Okay I have read the articles on this ... Last April ... my 8 month old was eating grains for two months ... and then came down with Roto virus.( tested positive and every one in the family had it ) after the virus cleared up ... he could no longer eat grain. I believe that the roto virus did prompt the celiac disease to become active. ( I am in the anger stage of my grief lol ) Anyone have any thought on this ... Seems this came out as I was expirencing it for real.

I've had the same suspicions with my 2 year old. He was 9 months old when he was hospitalized for Roto......it really did a number on him, we nearly lost him b/c the crappy hospital we took him to couldn't get an IV for 8 hours. Anyway, after that whole mess, he started having stool issues until we finally made him gluten free about 6 months ago. So, I've wondered the same thing about Roto....he's doing much better now on the diet, all his skin problems went away too!

wow. this is weird. Nicole had rotvirus when she was 1 yr and she got much worse after that too. Also right after the roto she got the flu, and pneumonia within a 2 week period. It was a bad winter

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
