Birth Control Pills?

Ok I've always had major weight gain issues with the pill so I haven't taken it for years. I did try it a couple of years ago after my daughter was born but again had bad luck with it. I always thought it brought my sex drive way down and made me super tiered and moody. Now I'm finding out that Celiac causes most of that, and I have problems with discharge and super heavy painful periods so I thought I may try it again.

My concerns are that the pamphlet says that some of the super rare side effects are problems with your gall bladder and kidney obstruction. The OB assures me that there is no corrolation between Celiac and the Pill, but how do we know for sure. If I'm already at risk for Gall Bladder and Liver problems then can the "super rare" actually be turned into "normal risk" for me?

I guess if I'm off from gluten then the risk should just be normal right? Especially since I should not be causeing damage to my stomach or intestins?

I definitely DO NOT want to get into a debate about the pill because I'm already not a huge supporter, but I'd just like to know what you guys thinks about the risks.

If you are concerned about the side effects of the Pill, there are many new IUD's or Rings that may be available to you. Don't know personally, way way past that.

I think CarlaB knows quite a bit about "natural" methods. You could try asking her.

LOL thanks for the info. Unfortunatley an IUD is not an option for me. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I guess I'll have to do some more research and see what I find out :)!!

I am on the pill and I have been on it basically forever. Not really, but for a very long time. I don't have any problems with it. It's important to make sure the brand you use is gluten-free. Also, not all the brands are the same. Some can make you feel wierder than others. Don't settle for the first one you try if you feel off. Try another brand.

I'm going to basically ditto the previous post. I've been on the pill since I was 14 due to crazy periods. You have to find the one and the dose that works for you. And make sure they are gluten free. I have never had problems with BC, except for once when they switched me to a "new, better" pill that they had come out with which made me really moody and insane.

The only side effects I've seen people have are with people who smoked and got blood clots. I had a friend who's fiance had a blood clot that caused a stroke. She was 31. That is definitely a warning to take seriously. (I have no idea if you smoke or not, just throwing it out there)

I would discuss it with your doctor based on your health issues though. I hope you find a solution :)

I've been glutened by generics. I get the Dr to write that it has to be the name brand, now. Walgreens mail order just could not comprehend that I needed to know what was in the binder. they were beyond clueless into "don't care" ness.

@Jmartes71, I went to Doterra's site and had a look around.  The Doterra TerraZyme supplement really jumped out at me.  Since we, as Celiacs, often have digestive problems, I looked at the ingredients.  The majority of the enzymes in this supplement are made using black mold, Aspergillus!  Other enzymes are made by yeast Saccharomyces!  Considering the fact that Celiac often have permeable intestines (leaky gut syndrome), I would be very hesitant to take a product like this.  Although there may not be live black mold or yeast in the product, the enzymes may still cause an immune system response which would definitely cause inflammation throughout the body.   Skin, eyes, and intestines are all made from the same basic type of cells.  Your skin on the outside and eyes can reflect how irritated the intestines are on the inside.  Our skin, eyes, and intestines all need the same vitamins and nutrients to be healthy:  Vitamin A, Niacin B3 and Tryptophan, Riboflavin B2, Biotin B7, Vitamin C, and Omega Threes.  Remember that the eight B vitamins work together.  Just taking high doses of just one, vitamin like B12, can cause a deficiency in the others.  Taking high doses of B12 can mask a Folate B9 deficiency.  If you take B12, please take a B Complex, too.  Thiamine B1 can be taken in high doses safely without toxicity.  Thiamine is needed by itself to produce energy so every cell in the body can function, but Thiamine also works with the other B vitamins to make life sustaining enzymes and digestive enzymes.  Deficiencies in either Niacin, Vitamin C, or Thiamine can cause digestive problems resulting in Pellagra, Scurvy, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi.   If you change your diet, you will change your intestinal microbiome.  Following the Autoimmune Protocol Diet, a Paleo diet, will starve out SIBO bacteria.  Thiamine keeps bacteria in check so they don't get out of control as in SIBO.  Thiamine also keeps MOLDS and Yeasts from overgrowth.   Menopause symptoms and menstrual irregularities are symptomatic of low Vitamin D.   Doctors are not as knowledgeable about malnutrition as we need them to be.  A nutritionist or dietician would be more helpful.   Take control of your diet and nutrition.  Quit looking for a pill that's going to make you feel better overnight.  The Celiac journey is a marathon, not a sprint.   "Let food be your medicine, and let medicine be your food."

The Lindt (Lindor) dairy-free oat milk truffles are definitely gluten-free, and (last time I checked) so are the white chocolate truffles and the mint chocolate truffles.

I've used magnesium taurinate and magnesium taurate vitamins.  Didn't notice much of a difference when I used them.
