Why Did I Just Spend Half An Hour Hugging The Toilet?

i think it should be outlawed to have a bad day on your birthday. i think it should also be outlawed to have that bad day hang around for an additional even crappier day!

so here's the deal - been feeling sick most of the day (blood sugary headache...nauseated)...then just emptied my dinner in to the toilet. not feeling much better....

could it be --

1-dinner i ate an hour ago? shepherd's pie from Amy's...ate about half of it...wasn't very hungry

2-drugs...i went to dr yesterday to get antibiotics for UTI (woo hoo), took one last night, one this morning, have yet to take my evening pill

3-OTC UTI medication-the pain relief stuff that turns your urine orange (and subsequently, my dinner and my throat)

4-just a bad bad blood sugar day :P didn't eat enough this morning, been paying for it all afternoon

5-stress...big paper due tomorrow, was working on it all afternoon

blah, mostly needed to vent, but if anyone has any words of advice, that would be appreciated :)

thx all

ps....NOT a puking person...like once a year or so...usually comes out the other end :P sorry

I won't eat Amy's anymore. Amy's Shepherd's Pie got me big time! I was in incredible pain after eating that.

Hope you feel better soon!

Hugs.

my husband thinks it was the food. I doubt only because I usually have a different response to food. I thought it could be the medications, or the stress, as I have made myself ill in the past over anxiety.

He's also suggested that I could be pregnant (which I highly doubt....)

I want my mommy :(

Husbands just aren't the same when it comes to comforting and nursing...

I vote antibiotic, if it's a newer one to you. Biaxin does that to me.

Yikes, I'm sorry you had such a horrible birthday!!! I have only had one UTI in my life and it was the most miserable experience. I was nauseauted to begin with and then I took the meds to help it. I am hoping you feel better soon. Take it easy for a couple of days, your body needs to heal, and then make up a new birthday this year, you deserve to celebrate!!!

Guest nini

Antibiotics can do that to you, but I remember reading something a while back about Amy's Shepard's Pie being cross contaminated and a lot of people getting sick from it. I have one that's been in my freezer ever since, I just won't chance it.

Steph -

Sorry you had a crummy day . .. unfortunately, birthdays can be like that once you aren't living in your mother's house. You almost always have to make your own cake, on top of making dinner and doing the laundry and all the dishes. BLAH.

And I was actually going to suggest the pregnant thing . .. . but I usually found that I felt a lot better as soon as I threw up (well enough to go eat again . . . and usually well enough to keep it all down the second time).

Give me a call, and we'll play sometime. Maybe we could make you a late birthday cake!

Antibiotics usually upset my stomach. Sounds like what happened to you is a combination of food, meds, and stress. Hope you feel better soon.

For me its the Amys. I got sick on way too many of her things. It also could be the antibiotic. I hope you feel better soon.

3-OTC UTI medication-the pain relief stuff that turns your urine orange (and subsequently, my dinner and my throat)

I took those pills once and they made me feel so nauseous and horrible and I have never taken them again. I don't know what was up with those pills. I took them years ago and I was playing a video game and I still feel nauseous if I see the cover of that game today. Those pills really messed with me. It was the wierdest thing ever. The antibiotics were fine.

It's the pills that turn your urine orange.

I took them and threw up for 24 hours straight....

Dear SweetFudge,

I am so sorry to hear how ill you have been. :( I always seem to be sick on my birthday, too.

I can so relate. This year will be tough, too since I have to go gluten-free. I am going to miss my usual cake! As far as the UTI goes, drinking two cups of cranberry juice daily helps kill that. Blueberry juice is better, but more difficult to find. Drink one cup of cranberry juice early and then again later in the day. The acid kills the E. Coli bacteria causing the infection in your bladder. How strange is it that a bacteria that is best known for causing terrible food poisoning is also responsible for UTIs? Anyhow, I hope you feel better soon. Also, are you hypoglycemic? I am as well. Eat small frequent meals throughout the day. Blood sugar levels can make you very ill if they drop too low. In severe cases, even convulsions can occur. Take it easy, and hope you feel better soon!

Sincerely,

Thanks all, feeling mostly better...a little UTI achy still.

Now that I'm not so sick, I should say that I did have a good birthday, mostly. We went to Carrabbas and it was SO good! I get so excited when I go out to eat and DON'T get glutened! Only happened a couple of times though :)

Question, should I eat some yogurt? My mom said that I could easily get a yeast infection b/c of the antibiotics. The directions that came w/ the drugs even said they cause them. I still think I'm sensitive to dairy, but I'd deal w/ that if it prevented a yeast infection. How much should I eat? For several days, or would one dose do it? Thx!

Betsy, well, my husband had my MIL make a gluten-free cake, and it was decent. Tasted like angelfood cake w/ corn meal. She iced it and put strawberries on top. I thought about bringing it by your place cuz I couldn't eat it all...but I was too sick, so it just went in the trash after a couple of days.

We definitely should get together. What I would love to do is make some good cookies! I'm trying to eat healthier though....but those chocolate chip cookies you made were delish! What's your schedule this week?

And Jesscarmel, Nov 1st is my bday. Close enough :)

Noglugirl, yeah I'm hypoglycemic, really severely. That's why this last week threw me off so much. I felt so blood sugary sick, but I was eating!!!

Hm, I have another box of the orange pills that I haven't opened...think I might try and return them <_<

Anyway, thx everyone for caring!

Dear SweetFudge,

It sucks being hypoglycemic. I get really sick from it, too. As long as I eat frequently it helps. There is a diet called the Zone that naturally balances your blood sugar. It is equal amounts of lean protein, carbs, and fat. I am currently badly addicted to sugar, and trying to get off of it. I need to eat more healthy carbohydrates for my blood sugar's sake. I also may have an overgrowth of yeast in my system, which causes the cravings and low blood sugar. You are right, I agree that you should do something to counteract the antibiotic causing a yeast infection. I take L. Acidophillus, a probiotic. I am currently taking Flagyl for a bacterial infection, and have been feeling pretty rough. For two days, I forgot about my acidophillus, and got very sick due to the lack of good bacteria. :( I cannot have yogurt anymore either. My doc told me not to have any dairy, particularly casein. You can get these friendly bugs at healthfood stores or even at Wal - Mart. Cool fact: the bacteria in your intestines divide every half hour. Acidophillus can also prevent food poisoning, or at least lessen its impact. That is another reason I take it. To avoid getting bugs, since every time I have gotten the stomach flu it seems to take me a month to get over it. I have done a lot of research on Yeast Candida, and wrote an essay on it. If you like, I can send you a copy. Just tell me your e-mail!

Sincerely,

Oh, you know. Stay home, take care of kids. Do it again the next day. I just finished "final editing" a gluten free cookbook my friend and I are writing, so I've got more time now than I did a week ago! We just did a gluten-free cookies class at the orem macey's . . . sugar cookies, gingerbread, and peppernuts. In fact, I still have peppernut dough in my fridge . . .I may need to go make some!

Give me a call or send me a PM and we'll make some christmas cookies or something!

Sounds like your life is about as exciting as mine! lol! Good job on the book! I'd love to order a copy from you :) Do you get the herald? Did you see the article yesterday about celiac disease? I also found a yummy looking recipe for peppermint cookies. What I really wanna do is make some white chocolate chip ones...i got the chips, but mine always turn out flat and crunchy for some reason...maybe we could work on that :)

is tomorrow too soon for you?

Dear Sweetfudge,

I use sweet rice flour. Cookies are my specialty. Cookies are my passion! I am looking for some g.f. casein free chocolate chips. Any recommendations? Chocolate chip is my favorite. I have a lot of my own recipes, and so far they turned out well. I got a Swiss Colony catalog the other day, and those foods are so beautiful, I could stare at them all day! I would love to create petit-fours, multilayer tortes, and candies such as ladybug truffles, snowman cremes, and penguin chocolate cremes for people like us! What do you think? NoGlu Foods? Biscotti, brownies that are super fancy drizzles with caramel and chocolate...I better stop before I have an orgasm or something. LOL!

Just wanted to add that checking B12 and Vitamin D only is not going to give an accurate picture of vitamin deficiencies.   B12 Cobalamine needs the seven other B vitamins to work properly.   You can have vitamin deficiency symptoms before the B12 blood level changes to show deficiency.  You can have "normal" B12, but have deficiencies in other B vitamins like Thiamine and Niacin, for which there are no accurate tests. Take a B Complex supplement with all the B vitamins.  Take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which has been shown to promote intestinal healing.  Thiamine Mononitrate found in most vitamin supplements is not easy for the body to utilize.  What makes thiamine mononitrate not break down on the shelf also makes it hard for the body to absorb and utilize.  Thiamine and Niacin B 3 deficiency symptoms include anxiety, depression and irritability.  The brain uses more Thiamine than other organs.  Take the B Complex and Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine or TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) and look for health improvements in the following weeks.

Hello, @rei.b, Ehlers Danlos syndrome and Celiac Disease can occur together in genetically predisposed individuals.  Losing ones gallbladder is common with celiac disease. I'm glad Naltrexone is helping with your pain.  Naltrexone is known to suppress tTg IgA and tTg IgG production, so it's not surprising that only your DGP IgG and DGP IgA are high.   Have you tried the Autoimmune Protocol diet designed by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, a Celiac herself?  The AIP diet helps lower inflammation and promotes intestinal healing.   The AIP diet is a Paleo diet that eliminates foods that can cause intestinal inflammation until you heal on the inside, then more foods can be added back in.  The low histamine AIP diet will help reduce inflammation further.   Histamine is released as part of the immune response in celiac disease.  Foods also contain various amounts of histamine or provoke histamine release.  Lowering the amount of histamine from foods helps.  The body, with help from B vitamins, can clear histamine, but if more histamine is consumed than can be cleared, you can stay in an inflammatory state for a long time. Cutting out high histamine foods is beneficial.  Omit night shades which contain alkaloids that add to leaky gut syndrome found with celiac disease.  Night shades include tomatoes, peppers including bell peppers, potatoes and eggplants.  Processed foods like sausages and gluten-free processed products are high in histamines.  All Grains are removed from the diet because they are inflammatory and provoke histamine release. Blood tests for deficiencies in B vitamins are notoriously inaccurate.  You can have vitamin deficiency symptoms before blood levels show a deficiency.  Blood levels do not accurately measure the quantity of B vitamins stored inside the cells where they are utilized.  The brain will order stored vitamins to be released from organs into the blood stream to keep the brain and heart supplied while deficiency occurs inside organs, like the gallbladder.  Gall bladder dysfunction is caused by a deficiency in Thiamine Vitamin B 1 and other B vitamins.   The eight essential B vitamins are water soluble and easily lost with diarrhea and constipation, and the malabsorption and inflammation that occurs with celiac disease.  Because they are water soluble, the body can easily excrete any excess B vitamins in urine.  The best way to see if you are deficient is to take a B Complex and Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and look for health improvements in the following weeks.  Most B Complex supplements contain Thiamine Mononitrate which is not bioavailable.  The body has a difficult time utilizing thiamine mononitrate because it doesn't break down easily.  Benfotiamine has been shown to promote intestinal healing.   Remember your intestines are in a damaged, permeable state.  Treat them tenderly, like you would a baby until they heal.  You wouldn't feed a baby spicy bell peppers and hard to digest corn and nuts.  Change your diet so your intestines can heal.   I use a combination of B12 Cobalamine, B 6 Pyridoxine, and B1 Benfotiamine for pain.  These three B vitamins have analgesic properties.  They relieve pain better than other otc pain relievers.

I hadn't been eating gluten free before having the antibody test done. I started eating gluten free after having the test done because the gastro PA told me to eat gluten-free for 6 months. I'm now 3 months in.
