do NOT stir.

Pour in the boiling water. Do NOT stir. Cover and cook on high for 2-3 hours until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping.

(recipe is for use with a 3 ½ quart crock pot)

beef stew is great in a slow cooker , chilli is another , I do a slow cooked pork butt with homemade bbq type sauce on low all day great , tender .

all these meals are easy to do , and stew is cubes of cheap beef lightly browned off in frying pan, put in crock , where you browned beef add an onion or leek chopped , some garlic alittle seasoning, when soft add to crock, then add some chopped carrots, potatoes , both sweet and white, some green beans if you like mushroooms then take pan and add water and heat then pour over everything in crock , should just cover ingred . start and put on low for 6-8 hours . I throw some biscuits on or start a loaf of bread in machine that morning. dinner on .

alot of these things can be done on weekends when have more time . clean and baggy vegs , do all chopping, cube meats. divide ,label, then in morning just brown off your meats and throw all in crock , most 20 mins and you can be getting makeup done , whatever while meats are doing browning just lower heat then procede, or brown off meats night before , chill and procede in morning .

my chili is the knock off for secret recipe;s wendy;s chilli . I just spice it up with more hot pepers from my garden and change out the beans for part black beans ,part pinto , soak night before and drain off in morning , then add to crock.

my bbq sauce is an old recipe ill dig out if u want it but use bottle gluten-free one if you have one you like. just brown off pork but then throw in crock with your bbq sauce at least half way up then turn low and let go 8 hours . the pork will fall apart and smell heavenly, and so good for sandwichs during week or in taco;s .

Jessica, what kind of flour do you use for the hot fudge cake? Do you need to add xanthan gum or make any other adaptations?

I have made it two different ways and both turned out great. I usually use Analaise Robert's flour mix, however once I was out so I used Bob's Red Mill All Purpose gluten-free Flour Mix and both turn out wonderful. I don't use any xantham gum because it's a gooey crumbley cake anyways so I don't waste the gum in it.

The very best way to enjoy it is hot and topped with vanilla icecream mmmmmmmm

Enjoy!

We had a B&B and my roaster (same idea as a crock pot) was my time saver. I generally didn't even use a recipe. I just put whatever sounded good into it and put water in so things wouldn't burn. If I wanted a gravy of sorts I would throw in some gelatin!

Roast, carrots, pots, celery, onion, salt and pepper, water. Turned it on low heat, around 250-300 and let it cook all day.

Chicken, pots, celery, peas, onions, salt and pepper, water. Add some rosemary for a tasty change.

Chicken, rice, peas, celery, onion, salt and pepper, water. I finally did change from a whole chicken to boneless, as it was harder to get the bones out once it had cooked up tender.

Brisket, rubbed with "Grub Rub" www.grubrub.com with some of the fat trimmed....cook for several hours in water. Then trim extra fat, cut up into pieces, put back into cooker and let cook in the juices for how ever long you want. Add pots and any type of vegetable either in the beginning or if you want it more crispy then later.

Lazagna...put a layer of meat sauce (cook hamb ahead of time) on the bottom, layer non cook lazagna noodles in single layer over sauce (I think this works even with regular laz noodles) add, more meat mixture, put another layer of cheese and cottage cheese (optional) followed by more sauce. Repeat ending with a sauce layer making sure all the noodles are covered. Cook on low till done.

Spagetti...put meat sauce (hamb cooked ahead of time) (use lots) in roaster or crock pot. Add broken up noodles. Stir so that all the noodles are covered. Cook slowly till tender. Whatever temp you set it at will determine how long it takes to cook. Low can cook all day.

You can keep all these things warm as long as you want and eat them whenever you want.

Check out Canada's Best Slow Cooker Recipes by Donna-Marie Pye. The recipe on the cover, Zesty Orange Beef Stew, is excellent. I used potato flour instead of wheat flour when browning the meat and it turned out perfect. Lots of recipes without flour, or easy enough to substitute for ones with.

Just FYI - if something says to cook on high for 4 hours, it can also be cooked on low for 8 hours...just double the time :). And nothing I've ever made has gotten overcooked by leaving it in on low for longer than planned. I love making roast beef - i'll make it w/ some potatoes, onions, carrots, and mushrooms. I'll serve it w/ rice, or just as is. i also like to use left over meat for enchiladas, tacos, nachos, etc. YUM!! I also will make a corned beef brisket once in a while. It was my husband's fave childhood meal. Just follow directions on packet...add some water and cook. He likes it with rice or potatoes and mustard for dipping. We'll also make sandwiches.

I just throw in a roast, vegies, seasons, a can of vegie broth and water and cook it all day. You don't have to have a recipe for a slowcooker. just don't try and make dumplings and put the thing on high all day, you end up with what we now call "poo poo stew". I love to crockpot! It's just EASY and YUMMY!

I love my crockpot too!

My son loves Italian Roast ~ Brown a chuck roast, throw it in the crockpot with a jar of spaghetti sauce and cook on low all day. Serve over tinkyada pasta!

Awhile back, I posted a recipe from allrecipes.com for Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup. It's in the recipe section of this site now. We all love that too!

I make homemade chicken stock and beef stock in the crockpot too.. I use chicken legs, cutt up an entire onion (skin and all) into quarters, large pieces of celery and carrots, Mrs. Dash and celery salt. Cover with about 8 cups of water and let cook on low for 12-18 hours. Let cool and strain into a large bowl. Refrigerate and skim the fat off the top. Repackage into freezer ziplock bags in usable portions. I do several 1 cup servings and a larger one for soup. Lay flat in freezer to save on space and to ease in thawing.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
    • trents
You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
