Reocurring Yeast Infection?

Guest AutumnE

Recommended Posts

Guest AutumnE

Im gluten, corn, dairy, soy, grain free and do not eat yeast, berries, melons, or grapes due to allergies and intolerances. Im still having problems with reoccuring yeast infections. I dont get true yeast infections where it feels itchy and raw most of the time, but everytime I turn around I get the yeasty kind of odor I contact my gyn and sure enough its a yeast infection.

Im going to do the candida water test I found online tomorrow morning. I read I should cut out all fruits and add garlic and onions to my diet. How long do I cut out fruit for to give it a chance to die off? Im not looking forward to more restrictions but Im really getting sick of this. Its my fourth one since going gluten free in may!

Any advice at all appreciated :)

I would also take a good probiotic.

I take garlic in pill form, it's easier and less odorous. Also use coconut oil -- I use it instead of butter on everything from toast to popcorn.

Avoid sugar and simple carbs. I don't know how long you'll have to cut out fruit. I cut out all carbs but veggies for six months.

Guest AutumnE

Thanks Carla

What probiotic do you recommend? Im not familiar with them, do I just ask for a probiotic at the health food store? I do use coconut oil on a regular basis since I read it was good for your thyroid, I dont eat sugar since almost everything has corn in it. This is going to be interesting.

I expect zero energy tomorrow, I hope Im wrong. Potatoes dont agree with me so Im nervous about my carb level being down to nothing. I read it was normal to not feel good while starting this, Is that true?

CarlaB Enthusiast

I felt bad when I was trying to get rid of candida. Do you have any idea why you have it?

I'm sure they can help you find a good probiotic at the health food store .... sorry I don't have any recommendations. The one I used to like is not gluten-free.

Guest AutumnE

I am guessing its because I have been sick a huge part of my life. Im actually to a point as to where certain groups of antibiotics do not work anymore.

Maybe I should wait for a week before starting it. Im sick right now, our family all has colds, and my munchkin has a sinus infection. My grandma is going to pass away in a few days too. Im going to need energy to get through the next week.

Thanks for all your help :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

If you've been sick a large portion of your life, keep looking for why that is ... or maybe you're doing better now since you've been gluten-free? I'd start taking the probiotic now, and maybe the garlic, I don't think that will make you feel bad.

Sorry about your grandma.

Hi

I am going to go do this flush right now and stick to it.

Try it:

Open Original Shared Link

I like this flush because you don't have to buy anything except for some acidolphilus. AND it is supposed to help you not have the bad reactions to removing candida. My problem is that I think I have Candida/Aspergillis in my head - I don't know if this flush will help that! Can't hurt. Try it, tastes gross, make sure you put garlic in it, and let us know if it works. Guess I will do it 3 days this time.

PS you can buy acidolphilus cheap even from local grocery store. Look in the vitamin section. Lactobacillus and Bifidus may be combined with it. Those three bacterias are the ones that keep yeast in check in the body - antibiotics kill the good bacteria and the yeast goes wild. Sometimes infections look bacterial, so they give you another antibiotic when it may be yeast related. They just feed the yeast!

BAD FOR YEAST (or at least not a food source):

Acidolphilus

Bifidus

Lactobacillus (these 3 can be found in yogurt)

Salt

Oil

Yummy to Yeast:

All Sugars (fructose, sucrose, refined, not refined, everything) including honey, fruit, etc.

Splenda

Aspartame (like in Diet Coke) (I just read some studies last night on Splenda and aspartame, yeast thrives

on them. Yeast likes splenda a little less than refined sugar but likes Aspartame more than refined sugar!!

They are calorie free for humans because we can't break them down - but YEAST CAN! Here I thought it

was Safe!!)

Glutens and other grains like soy

Dairy - because there is Milk Sugar called Lactose AND a protien that yeast uses for food - one study said

the only safe dairy is Butter

Plus other stuff I forgot

What is left to eat? If you can...

Nuts

fresh vegetables

cooked vegetables

meat

poultry

fish

eggs

maybe potatoes

I am not an expert, just trying trying trying to learn by researching because I am unwell.

Sorry about your grandma.

I was doing really well minus the yeast infections then I developed other intolerances. It took me awhile to figure them out but now Im starting to feel good again somewhat. My grandma is in a coma, has a blood clot in her artery in her leg so its developed into gangrene and an infection. She has been in a nursing home a little over a year. She hasnt been happy since my grandpa died 15 years ago so I know she will be much happier with him although no matter how much I try to pacify myself with that I cant imagine that the day is going to come soon.

angst2amity- thanks, its basically the same diet im following with just a few restrictions more due to intolerances. Make a new thread if you want to and I'll chat with you about it :)

Guest AutumnE

Well I never have tried the candida diet, I did start garlic tablets and acidophilus. I went to the dr last night, I felt like I couldnt breathe deeply and I found out its not a cold.

I have a throat and sinus infection and pneumonia! Im on 4 meds, hopefully gluten free because Im limited on what I can take and no steroid inhalers to help my breathing since I have glaucoma. I know they arent corn free since I have an upset stomach . I dont think I'll be on for a few days. My grandma passed away this morning and dealing with this has kinda put me out for awhile.

Never fear! The Yeast Queen is here!! :P I would suggest Theralac for a GREAT probiotic. Works wonders.

Here is LOTS of info on the diet. The "whole approach" plan tells you how long to be off fruits, etc. [see link below]

"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."

Five Steps to Candida Elimination:

1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.

2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]

3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]

4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]

5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]

It is SOOOO crazy that this website only allows certain links. The link considered "lame" is loaded with info. The site?? LYMENET ... yeah, a non-profit site!!! :( What's the big deal?

Autumn....I just now saw about your grandma. My thoughts are with you.

Limetoo,

Do you know, what if it is in your sinuses/brain? I know prognosis isn't good. But how do you kill it then - the same way?

Will find out my DX soon, MRI last night, surgery/culture next Friday.

Thanks!

Guest AutumnE

lymetoo- thanks for the info, That stinks about the website not allowed. I'll look it up :)

Thanks for the sympathies with my grandma. I havent been online because the problems keep going on and on. Hopefully they are done now :)

angst2amity Rookie

Hmm... AutumnE are you the one with the cracked tooth and the yeast problems? It sounds like you and I are having similar issues. Are you by any chance having sinus problems? Here is something similar to another post that I posted.

I had my second sinus surgery today 12/8 and my right sphenoid sinus (center of brain) was expanded and completely filled with a solid gelatinous fungus. So everything I ate made it very happy, grow bigger, gave me a fever, all of the antibiotics helped kill my good bacteria. This is so rare, about 15 doctors didn't believe me that maybe they should look at it being a fungus or Candida. The first ENT refused to culture!!!!! It got ten times worse! But maybe made me realise I might have CS - so maybe a blessing...

I don't know if the long-term fungal infection/candida? or celiac caused me some malabsorption issues - but I have lost many teeth due to them cracking and bacteria following the crack lines into my jaw, have had jaw reconstruction as well. My dentist actually suggested Candida of the sinuses 2 years ago - I thought he was silly! Guess that is what I get!

I am 32 and I feel about 104.

Guest AutumnE

Hi

Sorry Im not getting back to you till now, I havent had a chance to get online lately for any length of time. Yep its me with the split tooth also. Im sorry your going through the same thing. Wow, I dont have sinus problems other than this cold. But I feel so bad for you for having to go through it. Im so glad you found out so you can help yourself, I always say anymore they call it practicing medicine for a reason!

Have you started the diet? I did and let me tell you no energy at all! Im having a hard time with not taking naps with my 2 year old. I hope it helps.

btw- I have another yeast infection even though I'm on the diet. And this time its a lovely itchy rash!

angst2amity Rookie

Hi There,

Just spent lots of time in the hospital. Now they say it wasn't a fungus in my sinus but "foreign matter", my husband thinks that it was packing from a previous surgery and it had a bacteria mixed into it. I am really, really sick now. Nothing makes sense. My Dr. is going to send me to Mayo Clinic. Quit my job today. Getting tested for Lyme & Celiac - but my Dr. says those don't explain enough. I am wondering if I have some type of corn allergy as well. Allergic to Latex - the powder is corn starch. Allergic to sprayed Lysol - ethanol. Been eating lots of corn since gluten-free about a month ago. Corn starch in motrin, and vicodin. Corn starch in the powdered vitamins I have been trying to take. Corn is used to make the gelatin for coatings of probioitics. What if that bio-packing stuff was made of corn starch?? ARRRG!! Whatever it was - it had to be surgically removed. I am at a loss. I posted in the "OMG, I might be onto something" for that groups' input - lot of similar symptoms there from gluten, to candida, to corn, msg...

I think once you get a torn up gut. You can't handle anything - candida wins, Lyme wins (I guess a lot of people have it - just usually your body keeps it in check), anti-gladins win, sinus bacteria win, teeth lose :D , the spirit loses. So is it gluten? Is it candida? Even if I eat nothing, I am reacting to the antibiotics and steroids I must take right now to survive. The pain meds hurt as much as they help but they make me not care as much.

I talked to some pharmacies today to see if they could mix drugs differently or if they knew who could. They didn't even know what a compounding pharmacy was!

Sorry to go on. Just can't get up to do anything so am spending too much time online & shopping (I think the impulse buying is making up for all of the things I want to eat!!!!)

Guest AutumnE

I'm sorry your going through so much. A friend of mine had packing left in her after surgery. She had gastric bypass and after 2 years decided to get a tummy tuck done. They left packing material in her and it became infected. It took her a long time to get well, she ended up suing the hospital staff due to very serious complications due to it being left in. She is still not herself.

I cant have corn products either and let me tell you everything has corn in it. With my pneumonia I had no choice but to take cough syrup and medicines that had corn in it. I had to use an inhaler I shouldnt use because of my glaucoma. It stinks. Im back to joint aches, headaches, and sciatica due to the medicine I was on. I also get ocular migraines when I eat corn so my eye pressure is up which is not a good thing. And of course to top it off because the medicine was so strong I get a yeast infection even though Im not eating anything that should have yeast in it unless it was the cough syrup which I didnt use anymore than I had to due to me coughing up blood, my daughter looks at me funny from all my itching lately lol. Delphi avoiding corn forum is a good place for information on corn products also. I found I do best on birds eye frozen veggies, hamburger and chicken from empire kosher. I also borrowed my moms juicer and it helps to make soups out of tomatoes once in a while.

Im trying to throw myself into crafts with my daughter, with her being two my house is covered in holiday paper chains, pictures she made, and homemade snowflakes lol

angst2amity Rookie

My kids are 8, 5, & 3. I have been getting a lot of get well cards! Maybe corn is the missing piece, I don't know - seems to be everything. How long have you been gluten-free? When did you learn about corn?

Here I am in my life just going fairly smoothly. Had hundreds of ear infections as a kid- but that seemed to have gone away. Lost a few teeth here and there. Had a few miscarriages. Always had D & gas, but I thought everyone did.

Just going on smoothly.....then crash, smash, shatter

Gluten Intolerance, Sugar Intolerance, Corn Intolerance?, Lyme Disease?, Rheumatoid Arthritis?, Candida? ER trips, Hospital stays, Specialist after Specialist all within the last 2 months

A few confessions though: I have been feeding my children organic whole foods. I um, drank a looooot of coffee, took phentermine for 1 yr, and um drank about 8 cans of caffeine free diet coke a day. I really wanted to think it wouldn't impact me - I think I killed myself. :(

Guest AutumnE

I found out about corn I believe in september. I had diarrhea for a bit longer but it took awhile to figure out since as you found corn is in everything. It was about 3 months after going gluten free that I healed up enough to realize I had corn issues since I was absorbing it. I had ear infections too and had pe tubes put in, that and my tonsils being removed (which were huge and blocking the tubes to my ears) helped things.

I also had miscarriages and had my daughter with clomid, estrogen and progesterone suppourt. I didnt have diarrhea issues till a few months after I gave birth to her. I had autoimmune disorders all of my life. Besides candida, when I eliminate corn I found dairy and grains werent an issue (this is a recent find for me). I thought I was having problems with rice because I would react to rice noodles but they are made with corn so the only noodles Im fine with are tinkyada since they dont contain corn. I also thought it was dairy problems but the dairy had corn in it and once I had organic health valley milk I didnt have problems.

I did not eat the healthiest either before going corn free. It took awhile for me to adjust too but I feel so much better now. One thing that saved me regarding caffiene and soda was virgil's root beer. It has no caffiene and no corn. Plus it tastes very good. Its a nice treat that makes me feel normal.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: Thank you for sharing your story—it's a valuable insight for other parents navigating similar challenges.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
