ok, i don't know if this is where you would post it but i was just wondering who on this board were twins. Identical or feternal (how ever you spell it), and also have both of you been diagnosed or just one. I am an identical twin, and both me and my sister have celiac. also does anyone know that if one is diagnosed that most of the time the other one will be too eventually.

I am an identical twin. I have one of the genetic markers for celiac. (HLA B8. It's not mentioned very often.) I do not have celiac, nor does my sister, but my youngest son does. I have no idea if any of my husband's family has any of the markers.

Should my sister or either of her boys start getting symptoms, they'll be tested immediately.

Edited to add: I think that identical twins have about 70% chance of BOTH having celiac. I read it somewhere, but can't remember off hand what the website was. Fraternal twins would be the same odds as any other sibling...not higher, because they don't have the exact same DNA.

I have a fraternal twin. Neither of us have had a biopsi, but I confirmed I have the gene. We had both been getting sicker for years and have had complete turn arounds in health on the gluten-free diet. I have no doubt that we both have active celiac.

Hi,

I have an identical twin sister. She seems not to have a problem with gluten. However, I have yet to be formally tested. I will be sending out to enterolab shortly. If I come back positive for the gene testing, she should probably also get tested.

Maybe I got triggered and she has not. I also have thyroid failure, while she does not.

Hi! My children are fraternal twins. My daughter has celiac disease and type 1 diabetes and my son has neither. We have had him genetically tested for Celiac and he does not have the gene(s) at all. Go figure!

I have fraternal twins - one of them has tested positive for celiac, and the other didn't. But since fraternal twins are no more alike than other siblings (genetically speaking) I wouldn't expect her twin to have more than the 10% first degreee relative chance of having the disease as well.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
